As an orthodontic specialist, I am dedicated to providing the highest quality of care in a professional and welcomingenvironment.I am grateful to be a part of a profession that allows me to develop life-longfriendships with mypatients and their families.I find great fulfillment in knowing that Im making a difference by helping people feel better about their appearance and themselves through orthodontic treatment. Orthodontics has always been a part of my life. My father was attending schoolto become an orthodontist when I was born. From a young age, I came to understand how enjoyable being an orthodontist could be, and Im grateful to have the opportunity to continue in my fathers legacy.
Following dental school, I continued my educationto specialize in the field of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. I was one of four residents selected to attend the University of Tennessees 3-year specialty program. There I received my certificate of specialty in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics as well as a masters degree in dental science. While attending school, my research on dental age estimation techniqueswas published in the International Journal of Forensic Science and Pathology.
Following my orthodontic training, I achieved board certification through theAmerican Board of Orthodontics. A board-certified orthodontist is an orthodontist who has demonstrated the judgement, knowledge, and skills required to provide the highest level of patient care by successfully completing an oral examination and written examination. Achieving board certification is the last step in a long and intensive educational experience to ultimately provide excellent patient care. Only 30 percent of orthodontists have successfully completed the board certification process.
I regularly attend national and local meetings hosted by the American Association of Orthodontists and other regional constituents and associations. This allows meto stay up to date on the constantly changing and advancing field of orthodontics andmake sure my patients are receiving the best available treatment.
Outside the Office My wife, Lyndsey, and I are the proud parents of four sweet boys, James, Ryan, Preston, and Charlie and our adorable daughter, Beth. They are my lifes greatest joy.When Im not working as a smile engineer or spending time with family, I enjoy playing sports with friends (golf, softball, soccer, racquetball all sports, really!). I also love the outdoors and camping.

Each year I complete many hours of continuing education. By learning breakthrough techniques and staying current on new technology, I am able to deliver the best results for my patients. Ive received hands-on training in Invisalign, high-tech super-elastic metals, and numerous other orthodontic options.
Personal Life I was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from Skyline High School. Following graduation, I served a 2-year church mission to South Koreabefore returning to the U.S. and pursuing my degrees.
I now live in Sandy with my wife, Heidi Ryan. Were the proud parents of four children: three sons and a daughter. Our oldest son, Tony Jr., followed in my footsteps and is now an orthodontist. Our two younger sons, Jeff and David, elected to pursue degrees in medicine. Our daughterSarah currently attends BYU.
Im passionate about healthy smiles and the overall health and happiness of your child. Dental visits can be stressful for both the child and parent. My goal is to have every child excited to come to the dentist.The reason I entered my profession is because of my love and affinity for children. My happiest moments are when a child visits me for the first time, having been to multiple unsuccessful dental visits, and having the child leave comfortable and proud of themselves for what theyve accomplished with my patience and guidance.
Children make me happy and keep me young. I cant imagine myself in any other profession. Children amaze me every day. Theyre so smart, impressionable, courageous, and capable. I love working in a profession where I get to influence a childfor the better by improving and maintaining a healthy, beautiful smile.
Continuing education is very important to me because I want to offer the best and safest care to your child. We live in an ever-changing world where new innovations are created each day. By keeping up with the latest technologies, I can help you make the best decision for your son or daughter.
I regularly attend national and regional pediatric dental meetings andcontinuing education seminars, and I subscribe to many pediatric dental journals and magazines to stay uptodate on the most evidence-based treatments available. Things we believe impossible today could be the standard of care tomorrow.
Outside the Office I was born in Bountiful, Utah, but spent most of my young life in Ashland, Ohio. At the age of 13, I moved back to Utah and attended Uintah High School in Vernal. It was there where I grew to love music and musical theater, and I acted in such roles as The Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Reuben in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Frankie in Forever Plaid. Recently I have been participating in Herriman Art Council shows, such as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid and Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Its this love of music that results in frequent outbursts of Let it Go, The Wheels on the Bus, and The Buzz Lightyear Song to help ease childrens dental anxiety.
I have three beautiful girls in my life: my beautiful wife Emily, our oldest daughter Abigail and our youngest daughter Millie. I also have a son named Beckham, who is our miracle child. My wife loves to camp, hike, sleep in and sew. Abigail loves to draw, play games, read books, and sing with her dad. Millie loves to sing and jump on the bed, and Beckham likes to sleep during the day and play at night. Also, I am a twin, and my brother is an optometrist in Monument, Colorado.
When Im not fixing teeth, Im likely playing with my kids, attending play practice, reading a fantasy book (Brandon Sanderson is my favorite), riding my bike or playing a board game. I also enjoy watching Pixar and DreamWorks movies.

