The American Dental Association recommends cleaning between your teeth daily with an interdental cleaner (like floss). Cleaning between your teeth may help preventcavities and gum disease. Cleaning between your teeth helps remove a sticky film calledplaque. Plaque contains bacteria that feeds on leftover food or sugar in your mouth. When that happens, it releases an acid that can eat away at the outer shell of your teeth and cause cavities.

Plaque that is not removed by brushing and cleaning between your teeth can eventually harden into a rough substance called tartar (or calculus). Tartar collects along your gum line and can lead to gum disease. Once tartar forms, only your dentist can remove it.

The most important thing about cleaning between your teeth is to do it. As long as you do a thorough job, it doesnt matter when. Pick a time of day when you can devote an extra couple of minutes to your dental care.

Cleaning between your teeth should not be painful. If you do it too hard, you could damage the tissue between your teeth. If youre too gentle, you might not be getting the food out. Its normal to feel some discomfort when you first start, but dont give up. With daily brushing and cleaning between your teeth, that discomfort should ease within a week or two. If your pain persists, feel free to come talk to Dr. Jessica or Dr. Stevenson.

Dr. Jessica is the most amazing dentist in existence. I have seen her for many years and decided that its about time I leave a review. I struggle with anxiety, so I really appreciate how calm the environment at her office is. The office is also always very clean and I'm always met with a smile. Dr. Jessica is so gentle and listens really well. She explains things before she does them and patient comfort is obviously very important to her. I will also say that the office staff were very helpful in aiding me recently with my new insurance. And my hygienist was so gentle around areas that I said were sensitive. I feel so lucky that I grew up with such a positive professional dental experience. I can't recommend Dr. Jessica and staff enough.

I've had over 50 years sitting in dentist chairs, much more than I care to admit. I've lost several teeth due to poor dental hygiene as a child, a past history with drugs and perhaps some bad genes. Needless to say, I have an upper and lower partial denture. I've tried several attempts at dental implants from a wonderful local oral surgeon, but I'm the small percentage where the just haven't worked for me. Here's the GOOD NEWS....... Dr. Stevenson Smith has always been available to make a treatment plan, always involving ME in the process, always giving me the options, and helping me make a decision I'll be happy with. Every time I had another implant failure, due to my bone loss, Dr. Stevenson worked me into the schedule in order to adjust my partial to work for me. I've NEVER had a dentist work so hard for the patients well-being. He is not in my dental insurance network, and I pay more to see him for service, but I'd pay it anytime, simply because he's the best and my care has never been better. Thank you Stevenson, Jessica, and your entire staff.

I lost a crown on Thanksgiving - The team took care of me Monday. Dr. Smith and crew were caring, friendly and took time during their lunch break to be sure I was good to go.

I went to my now ex dentist for a concern. He poked around for about five minutes and without any certainty decided what was wrong. But it was gonna cost me $1200. Since he wasn't confident about what was wrong, I opted to look elsewhere for a second opinion. The doctor did a very, very thorough exam, and I left with a whole lot of valuable information, and a projection for costs that were nearly half, and the actual problem wasn't at all what my x-dentist in his 5 minute exam said. My ex dentist didn't even notice that there were some cavity concerns. Good grief! PS my ex dentist also didn't forward the recent x-rays I'd had done... Wanna know who it was? Smiles 4 Oregon.

My 4 year old son went in to the office for some fillings and I have never been happier with a dental visit in my life. They were so gentle, kind, soft spoken and overall phenomenal! Every time we go to them it's great! No matter the level of work needing to be done! Absolutely recommend to everyone!

I have been with Smith and Jackson Family Dental for many many years and I could not speak more highly of the entire team. I have never doubted that they have my best interest in mind or that I'm ok the best hands from regular check ups, navigating insurance or the rare dental emergency if I chipped a tooth. I don't always look forward to a dental procedure but I absolutely look forward to seeing the friendly faces at Smith and Jackson. Definitely leave smiling brighter than I walk in every time.

I have been to probably 5-6 dentists, and I've always been pretty self-conscious about my teeth. On my very first appointment they offered treatments NOBODY else did. Now that it's done, they literally took care of something WITH EASE that I've been most self-conscious about in my smile; all in a way I had never conceived and NO other dentist recommended. They take pride in their work and I'm blessed to have found them. NO CAP. THESE GUYS THE BEST!

My husband and I have been going to this office for years. We love all the staff! Dr. Lacey recently retired and we've both met Dr. Stevenson, who took over. He's just as kind, gentle and practical as Dr. Lacey. Big shoes were filled with this transition. Highly recommend!!
