Sonoran Desert Dentistry - General dentist in Scottsdale, AZ

My family moved to Arizona in 2003 from a town of only 1,000 people in North Dakota. I graduated high school in Mesa, and then attended Arizona State University (go Devils!). I must have forgotten how cold the midwest is, because I returned to the land of snow and mosquitoes to attend dental school at the University of Minnesota.

After school, I commissioned in the Air Force, and finished top of my class from a rigorous post-graduate Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency. I served over 5 years as a dentist in the Air Force, and had the privilege of living in Florida, South Korea, and Germany.

I developed a love of traveling and exploration, and a passion for discovering new cultures. Besides traveling, I love ice cream, especially cookies and cream. Luckily, I also enjoy spending time in the gym, and hiking.

I graduated with a double major in Biology and Psychology from the University of California, Davis. I then pursued my childhood passion of becoming a dentist. I graduated with honors from Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Due to my husbands training in pediatric cardiology and electrophysiology, I then had the opportunity to practice dentistry in Maryland, Arkansas,Tennessee, and Virginia! I moved here to beautiful Arizona along with my family when my husband joined Cardon Childrens Medical Center.

I take pride in providing my patients with the highest quality dentistry in the most compassionate and gentle way possible. When Im not at work, you will find me hiking, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. I am absolutely excited to be part of the Sonoran Desert Dentistry and look forward to meeting you!

Dr. Herro was born and raised in Arizona. Upon graduating from Arizona State University with dual bachelor degrees in Human and Family Relations and Chemistry, she attended Midwestern University, College of Dental Medicine where she graduated with honors in 2012. Since then, the Valley of the Sun has been her exclusive home for practicing dentistry. Due to the dynamics of the field, growth through learning new technology continues to be paramount to her dedication in providing excellence in care and treatment. It is through integrity and compassion that she cares for her patients and always acts in their best interest.

Dr. Herro proudly sits on the board for the Central Arizona Dental Society (CADS), a constituent of the Arizona Dental Association (AzDA), as Vice President. She also donates her time, knowledge and expertise through educating medical students at the University of Arizonas College of Medicine on oral disease prevention, health and wellness.

When she is not in the office, you can find her on some of the local hiking trails because health and fitness are an integral part of her life and a source of discipline she lives by. However, as she loves a good balance, you may also find her winding down at one of Arizonas spectacular Northern wineries (but maybe shes a bit partial being an AZ native).

Whether your goal is to eliminate pain, straighten your teeth or simply have a better, brighter smile, Dr. Herro would love the chance to help you achieve your goals and increase your quality of life.

A great hygienist, with a real ability to connect and understand people, is how Dr. Brad describes Dental Hygienist Anna. My patients rave about Anna and how comfortable and confident they feel when they are in her chair said Dr. Brad. A graduate of Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, Anna was attracted to dentistry for the opportunity to truly help people and create beautiful, healthy smiles. She was attracted to Sonoran Desert Dentistry for the opportunity to accomplish both of those and work with a team that is committed to advancing their skills and knowledge with dentistry and technology. I joined this great team in 2011 and feel blessed to call this wonderful group I work with my friends. When Im not at work, which, by the way, I love, I enjoy baking, traveling and hiking. My grandmother, aunties and uncles live in Anacortes, Washington, my best friend lives in Oahu, Hawaii, and my family is in Eugene, so these are the places I enjoy traveling to the most. Last but not least, I adore spending time with my cat Lucy!

Originally from Michigan, I moved here to Arizona 12 years ago with my family. I grew up in a military home which taught me quality values and efficient morals. Since a young age, I knew to give my best in everything I did. Early January last year, I made the decision to join the United States Air Force to follow the steps of service my father did. In doing so, I specialized my career field in Dentistry and fell in love with it.

I completed my training and was certified as a dental assistant in August 2021. Upon returning home, I started working at a pediatric office to gain experience in this beautiful career field and to grow in not only my abilities but also in my knowledge to properly and efficiently provide for my patients. I quickly excelled and am now happy to be a part of the Sonoran Desert Dentistry team.

Ronda considers herself a native of Arizona who thrives to place a smile on everyone 's face. She has been in dentistry for over 14 years and loves dentistry. The team at Sonoran Desert Dentistry believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.

