Dr. Aholt joined South St. Louis Dental Group in 2012 as an associate under Dr. Joern and purchased the practice in 2016. Dr. Aholt is a member of the American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society.
Outside of the office, Dr. Aholt enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a passionate sports fanatic, particularly supporting the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dr. Aholt married his wife, Alison, in May of 2013. They have two children, Nolan and Walker, as well as their two fur-babies, Scotch and Whiskey.
Dr. Aholt graduated from St. Louis University High School in 2004 and continued his education at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Aholt was a member of the Xavier baseball team, where he was recognized for his outstanding academics, sportsmanship and integrity. After receiving his Honors Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier with minors in Natural Sciences and Biology , Dr. Aholt was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Aholt is a certified Invisalign provider.
Carol earned her degree in dental hygiene from St. Louis Community College in 2000 and prior to that graduated from the dental assistant program. She grew up as a military brat but settled down in St. Louis in 1989. Her hobbies include travel, and she enjoys spending time with her two children and granddaughter, as well as her extended family as she is now newly engaged.
Hien immigrated to the United States in 1992 from her native Vietnam and became a U.S citizen in 2008. She speaks fluent Vietnamese for our Vietnamese patients. She graduated with a degree in dental hygiene from St. Louis Community College and has been a practicing hygienist for 20 years. 16 of those years have been spent with South St. Louis Dental Group. Hien takes special pride in her dedication to educating our patients in proper oral hygiene and how it affects overall health. Her interests outside the office include cooking, participating in church activities, swimming, yoga and fitness. Like so many people from St. Louis, Hien is a fan of the Blues and Cardinals.
Ginny graduated from Forest Park Community College as a certified dental assistant in 1980. She has been a receptionist for South St. Louis Dental Group since 1997. Ginny is married and has two grown sons. Her hobbies include reading, cooking and traveling.
Felicia graduated from Forest Park Community College as a Certified Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions. She has worked as a dental assistant for 12 years at our office. She has been blessed with two great children(one boy and one girl) that are now teenagers. Outside of work Felicia enjoys roller skating, bowling, shopping, and family time. You will see her around the office helping her team members provide optimum dental care.
Sally was a certified dental assistant for seven years before graduating from St. Louis Community College Dental Hygiene Program. She has been a dental hygienist for 20 years - entirely at South St. Louis Dental Group. Born and raised in St. Louis, she currently resides in Oakville with her husband, four teenage children (1 boy, 3 girls), and dog Jessie. Country music is her favorite but will listen to mostly anything while singing the wrong lyrics. Sally will save a turtle crossing the street and has a soft spot for cuddly animals of all kinds. Her top priority is any vacation outdoors; while close runner-ups are family time, and peace and quiet. As a dental hygienist, Sally is continuously expanding her dental education. Through comprehensive care, Sally is committed to helping patients achieve optimal oral and systemic health.
JoAnn is a 1976 graduate of Rosati-Kain High School. She received her certificate in dental assisting from St. Louis Community College in 1980 and worked in our practice until 1982 when she began a family. JoAnn returned many years later in 1999 as our bookkeeper. She is now an integral part of the front office staff and has been our receptionist for the last eleven years. She is married and has three daughters. In her free time she enjoys reading, camping and traveling the United
Rhea is a life long St. Louis resident. After attending high school at Clayton, she graduated from the Midwest Institute for dental assisting in 1981. She has worked with us at South St. Louis Dental Group since 1997, treating our patients like family. In her spare time, she is busy with her 21 nieces and nephews.
Robin is a lifelong St. Louis resident who has provided care for South St. Louis Dental Group since 1995. A Bishop DuBourg High School, Fontbonne, and St. Louis Community College graduate she enjoys helping you achieve and maintain good oral and general health. As a Type 1 Diabetic she is a good resource for all of our diabetic patients. She, her husband Jay and two adult daughters like the outdoors, cooking, traveling and cheering on the Cardinals and Blues.
Ruth graduated from the dental hygiene program at St. Louis Community College in 1976. Upon graduation she received the Missouri Dental Hygienists Association Outstanding Dental Hygiene Graduate award for Excellence in Clinical Performance, Patient Control and Professionalism. She has spent twelve of her thirty-five years as a hygienist at South St. Louis Dental Group. Her free time is spent largely enjoying time with her family. She is married and has been blessed with six children and two grandchildren.
Dawn is a 1993 graduate of Lindbergh High school. In 2000, Dawn received her Dental Hygiene degree from Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Dawn enjoys making connections with patients to help ease their dental anxiety and provide education to help patients keep their smile healthy for life. In her time away from the office, she enjoys outdoor adventures and traveling with her husband and adult children.
Kaitlyn graduated from Dental Hygiene school in 2011 from Lewis and Clark Community College and began working with us in 2014. What Kaitlyn loves most about her job is helping patients improve their oral hygiene and understand the link between their oral health and overall health. Kaitlyn is very compassionate about the oral health of the patients that she cares for. Kaitlyn is originally from Belleville, IL and now resides in St. Louis. In her free time she loves spending time with her husband and two daughters, playing around with the family dog, training for half marathons and reading

