The office of Douglas N. Smith, DMD, MDS is proud to have serving Northwest Pennsylvania specializing in Orthodontics since 1993. With so many years in practice here, Dr. Smith, Dr. Craig, and our team have made lasting friendships with most of our patients, and helpedthem perfect their bite and their smiles! When you get braces at our office, it is more than coming to the office for adjustments every couple of months. You have joined our extended family.

Most orthodontists can make teeth straight. What separates our team from others is not only our exceptional skills, but our exceptional caring in making the orthodontic treatment an experience not a routine. We work hard to provide a fun atmosphere for patients andmake it enjoyable to have braces.

Serving children, teens, and adults, our practice includes a great team that is dedicated to helping everyone feel secure, caredfor, and educated when it comes to their particular treatment. As completely hands-on doctors, Drs. Smith and Craig personally do all the major work, including applying braces and Envision Aligners when these techniques are called for.

Every patient has a personal treatment plan and is treated like an individual, rather than part of a system. This is one of the reasons why we have such success, and attractso many patients in and around the entire Northwest Pennsylvania area.

With extensive education and training in orthodontics, our doctors stay ahead of the constantly evolving science of orthodontics in order to give you leading-edge care. Our office is fully equipped with i-CAT 3D imaging system, 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanner, and 3D printing.

At Douglas N Smith, DMD, MDS we are sensitive to your time and your budget. We have created special hours to accommodate your busy schedules, such as early Friday mornings and Thursday evenings. With affordable treatment, we are able to reach out to the community in order to ensure you get the oral care you need.

I absolutely love being an orthodontist! When I was little, I was very self-conscious about my teeth, and orthodontic treatment gave me a smile I can feel confident about. That is exactly what I love doing for other people. Giving kids a smile they can feel good about is an incredible feeling. And for adults who have lived their whole lives feeling self-conscious about their teeth, I love reminding them that it is never too late for a smile transformation!

I believe that a smile is the most beautiful thing we can wear. I LOVE helping people achieve a smile that they feel good about because the world can always use more smiles. Here at Dr. Dougs office, we truly care about our patients, and our team works together to make the orthodontic experience easy and fun for all the kids and adults who come to see us.

I grew up in Sandy Lake, and attended Lakeview High School where I met my husband, Dan. After high school, I attended Slippery Rock University for three years and studied biology. After getting married in March 2008, Dan and I moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where he was stationed as a soldier in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.

I completed my fourth year of undergraduate studies at Methodist University in Fayetteville, and then attended dental school at West Virginia University. I graduated in May 2013 with my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Afterward, I completed a 30-month orthodontic residency at Seton Hill University in Greensburg to earn my Master of Science in Orthodontics.

As an orthodontic specialist, I understand the importance of continuing education. As technology advances, there is always more to learn! Patients deserve to know that their orthodontist is staying up to date on the newest techniques and technology available in the field.

In 2015, Dan and I moved back to Sandy Lake, and we are very happy to be living in western Pennsylvania near our family and friends! We have three precious kiddos: Keira, Carter, and Connor. Outside of work, I love reading, spending time with my family, watching our kids grow, taking long walks, and attending church at Cochranton Community Church.

Douglas N. Smith Orthodontics - Orthodontist in Meadville, PA

I was introduced to the world of orthodontics through baseball! I considered myself the slick-fielding shortstop of the minor leagues. However, when I was nine, a baseball hit a rock and I became the slick-fielding shortstop without a front tooth. The dentist tried to re-implant the tooth, which lasted for only a year or two. The tooth was knocked out again while I was wrestling with my brother. I then had to wear a flipper until the space was orthodontically treated by Dr. Tesone, who was the orthodontist in Meadville then, and my experience was obviously awesome. I decided theto their Tool and Die n that my baseball career was officially over and I wanted to be an orthodontist. I was 12, set my sights on orthodontics, and never looked back. I wanted to be an Orthodontist so I could pass on what Dr. Tesone did for me to all of my patients. I want you to have an Orthodontic experience, like I had, that can change your life giving you happiness and confidence for many years. I have never wanted anything different.