It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons' risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. We understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

Understanding the importance of these regular dental exams, the staff at Sonoran Desert Dentistry work to make each patient extremely comfortable. This includes being welcoming and kind while performing dental treatments in a way that is painless and relaxing. Patients visit our dentist office because they trust us to do just that take care of their teeth and gums, gently. The majority of our patients are local and come from the greater Scottsdale area, we also see patients that are looking for gentle dental care.

Seniors, on the other hand, often struggle with gum disease and oral infections. As people age, their teeth can become weaker and infected more easily. Bone loss is incredibly common with seniors and by conducting regular dental exams, the team at Sonoran Desert Dentistry can help seniors to have strong teeth and reduce the risk of them falling out. Since over seventy percent of U.S. adults suffer from tooth loss, preventative care is important.

A. Primary, or 'baby,' teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.

A. First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

A. Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

A. Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your child's primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.

A. Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

A. There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

Filling cavities is one of many services that a family dentist provides. Cavities are holes in teeth that occur due to tooth decay. However, if the decay is caught early, it may be possible to reverse it before a cavity forms. Understanding how and why tooth decay happens may make it easier to learn how

Having a family dentist provides you with several important advantages. The most important from a holistic standpoint is the fact that families near Scottsdale who visit a family dentist regularly have a much better level of oral health and healthier teeth overall. When you make it a habit as a family to visit your family

While many parents remind their children and ensure that they brush their teeth on a regular basis, children need professional dental care at a dentist. Along with specialized care toward children, there are also other steps parents can take to ensure their children have healthy teeth. As a family dentist, we suggest taking the following

Help children learn proper dental hygiene habits at a young age and receive a dental checkup in one visit. As a family dentist, we understand how difficult it can be to juggle multiple dental checkups for your kids, school, work and getting dinner on the table. Fortunately, we can schedule multiple checkups back to back for

As an Invisalign dentist, our team straightens teeth using a series of aligners. First, an impression of your teeth is taken so that a series of aligners can be created in a dental lab. The aligners themselves are made out of a thermoplastic material that is strong and at the same time flexible in order to be comfortable when worn for long periods of time. The material is virtually invisible.

The aligners should be worn for 22 hours a day and every two weeks; they need to be switched out with the next one in the series. Over a period of months, the aligners will slowly move teeth into place, making one minor adjustment at a time that is targeted to specific teeth. This helps your teeth to be comfortable as they are moved into position at a manageable pace. Once you are done wearing your aligners, your teeth should be perfectly straight.

Some patients need to wear attachments or ridges in order to ensure that their teeth move into place perfectly. An attachment is a clear bump that is made of an enamel colored composite and secured to the teeth. Bumps on your aligners will grip them in order to hold the aligner in place. Ridges work in a similar way only an indent is created instead of a raised bump. This can be necessary for more complicated cases to ensure that a particular tooth, or several teeth, move into place like they should.

Unlike wearing traditional braces, Invisalign will not make a major impact on your quality of life. Since the aligners are clear, it will not impact your appearance. Additionally, since they only need to be worn for 22 hours a day, they will not interfere with eating. This is a huge advantage because you can eat your favorite plate of ribs, go out for a romantic date, eat a caramel apple without worrying about something becoming stuck in your teeth or a wire being pulled out of place. This time also allows you to take the aligner out when having an important conversation or making a presentation at work. Overall, this is a convenient way to straighten your teeth and provides the maximum level of flexibility.

Some people are concerned about whether or not wearing an aligner will impact their speech. Most of our Scottsdale patients tell us that they have to get used to wearing aligners after the first couple of days. Sometimes, patients have a slight lisp which goes away once they become used to speaking while wearing them. This is standard with any orthodontic procedure but fortunately; most people can speak normally within a couple of days.

You have probably heard a lot about Invisalign treatment to straighten teeth. Crooked teeth and other alignment issues can hinder your smile and make you unhappy with your appearance. With clear aligners, you can solve these concerns with faster treatment than with braces. If you are interested in this cosmetic dentistry solution, you should schedule

Wondering why so many dental patients are choosing Invisalign to straighten their teeth? Because they are learning about the many benefits that Invisalign braces can offer. Most adults who want straighter teeth and did not wear braces during their teenage years will simply choose to live with their crooked teeth. Now that they are an

An Invisalign dentist can help you to fix a variety of teeth alignment issues. Clear aligners like Invisalign work just like traditional braces. They push the wearer's teeth into a better position by applying a constant force on them. However, unlike traditional metal braces, it is very hard to tell when someone is wearing a