South St Louis dental group is the best place to be when it comes to dental work. I am welcomed and greeted by others and two staff shey and rea. Everyone there is very nice and understanding and friendly no matter what. And it is a pleasant place to be during my visits

Warmth is not usually the term that comes to mind when describing a dental office, but that is the perfect description for the South STL Dental Group. From the minute I walked in, I felt welcome by the friendly receptionist. Dr. Joern and his team was very personable and were very patient with all of my questions. So happy I changed dentists!

I have had issues with this office twice. First, during a regular cleaning, my actual dentist recommended I get surgery for TMJ Disorder, we set up a consultation. I came back a few weeks later for that consultation to get rid of my locking jaw -- my doctor was out, so a different doctor did my consultation. The result of the consultation was this other doctor referring me to get my bottom wisdom teeth pulled. I got my teeth pulled, and months later still having the locking jaw. I saw my dentist again a few month later, he said wisdom teeth extraction would not have fixed my locking jaw and I should've never been referred for that (so I paid for an unnecessary procedure). I tried to see if there was anything that could be done since I paid for an unnecessary procedure, on account of the dentist's recommendation, and still need the TMJ surgery. The office staff were no help in coming to an agreement for an issue caused by the dentists. Recently, I set up a consultation for a procedure. The staff called me multiple times to check my insurance before my appointment. I returned the call and gave my insurance. The next day I came in for my consultation which includes an x-ray, and the consultation ended in me being referred to an oral surgeon (again). I called my insurance immediately after I left the office to see if the oral surgeon was in-network, only to find out that my insurance ended a week prior (I thought it would carry until the end of the month). I called back and asked the receptionist if they check patients insurance, and was told "yes, we check insurance to see if you're active". As soon as I let her know the issue, I was given the run around and no one helped me. I spoke with Molly today who said they check insurance as "a courtesy" but will proceed whether you are insured or not, because the patient should know whether they are covered -- she was extremely condescending, and could not give me an answer as to how to file an official dispute. I understand completely how insurance and billing works. If at any point before I was seen, if they would have told me that the system showed that my insurance was inactive, I would not have proceeded with the consultation. This is the second time having to assume responsibility of a bill due to lack of communication from this office's staff, and they see no issue or fault in either of my situations.

Never go here to get braces. They don't know what they're doing. I've had my braces from here for over a year and they never did anything for my overbite.

I have been a patient of SSLDG for 12+ years and have always had top notch service. I am very happy with the new location and it has not changed the quality of service they provide, only to say that it maybe improved! The doctors and staff are always sweet and patient with my very high-energy and inquisitive children, who have all three been patients since they were toddlers. This office was doing COVID19 type cleaning and sanitizing long before COVID19 was a thing. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a family dentist.

Never go here to get braces. They don't know what they're doing. I've had my braces from here for over a year and they never did anything for my overbite.

Rhea, Felicia, Ginny...everyone is so very kind and capable. Hien is literally my favorite, the worst part about her being my hygienist is the whole time I'm getting my teeth cleaned, I want to keep chatting. I haven't had dental coverage or care since I was a child, and Dr. Joern and his staff have been the best about treating me quickly and letting me know what I can do to continue to improve my oral health.