For years I worked for my father Jay, at Smith Brothers Machine and Tool and for my brother Don at Ideal Tool and Mold. I have always stated that I learned as much about Orthodontics and business from my father and brother than anyone else. My love for the technical and engineering portion of Orthodontics came from my exposure working in a tool shop. I still use many of the skills I learned from my tool shop days even today as I calculate vectors!

After graduating from Saegertown high school in 1981, I attended the University of Pittsburgh and obtaineda biology degree in 1985. I started dental school at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with my Doctorate of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D.) in 1989. After finishing dental school, I completed a one-year general practice residency at the Oakland VA hospital in Pittsburgh. I returned to the University of Pittsburgh, and earnedmy Master of Dental Science (M.D.S.) in Orthodontics in 1993. I finally returned to the home I loved after 12 years and set up my practice on July 15, 1993.

In 2008, I became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Only 15% of Orthodontists spend the additional time and effort to become board certified. Board certification is an accomplishment I am very proud to have achieved.

In 2010 came a great opportunity to combine two of my professional loves. I was asked by Dr. Don and Dr. Dan Rinchuse, the chairman and clinic director of Seton Hill University Department of Orthodontics, to teach biomechanics (moving teeth) and be on the clinical staff. I traveled to Greensburgevery other Wednesday to teach orthodontics until July 2020. I am still on faculty at The Center for Orthodontics at Seton Hill University. However, now the residents will do the driving. We have arranged to have the residents come to Meadville so they may be exposed to how an office operates and have hands on access to technology that they dont have access to.

I really enjoy my faculty position in teaching Americas future orthodontists not only mechanically how to be an orthodontist but, also the passion of being the best orthodontist. In return being around youthful residentsenhances my passion to constantly improve my practice. I always say if Im doing everything the same way five years from now then its time to retire. Always strive to be better.

Furthermore, in 2010 I was fortunate enough to be chosen to become a consultant at 3M Unitek, the largest orthodontic supplier in the United States. That means I get to use my past experience in tool and die, biomechanics, and orthodontics while serving on their advisory board, a very exciting honor. It also enables our office to be one of the most current and up-to-date facilities in the area, complete with cone-beam radiology, intraoral scanning, and 3D model printing.

I was born at Meadville Medical Center, and have lived in Saegertown all my life. My father Jay Smith owned Smith Brothers Machine and Tool. My mother Neva worked for my dad for many years. After I graduated my mom became my first employee! My mom worked for me for many years until my dads health declined and she took time to be with him. My dad passed away in 2007 and my mom came back to work for several years. Mom passed away in 2020. I miss them and think about them every day.

It was during dental school that I met my wifeDeb, here in Meadville. We were married in 1987 between my second and third year of dental school and moved back to Saegertown to my grandmothers house. Deb is an accountant and takes care of all of the business parts of the practice that I hate. Yes, we work together every day and drive home together and still enjoy each others company. We certainly are a team and I could not imagine practicing without her.

Just before graduation, in 1989, our sonZackwas born.Having Zack was certainly a life changer! I fondly remember the days of laying on the floor reading my Orthodontic journals while Zack would lay on my back, watching cartoons until he fell asleep. Some of our favorites were Dark Wing Duck and The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers. Zack graduated from Saegertown High School in 2007. He then achieved a B.S in Psychology from Penn State Behrend in 2011. Zack worked in social service with Autistic children until he went back to further his education and graduated in 2020 from Portland State with a Masters Degree in Education.

In 1994, our second son, Derek, was born. As a child Derek had eczema and asthma problems. However, his health concerns were not serious and only made him stronger. Derek is the ultimate trivia player to have on your team. He was captain of the High Q team at Saegertown and we were able to see him compete at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating from Saegertown in 2012 he attended The University of Ohio in Athens, Ohio where he earned a dual degree in Journalism and Political Science

In 1996 we purchased an old run down house that was undergoing a renovation. The Winters family would buy dilapidated houses and renovate them until someone would step in and buy the house and finish the project. It has been a lifes work! I would like to say after all these years we are finished. However, I cannot. Deb and I are continually working on the house and gardens.

