Dr. Jeff Gardner graduated from The Medical University of South Carolina in 1992. He is involved in many professional organizations including The South Carolina Dental Association, The Seattle Study Club, The Academy of General Dentistry, and is a past president of The Coastal District Dental Society.
Dr. Gardner is a member of the leadership council of The South Carolina Donated Dental Services. He received his Mastership in The Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) in 2015. This award requires the completion of 1100 hours of approved continuing education courses. At least 400 of the hours require hands-on coursework. Only 2% of dentists in the United States have achieved this high honor.

Dr. Bethany A. Herbert (formerly Dr. Harbin) was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. Dr. Herbert attended the College of Charleston where she received the Presidential Scholarship and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Upon graduating from the College of Charleston, Dr. Herbert attended the Medical University of South Carolina, earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
While attending dental school, she was rewarded a fellowship from the National Institutes of Health for her research, which focused on the science of gum disease. During dental school, in conjunction with her studies, she also tutored fellow students. Additionally, Dr. Bethany Herbert greatly appreciated volunteering to help patients locally and on international mission trips, including to Jamaica where she treated many dental emergencies.
Dr. Herberts background in education makes her extremely interested in furthering her dental training by attending continuing education meetings and participating in local study clubs. Dr. Herbert is a member of the South Carolina Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Elizabeth is from Columbia, S.C. She has lived in Charleston since 1991. Liz graduated from the College of Charleston in 1995. She received an Associate Health degree from Trident Technical College in 2001. Liz has been a hygienist with the practice since 2010. She enjoys exercising, boating, and spending time with her husband and son.
Anna was born as a triplet and raised in Charleston, SC. She joined the team at Smiling Oak Dentistry in 2014 as a dental assistant and then went on to obtain her dental hygiene license at Trident Technical College.
Katelyn was born and raised in Summerville, South Carolina. She graduated from Trident Technical College as a Certified Expanded Duty Dental Assistant. She provides exceptional care to each and every patient while assisting alongside Dr. Gardner and Dr. Herbert. She enjoys boating, fishing, hunting, and spending time with her boyfriend Brian and their son Brantley.
Bridgette was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from Trident Technical College as a Certified Expanded Duty Dental Assistant. As a dental assistant for Dr. Gardner and Dr. Harbin, Bridgette ensures optimal comfort and communication with all patients. Bridgette is the middle sister of three girls. During her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, going out with family & friends, and most of all spending time with her niece Kalanie.
