No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to become a board certified orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

Great experience with Dr. Sosebee and the whole staff at Sosebee and Britt. It was great to see one doctor every time for consistent care. Whenever we needed anything, they staff was quick to respond. The flexibility offered with 2 office locations was very helpful. And of course the results of a beautiful smile top it all off. Highly recommend Sosebee and Britt for all ortho needs!

We absolutely love Dr. Sosebee and the smile he gave my daughter. While we did have some issues with a member of the front office staff and check in procedures during the beginning of the covid outbreak, we swapped offices and had nothing but a phenomenal experience from there on out. The staff at Gainesville is top notch and I would recommend them to anyone. They were always so nice and helpful and answered all of our questions, and Lord knows we had a lot. They were patient when my daughter went from going through her Invisalign every 4-5 days because she was breaking them in the beginning to her forgetting to change them for two to three weeks at a time in the end. They talked her through every process along the way, and we couldn't be happier with the results.

Just completed my second child's braces. First one had traditional braces and second one had Invisalign for the same price. Dr. Sosebee and staff are always so pleasant and accommodating with scheduling. No more braces... but have had a great experience. And great results! Also I know if anything comes up we will easily go back! Totally recommend them !!!!

Sosebee & Britt Orthodontics is a pleasant place. The location feels clean and professional while everyone seem kind. Unlike some other places, there is no awkward small talk that is forced on you unless you want to start a conversation which is very convenient when there are pair of hands and dental equipment stuffed in your mouth. Mr.Sosebee and his team are all kind and caring, checking on you with energy and try their best to mitigate discomfort. You will be out quick and easy with little to no complications. And of course, the dental work works and my teeth are now straight and beautiful. 10/10 (you also get a free t-shirt :D)

My 11 yr old son is a current patient of Dr. Britt's. His office is always great about being on time. We've had great visits every time. But today was exceptional. Hannah & Elizabeth went out of their way to make my son feel comfortable. He has some sensory issues & was uncomfortable getting his braces tightened. Hannah was extremely patient with him. She gave him time to breath and relax. Elizabeth jumped in offering a fidget toy to distract him from being uncomfortable. It makes things easier when people go above and beyond. I truly appreciate it. My son has only had his braces on since March but says " braces have changed my life" his smile has changed so much! We are loving the progress.

Dr. Sosebee was my orthodontist when I was 15 (22 years ago) and has now completed both of my children's Ortho care. I cannot recommend a better provider! The staff are amazing and always kind. Dr Sosebee has always been extremely tentative, caring and has always wanted the best for his patients and we could not be more happy with the level of care we have received. Very thankful!