When it comes to my free time, we are a seasonal family. During the summer Deb and I spend much of our time with flowers. We divide, plant, prune, and deadhead for hours. But that makes the time that we spend on our patio and porch much more gratifying. I like to listen to my 90s grunge music and arena rock; explains the office music! Fall is about sports. The entire family, including sons, nephews, nieces and their children root for the Green Bay Packers. If you see a Packer coat around town be aware, they are probably related. Also, October is the start of hockey and we are fanatics for our Penguins. During the winter I snowboard and Deb skis. We go to Peek-n-Peak every weekend possible to enjoy the snow. This is one of my great passions. Spring? Well we sit inside and watch Disney+ because you cant snowboard and you cant enjoy being outside when its 33 and raining! During this time we try to escape to our other love.Disney World.

I started my journey as an orthodontic assistant the summer of 2019. My main duties are assisting chair side, sterilization, office contests, social media and decorating the office. My favorite part of my job is seeing a patients smile transform into something better than it was before. I enjoy working for Dr. Doug because no two days are ever the same, & and my coworkers are the best 2nd family. I love the work atmosphere here! I had the opportunity to undergo treatment with our Envision Aligners shortly after I started, and I was amazed at the change I saw in just six short months!

Ive lived in Northwestern PA my whole life. I have two horses and a Corgi named Reba. Outside of work, I stay busy barrel racing, crafting with my Cricut, riding in the buddy seat of the tractor with my boyfriend, & making memories on the farm.

I started my dental experience in a general practice as an assistant. I went to Dr. Doug for my second round of braces and fell in love with the caring staff and up to date equipment. They offered me a job and I couldnt turn it down. Here, I am the financial/insurance coordinator. I will answer any questions you have and try to make sure your experience here was as good as mine when I was a patient. I also help with lab work and assist when needed. It is amazing to watch those shy patients that didnt want to smile show their smile more and more. End of treatment patients become more proud with their smile; and their overall confidence is out of this world. We do so much more here than just move teeth! I am so fortunate to have played a part in the process of helping patients achieve their perfect smile.

I am from a small town where I was lucky enough to meet my husband. We are blessed with a home that has 20 acres which is perfect for my twin daughters, Adeline and Aspen, plus our 4 dogs; Sir Ruger Booger, Rossi Cool Posse Mae, Roadie Macaroni, and Reign Dont Drop the Beat. I love to travel, spend time outdoors, and relax with my girls and husband.

When Im not working, I enjoy spending time with my son, Carter and my best friend Alyssa. I also enjoy many outdoor activities, and play card and board games.

I began my orthodontic career in 2009 and have been with Dr. Smith ever since. I love working with people! Dr. Smith changed my life when I was a patient in his office by improving my smile. I always want to make our patients feel as comfortable and they made me feel! Here at Dr. Smiths, I am the New Patient Coordinator. Im the smiling face who will be taking your new patient records; and working hand in hand with Brenda, our Treatment Coordinator. It doesnt feel like a job. I get to do something I LOVE with people I LOVE! When Im not helping Dr. Smith and Dr. Dana created beautiful smiles and funny office videos, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three dogs, studying Gods holy word, golfing, playing basketball, or fishing.

After earning my Associate Degree of Applied Science in Dental Technology, I worked as a lab technician and a dental assistant for several years before starting with Dr. Smith in 2015. As the Treatment Coordinator, I present the doctors treatment plan and the financial options to the parent and patient. I enjoy seeing the changes in a persons smile, and self-confidence as we improve their smile. I currently live in Cambridge Springs with my husband Greg, our daughter Cassidy, and Bentley, our family dog. I enjoy laughing with my family and friends, camping, and gardening.

I graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Accounting. Doug and I started the practice in 1993. We were both happy to return to the area where we grew up. It was nice to come home to family and friends. Here at the office, I am the behind-the-scenes person. I take care of the day-to-day operations as well as the accounting, employee management, and marketing. We take great pride in creating beautiful smiles and making our patients and their families feel like they are part of our family. We are truly blessed with an amazing staff. In my off-work time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, trips to Disney, traveling, and skiing. Doug and I have been married since 1987 and we have two grown up sons, Zack and Derek. We enjoy spending time with them whenever we can.

I always loved to come visit my Aunt Rebecca and Dr. Doug at the office when I was little, so in September of 2019 I decided to job shadow here. I loved the environment, and I started working in August of 2020. I love talking with patients and helping them achieve the most beautiful smiles. When Im not at work, I enjoy singing at church, hanging out with friends and family, and spending time with God.