Dr. Bart was recommended highly from a lot of people in my area . Honest I was hesitant such a good dentist could be just down the street ! I went to two other consultations and got very mixed signals! With my daughter needing a little more than the average work. Dr. Bart was clear in explaining the procedure and kind enough to ask me multiple times how I felt . Not to mention a pre and post opp Consultation. Price more than fair for quality work . Facility and staff classy and clean. Defiantly set the standard for how a pediatric dentist should be.

Dr. Bart and his staff really are incredible! They worked magic with kids. My daughter was extremely nervous and scared working with another dentist. So we were referred to South Hills. They took excellent care of her and knew exactly how to to handle her worries! It was a complete turnaround and she was totally comfortable and at ease after that. My kids get so excited to see the dentist - we've been with South Hills for years ever since!

Dr. Bart is amazing. We have been through a couple of pediatric dentists and will always be patients of Dr. Barts now. He cares about his patients! All of my kiddos have had some dental anxiety but after going to see Dr. Bart, they look forward to going into his office. After my 7 year old had some recent dental work that was painful, he texted to check in on her on a Saturday. Very impressed. Grateful to have him as our dentist!

I took my 9 yr old to see Dr. Skanchy for an orthodontics evaluation. She had an extra tooth bud that was causing some problems with her baby teeth not coming out and causing the permanent teeth growing in grow crooked. He was amazing as well as his staff. They were all extremely polite, on time, and Dr Skanchy had a great bedside manner. He was super thorough with the entire process. Even though she doesn't need braces right now we will be back in the future for them. He referred us to Dr Sloan next door to have the extra tooth bud extracted. Dr Sloan and his staff were equally amazing. They were fabulous with my daughter through the entire procedure and made sure she was as comfortable as she could possibly be. I was very impressed with both offices and would highly recommend them to anyone needing pediatric dentistry or orthodontics.

I have loved this office and dentist since the moment I first brought my kids here last year. Dr. Bart came in on a WEEKEND night to help with my sons dental emergency and was so so kind. They go out of their way to make it the best experience possible. I couldn't ask for a better place to take my kids.

I took my 2 and 1/2 year old son in today and Dr. Jacobsen was absolutely fantastic! My son was not in the best mood when we got there and Dr. Jacobsen took it really slow introducing him to the instruments, his light, even his gloves. He gave him time to get comfortable and I was shocked that my son let him clean his teeth and do X-rays! After a terrible experience with a different pediatric dentist, this was a complete 180. Couldn't be happier and was VERY impressed!

Took my son here twice and he loved it! His dentist was so great with him and made us both feel comfortable. There care about their patients and also made sure to ask me if I had any concerns. Love that they have TV's on the walls. Definitely helped keep my son distracted during his visits.

My almost 2 year old saw Dr Jacobsen today and I was amazed at how great our experience was! The staff was so friendly and Dr Jacobsen was amazing! My 2 year old actually enjoyed the dentist! And was so excited to show everyone his new toys and tooth brush! Actually excited to go back in 6 months.

This was the first time my 4-year-old had fillings done for cavities. I was more than impressed with the amount of time taken by both Dr Bart and his staff to explain things on a kids level to my daughter. Dr Bart was very competent and efficient while still being patient and working with my daughter's concerns. He is also very personable. I would highly recommend him!
