Dr. Smith is a native of North Carolina, valedictorian of his high school, top of his class in dental school and lauded graduate of UNC. But, what sets him apart is his passion for people and what orthodontics can accomplish to improve your life.
Dr. Kat grew up just south of Charlotte, North Carolina, but she was actually born in the former USSR and came to the United States as a baby. She loves seeing the transformation in her patients lives and confidence.
Dr. Kat and the entire staff at Smith & Heymann are wonderful! Dr. Kat has done a great job straightening my teeth. If I ever have any questions about my treatment plan she makes sure to take the time to answer each one thoroughly and she does so with genuine kindness. I can't recommend this practice enough!

Dr. Heymann remained at UNC for his specialty training in orthodontics, where he received the Andrew McArthur Brooks Fellowship, as well as earned a Master of Science and an orthodontic certificate from one of the most well-respected orthodontic programs in the world.
Dr. Kat attended UNC, where she earned her undergraduate and dental degrees. From there, she went on to study orthodontics at Texas A&M University in Dallas, where she won the prestigious award of Resident of the Year from an esteemed orthodontic journal.

Our family has been patients of Drs Smith and Heymann for many years now, as both our daughters were under their care in their teenage years. I recently decided to straighten my smile with Invisalign, and the entire experience was simple and painless. The staff and doctors there are always affable and thorough, and I cannot recommend this practice highly enough.

Smith Orthodontics is the place to go, if you are planning on fixing your teeth...look no further. Dr. Smith and stuff are the best you will find in the area. I always thought my teeth were beyond messed up and had no chance to have a nice smile until I found Dr. Smith and saw before and after photos of other clients. One year later after I started my invisling treatment, I can truly say they exceeded my expectations Thank you very much guys.

Best dental experience ever. I ENJOYED every visit to Dr. Heymann and am thrilled with my treatment results! Several people recommended him (including my favorite dental hygienist, who was herself a patient of his) for Invisalign straightening. He is knowledgeable, willing to patiently and thoroughly answer all questions, always accommodated my crazy travel schedule, and is generally a pleasure to work with, as are ALL of his assistants and staff. His convenient Durham office is also beautifully nestled into a wooded lot, and I was genuinely sad to leave after my final visit today. If I ever lose my retainer, I'll look forward to going back and paying them to make me a new one!

Caring, genuine, fun, competent...these are just some of the words that can be used to describe Dr. Smith and his office. My son had the best experience there the other day and he isn't even a patient. He sees another orthodontist, but since I was a patient of Dr. Smith's I asked if he would see my son just to provide some extra reassurance regarding an upcoming recommended procedure. He kindly said yes. Our appointment happened to be on Halloween day. We walked in and the first thing we noticed was the front desk looked like a VW Beetle Van from the 70s. Then we saw the tie-dye shirts and bell-bottoms and realized the entire office was decked out in 70s attire. With such a fun, laid back, casual vibe to the place, along with a dentist wearing a wig with braided ponytails, the message to my son was loud and clear - everything will be groovy. He left the office more relaxed and at ease. I left with extra information and that great feeling of knowing that there are still kind people out there who care. When we went to pay, we were told there was no charge. My son shot me this look like "really?" Then as we walked out the door, he said "so now why do YOU go here, but I don't"... Dr. Smith, you have a class act office. Thank you.

Both my wife and I have used Dr. Smith for Invisilign, and both of us started our experience with another provider. Dr. Smith has the smoothest running, kindest, and most capable ortho practice I've ever worked with. The facilities are upscale and clean, and service very friendly and caring. Dr. Smith works very closely with outside dentists to ensure you have the outcome you want, and never stops until he is satisfied with the results (and his standards were even higher than mine). Just go here... you won't be disappointed.