Douglas N. Smith Orthodontics - Orthodontist in Meadville, PA

I started working with Dr. Smith in August of 2007, after completing a dental assisting program at Great Lakes Institute of Technology. However, my first experience in the office was when I was a patient! I had a great time here and became more confident about myself, and I wanted to help others have that same feeling. As an assistant, my main duties are clinical assisting, sterilization, taking new patient radiographs, photographs and 3D scans. I also help organize our social media, ordering supplies, and patient contests. I am happily married to my husband Richard. We had our first daughter Leah in April 2015 and our second daughter Bryn in April 2018. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing outside with my daughters, and shopping.

I had the pleasure of joining Dr. Smiths office about a year ago, and I couldnt be more grateful to be a part of this hardworking team. This clinic provides such a creative and collaborative space where we can directly work with our patients, which is the best part of the job! I love getting to know patients and building quality relationships with my peers and the community. Im a strong supporter of the arts and have been heavily involved in music and theater for most of my life. You may have even seen me perform right across the street at the Academy Theater where Ive been involved in numerous productions. I also love to travel, cook, and learn about cultures around the world.

I first started working with Dr. Doug over 20 years ago! After 7 years, my love of dentistry prompted me to continue my education and become a Registered Dental Hygienist. I recently moved back to the area and rejoined Dr. Doug, Dr. Dana, and the team; which honestly feels more like family.

We believe that people are of utmost importance; and while we are creating beautiful smiles, it is my goal to make sure each patient that sits in my chair knows how valuable their life is. I am thankful to work in an office that allows me to take the time to be a listening ear for someone who needs to be heard. Increasing self-confidence is accomplished here by compassion, encouragement, and of course, orthodontics! When Im not at work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, crafting, metal detecting, fishing, and being outside.

I started working for Dr. Dougs office the day he opened his practice in 1993. This is a great place to work. Dr. Doug makes it fun for the staff and patients. In orthodontics you have a chance to build a great relationship with the patients. I also love seeing the confidence that people gain from having their teeth straightened. I live in Conneautville with my husband Doug. We have two children; Stacy, who married Tim and had twins, Forrest and Raegan; and Brett, who married Heather and had two sons, Hank and Colton. Becoming a grandmother is so much fun! I love spending time with family and friends, playing cards and board games, camping, and being in the woods.

I started as a patient and this office always made me feel like family. I get to work some of the best people especially my two best friends Alyssa and Ashlynn. When Im not working, I enjoy hiking, concerts, and anything outdoors.

I had went to Smith's for roughly 4 years. Today, I just had my final appointment. Normally I don't leave Google Reviews, but I felt the need to after all the work all the kind people did for me there. Leaving them after so long genuinely made me teary eyed. Everyone is patient, kind, the atmosphere is nice and I genuinely got to know the sweet individuals working there. Me and my younger sibling both always looked forward to going just because everyone was so nice and respectful there. They are all very professional and caring. I have never experienced any bad visits in all of 4 years I going to them! I'll admit, they were all so kind to me as I was growing up that it made me deeply saddened thinking of not seeing them often anymore. Very kind, professional people who genuinely care for each patient and a great relaxing atmosphere. (And great background music choices over the years too!) I recommend to all of my friends who are in need of a good orthodontist. Thank you, all who work at Smith's office. :)

I never had to go to the orthodontist before so it was very nerve racking for myself. My first time there everyone at the office was very nice and understanding. They helped me understand a lot of things about my teeth and helped me go in the right direction. I ended up having to get braces and the day I got them they were very nice and explained everything they were going to do. Everyone there is amazing and I will definitely tell others about them!

I took my 13 year old son for his first consult. I signed him in and returned to my car as I have 2 other children. He went in, and a woman brought him out directly to my car when he was finished. She was so pleasant and informed me thoroughly as to what happened and the next steps!

Called in the morning to see if it would be possible to squeeze my daughter in due to a popped wire on her braces. They were able to accommodate and had her in and out within 10 minutes. Plenty of time to get to her after school activities. Thank you so much!!!
