Dr. Nikhilesh Rao Gorukanti or Dr. Nick, as he is affectionately known to his colleagues, grew up in the other town of Somerville, which is located in New Jersey. He pursued dentistry due to his love of the specialty and his desire to make a difference in patients lives. Dr. Nick firmly believes that patients oral health is a vital part of their overall health. He strives to use his science and artistic background to improve his patients oral health and to overcome cosmetic dental challenges.
He earned his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Science at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and graduated with magna cum laude. He then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. While at TUSDM, he not only excelled at treating his patients, but also participated as a clinical tutor to help his underclassmen with both clinical and lab work. Before opening Somerville Family Dental, Dr. Nick worked as an associate in multiple offices in Boston.
Somerville Family Dental (SFD) is a state of the art digital dental practice that provides comprehensive dental care for adults and children. SFD was designed by Dr. Nick himself from scratch because he believes that a dental visit should be stress-free and pleasant as possible while providing high quality dental care. We are equipped with TVs and massage chairs to ensure that patients are very relaxed and comfortable. We are located on 365 Somerville Ave. Somerville, MA right next to the famous Neighborhood restaurant. We are currently accepting new patients, and we look forward to providing you with the best smile in Somerville!

Overall they got the job done, and the other staff were incredibly friendly and kind and the place itself was very nice. That said Dr. Nick (sp?) said some weirdly misogynistic things while he was working on my dental care. He will probably think that I am being "too sensitive" (another pearl of wisdom he gave me) but referring to women who practice as "she-dentists" is weird and cringey. If this is a part of your sense of humor, keep it for people who know you better and not strangers you are performing a service for.

This is probably the best dental office I have ever been to! This is the first dental office where I have felt listened to and where my needs were validated. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Joanne is so sweet and personable. She has made the dental experience so positive for my 3-year old son and he is excited to go to the dentist! She even let him "help" her clean my teeth and he was so excited that he kept talking about it for the next few days. I definitely recommend this dental office!

Amazing office!! I've been coming here for the past four years, and always have had the best experiences. They play music/can put tv on while you are in the chair, let you text them to schedule appts, and overall are so kind. Possibly the gentlest clean of my life (while still feeling completely clean!)

**UPDATE: After Dr. Nik saw my review of his office, he went to a family member to tell them about to review, hoping it'll convince me to remove it which gave me a worse impression of him. Dr. Nik is unprofessional and I would not recommend him. Their are way to many dentist around the area that provide excellent care! This place is extremely unprofessional and Dr. Nick is extremely rude to his employees. He tells his employees to not make conversations with patient to avoid small talk. I've never met someone like him, in a bad way.

I was a patient of Dr. Nik for the last 5 years. Both he and all the hygienists are nice and friendly! It was a great experience as my first dentist in Somerville. I've had great treatment, from regular cleaning to custom grind guards, emergency fixes of a permanent retainer or referrals for gum surgery. They recently moved to a new location, and the updated office is quite nice! I'm sad to leave Somerville and the whole team at Somerville Family Dental!

Somerville Family Dental is the best dentist's office I've ever found. Dr. Gorukanti did a thorough intake examination and--unlike other dentists--he shared the results with me. I got to see photographs of the inside of my mouth, he gave me *preventative* advice based on scientific research, and he was always a genuine person with me. My hygienist was wonderful, and the administrative assistant was helpful and professional. I was very sad when I had to move away from Boston.

Somerville family dental is amazing and by far the best dental care I've ever received. Dr. Nick is awesome, communicative, and was very understanding of my dental anxiety. Literally sad to be moving away and having to find a new dentist bc I loved my experience here so much.

I've been going to Somerville Family Dental for over 2 years. It is a very friendly and thorough place. There is plenty of on street parking nearby so that takes a lot of stress off the table. It is also within walking distance of the Union Square T stop. The receptionists, hygienists and Dentists are always friendly and helpful. They really make an effort to get to know you. Each visit feels like a continuation of the last. I especially appreciate the "no upsell" vibe. They point out things that may need work but provide ways to deal with them and they monitor your progress. Have you ever been to a dentist and all they want to do is sell something? It's not like that. I hate to leave but I moved far away thank you for all your hard work and flexibility!

Dr Shoji filled two cavities for me this week and was very nice. He explained what he was doing and did not cause me unreasonable pain. And took high-def pictures of my teeth throughout the process so he could explain what he'd done afterward. As cavity fillings go, this was a good experience. Everyone around the office was friendly, as well.

I switched to Somerville Family Dental from another dentist in Somerville, and the difference is amazing! My experience with my old dentist left me with a lot of trauma related to my teeth and made me nervous to go to the dentist or get work done on my teeth. Every visit, Dr. Nik helps me feel more and more reassured about my teeth. He is so knowledgeable and friendly, and most importantly, he doesn't try to nickel and dime you by requesting you get all kinds of procedures (I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars I spent at other practices because they told me I had 4 cavities every time I visited). I always leave my visit with action steps I can take to maintain my dental health and feeling relaxed and happy. I plan on going here as long as I possibly can!
