Concern: Negligence and lack of good pt care. On July 14, 2022 at 1600 I had an appointment with Dr. Misak Sardis Shnorhavorian after he diagnosed me with four Cavities. Upon my arrival I was greeted and seated by someone who identified themselves as the dental hygienist. I was numbed with Novocaine bilaterally and immediately formed swelling on the left side of my mouth The hygienist went to get Dr. Shnorhavorian who looked at me and stated, "Oh are you not feeling good today? Sometimes anesthesia can have that effect if you aren't feeling well." As I responded, " I am feeling fine." He went on to say, "you must be having an allergic reaction to the Novocaine." As a Registered Nurse I knew this was NOT the case because the swelling was unilateral and not bilateral, which I told Dr. Shnorhavorian. He then stated, "Well it looks like a hematoma ... super rare...it will go away within 24 hours don't worry." Immediately, I should have seen these responses, lack of empathy, and the lack of skill when injecting Novocaine as red flags... However, as a patient you trust your practitioners to do no harm. You trust them to acknowledge mistakes, and assist a patient when complications arise. This was not the case at South Pasadena Dental Group. As I left the office my face was completely swollen. The next day came around and the swelling was worse. My cheek was tender and I had pain to the touch.I reached out to Dr. Shnorhavorian and his text message stated, " Hello. I was informed that you're still swollen. Best thing to do at this stage is go to urgent care for further evaluation. You can also apply ice to the area if it is worsening. Avoid heat" I was shocked at that response. What would an urgent care do? What am I supposed to tell them? This was clearly a dental matter that required evaluation. After much back and forth with the office they got me in touch with Dr. Tsabel. At that point I no longer wished to speak with or deal with Dr. Shnorhavorian. His lack of empathy to my concern was disgusting. Dr. Tsabel assured me the swelling would go away within a week.. that "time was the cure". After 7 days I was still swollen and walking around with a temporary facial disfigurement. I reached out to Dr. Tsabel and requested 1. My $147 out of pocket to be returned 2. To be refunded the $562 my insurance was charged 3. The office to cover any expenses related to care I would need for this hematoma. I NEVER heard back. In my opinion, these requests are not unreasonable. I'm not asking for anything other than my money back and the office to cover any bills I incurred for something that was their fault. On July 21st I was desperate for an evaluation. I sought out help from a Periodontist who did state time would help rid of the hematoma BUT to facilitate healing they offered Laser Bio Stimulation 3 consecutive days and sent me home w a four day course of Arnica pills to take morning, afternoon, and evening. My pain and swelling was significantly better. I was told I was way beyond applying ice (as Dr Tsabel had stated) and I should apply moist heat every 3-4 hours. Why couldnt South Pasadena Dental Group offer this care??? The office got back to me after i wrote a formal email complaint and denied my request stating they think "quality" treatment was provided. They were willing to refund my out of pocket cost as a "token of consideration". In addition they stated a hematoma "is not uncommon" however every dental office I reached out to for evaluation said they have never heard of such a thing happening for dental fillings. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. WAY BETTER DENTAL OFFICES EXIST IN SOUTH PASADENA AND IN PASADENA. The only + thing I have to say is Jessica from reception was super sweet and did always help to try and connect my calls in the back and forth dealings w the office.

they will literally harass you if you so much as inquire about services. i didn't have an appointment, just inquired about something. suddenly i was getting 4-5 calls per day from them and texts too, including one text at 5 am, even after i said i'm not interested anymore. i had to block both numbers they were using to reach me. how is this an effective business method?

Very interesting and comfortable location for a Dentist office. Very friendly staff and great financial presentation on the work I needed for my teeth. My dentist Michael Shnorhavorian did a great job evaluating and working on my dental needs. This is the 2nd time in a few years that he has worked on my teeth, I travel to different area's for my business and I've been to many other locations for my dental work, he is by far the best and the most honest dentist and does a precise job. I would definitely recommend the office to anyone that needs work done on their teeth, you won't be dissapointed and the price is on point!

Still feel the pain over a year later. Don't let them drill in your mouth, they really messed up a filling. And when I went back to get it fixed, there was a different dentist and he drilled straight into a nerve. Every time I bite down I think about this place.

