Treatment is not usually started at age 8 unless severe problems exist which will affect the way the teeth or jaws grow. Such problems include crossbites, underbites, impacted teeth, and habits such as thumb sucking. In such cases of severe problems, treating them early can help avoid future problems. One other reason we may start treatment early is to help a childs self-esteem if the crookedness of the teeth is a cause of psychological stress.
When children and teens are ready to begin, we have a wide variety of fun treatment options for them. We have eliminated the use of un-esthetic appliances like headgear. The majority of appliances we use to correct your teeth are much more comfortable, and can be customized to your preferences!
For those adults who wish they could straighten their teeth but dont want to wear any visible braces, we have several esthetic options available. We offer invisible aligners,Invisalign, clear or tooth colored braces, and clear retainers.

Staff are absolutley AMAZING! From the care in planning and the in-between support, truly is 5star! They always go above and beyond! I have an 1hr commute to have my kiddos seen by them and wouldn't change to anyone else!!!

Dr. Carter and the staff are amazing. I can't say enough good things about everyone and his practice. Nicest people ever. Did phenomenal work on my train wreck teeth. I recommend him to everyone .

The staff and doctor are all great. What really shows what a good place this is is the fact that after years of monitoring my son, Dr. Carter said he didn't think there is a need for braces. So honest, so kind. I definitely recommend them!

My 15 year old son just had his first consultation for braces and things went so great! The office staff, dental assistants and dentist are all over the top nice, helpful, and paitently explained everything we had questions about. I also love that they offer in-house financing and have so many flexible payment options. Great place.

I have had an excellent experience with South Salem Orthodontics and Dr. Bart Carter. They have taken excellent care of my two daughters and they done a wonderful job. The team goes out of their way to make the experience positive for adults but kids especially. My daughter said she loved being there! Their approach is top notch. They are patient with even the most sensitive of kids and walked my daughter through every aspect of her upcoming treatment to help with her concerns. The staff are always so kind and friendly.
