Dr. Skinner attended Luther College for his undergraduate education and was accepted early to the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he obtained his dental degree. He then served an externship at Broad Lawns Dental Clinic and worked as an associate dentist before opening his own practice.
Since his graduation from dental school in 1997, Dr. Skinner has engaged in extensive postgraduate education. This has encompassed a broad range of topics, from orthodontics to dental implants and more. He has obtained certifications in IV sedation, Invisalign clear aligners, advanced rotary endodontics (root canal therapy), and BioLase laser treatment. His commitment to lifelong education allows him to provide his patients with the best results in the least invasive manner with a high emphasis on comfort and ensures the highest level of care, both today and tomorrow.
Dr. Skinner is a very active participant in the community. He volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and Meals from the Heartland and participates in an annual day of free treatment for veterans. He also donates free dental care to the local needy through Donated Dental Services and is involved with organizations dedicated to feeding and clothing the homeless/less fortunate.

Karen grew up in Chariton and lives in Ankeny with her husband and daughters. She graduated from the DMACC dental assisting program and has been in the dental field for over 30 years 22 years as a dental assistant and 10 as a business assistant. In her free time, Karen enjoys being outside, taking walks, camping, and spending time with family and friends. She loves meeting new people and helping them obtain beautiful and healthy smiles.
Beth is a 2007 graduate of the DMACC Dental Hygiene program. Prior to her entry into hygiene, she worked as a dental assistant and has been in the dental field since 1999. Her main goal as a hygienist is to give care to patients in a calm and caring atmosphere where their comfort and well-being is the main concern. Beths hobbies include live concerts, gardening, and reading. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her son for hockey, vacations to the beach, and spending time with friends and family.

Best doctor and staff as it comes to dental care in Iowa. This doctor always has clean comfortable practice and keeps his staff and patients long term. His work over the years was outstanding and he changed my dental health and confidence a great deal. Undoubtedly a 5 star practice. Everyone is kind and they listen. I am grateful that this is my dentist.

I'm not sure if they misspelled "soulless" or if they meant you'd be seeking solace after their work but if you are looking for a dentist that charges way, way too much, does mediocre work and then won't even return your call when something goes wrong, well then look no further! You found your new dentist! I first came to Dr. Skinner to repair a crown that had come loose. He did not do the original crown but it had come loose a number of times so I needed a new dentist. He said that he'd reattach it but if it happened again I might need a new crown. Well, sure enough, it was not fully sealed and it continued to decay, eventually leading me back to his chair. At that point, he said it could be extracted or he could put a post in, new crown and save the tooth. When I asked his recommendation, without hesitation it was "save the tooth". $4000 later, I have a post and a new crown but 2 months in, something felt off. I went back in and he took an x-ray and said that my root canal had failed and I'd need an endodontist. I already had one and was able to get in the next day. My endodontist informed me of what Dr. Skinner wouldn't, the tooth had cracked at the root where the post was put in and the x-ray clearly showed it. While I was certainly upset, I know there is no guarantee in dental work and knew there wasn't a lot of tooth to start so it is what it is. My hope was that Dr. Skinner might perform the extraction at a discount since I had just given him $4000. He wouldn't even return the call. Instead, he sent me a bill for an x-ray and "examination". Do yourself a favor and find another dentist.

I needed a crown. Although going to a dentist isn't on my list of fun things to do, I visited on July 11. The whole procedure was done in an efficient and painless manner. I would recommend this office for any dental work.

Thoroughly impressed. I went in with a severely problematic wisdom tooth and without insurance they got me scheduled the very next day for extraction and set me up with a reasonable payment plan. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. A++

They were amazing when I got my wisdom teeth out. I was very nervous about the procedure but they made sure I was well informed about after care and pain. They numbed me up so well and I didn't feel a thing. Plus they let me keep the teeth! Highly recommend.

First visit was great! Have had many worse visits with other providers but this one seems different. Dr. is willing to listen to what is important to you and come up with a plan best suited to you. I appreciate it very much! Highly recommend!

Solace dental was the third dentist office that I've visited since moving to Iowa 5 years ago. I'm one of those people that's terrified of going to the dentist but Solace Dental made me feel safe and comfortable from the minute I walked through the door.