DO NOT go here if you value your time and self-respect. I can go and on but in a succinct way, if you care about yourself and your time, save yourself and DO NOT go here. 1) Every appointment comes with at least 40 minutes of waiting time. 2) Every appointment goes for >2 hours for they are extremely short staffed. 3) Their dental assistants are unskilled and take a lot of time. 4) Their dental assistants aren't the best behaved either. They are rude, don't value your space, and are arrogant. 5) Their front office people do not listen well about 'WHY' you need an appointment and then gave me an appointment despite the dentist who treated me being on vacation. After a wait-time of 40 minutes, I got to know I couldn't be treated because the doctor isn't there and when I complained, their assistant said, "Hey! you are not the only one who was waiting" No apology for the mistakes at their end. In fact, he said, "I don't deal with who takes the calls. Go and talk at the front office". It was humiliating. The whole clinic is crashing, it seems. The doctors, the assistants, and the front office ppl...everyone wants to leave the job it seems. They have an odd vibe there. 6) Worst of all, the doctor who did RCT on my tooth did not clean the infection completely so it needs a re-treatment now after spending all my insurance money on it once, they easily washed off their hands and said, "This happens". 7) It seems the whole health industry is about business BUT the extent to which these ppl are ALL about business with NO kindness, NO empathy, and NO respect towards the customers/patients is APPALLING. Save yourself from them! Value yourself. You definitely deserve MUCH better than South Pas Dental!!!! ******* Update I had an appointment for my permanent crown to be fixed today and I was mildly amused by their attention. 1) The dental assistant -- Fernanda, RDA was caring, concerned about my pain, and took care. I hope she definitely gets to dentistry. 2) The other dental assistant was apologetic and realized it was the confusion in my last session that made him a lil irritated. 3) The doctor said they will use the money (I and my insurance) paid for the RCT that got reinfected towards the retreatment which is a very responsible, kind, and generous gesture. 4) Tiffany was great and I got to meet her for the first time and she helped me understand the treatment n payment plan for the treatment. This was my best dental appointment with South Pas Dental. I heartfully appreciate the care they put today.

Get a second opinion. The first time I went to South Pasadena Dental they told me I had 4 cavities, which was odd because I only had one cavity my whole life until my mid 30's. I really wish I had gotten a 2nd opinion then, but I trusted them and had the work done. Now, 3 years later during my last cleaning, they informed me that all 4 of those fillings are cracked and it must be because I grind my teeth. Which I don't, never have. Strange, I never really had cavities before visiting them, and now their work needs to be replaced for another $1100. Fillings should have a much longer lifespan than that, right? Feels like they're taking me for a ride. I'm going elsewhere to have someone investigate their craftsmanship. I only wish I had not let them drill into my teeth to begin with :/ One redeeming quality is that their dental hygienists do a great job. They are gentle and kind, very professional, and do nice cleanings. Have your teeth cleaned, but once that dentist walks in beware of the amount of upcharging and scare tactics they'll try to sell you on to make a buck (or a few thousand, rather!) I won't be returning.

Even though I hate going to the dentist in general, I do enjoy the staff very much. They make you feel welcome and take care of you like you are their number one concern.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled here after being toyed around with by other dentists. They were able to get me in for surgery next day after my consultation and were very informative and warm. All of my questions were answered, we were given the Dr's personal cell phone number and I have already received courtesy check in calls from the office. Very pleased to say the least!

Very friendly. Good doctors who know their stuff. Give you honest opinions and do their jobs well. Needed an emergency root canal a few years ago. South Pasadena dental took me that day, fixed me up and did so with surprisingly little discomfort. Been going there ever since. Highly recommend.

My whole experience there was horrific. The long and short of it is they told me I had 6 cavities (bad ones that would require caps on each affected tooth). Luckily, I had such a terrible experience with them, changing my appt. time and misquoting the price for teeth whitening, that I choose to go elsewhere to fix the cavity situation. Turns out the other dentist was seriously sick to his stomach when he saw my x-rays and the list South Pasadena Dental had given me in regards to my cavities. The other dentist said I have 2 baby cavities that don't currently require fillings at all. It pains me to know that his practice is drilling into people's teeth and charging them a fortune for work they don't need. Who knows how many people this practice has scammed. South Pasadena Dental should be ashamed of themselves.
