While a relatively new transplant to beautiful Eugene, Oregon (the native home of his wife, Nancy), Dr. Sullivan is not new to the dental profession, having worked with over 10000 friends and neighbors in his hometownsince 1984.
'I grew up one of five kids working hard on a working farm, and knew pretty early that I 'd prefer a life indoors,' he laughs. 'Dentistry has afforded me the amazing opportunity to not only stay out of the weather, but much more importantly to serve my community in a very tangible way. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing patients leave my practice happier for the experience, and healthier, as well.'
He is also proud to be recognized internationally as both a teacher and a leader in the dental profession. Many weekends find him helping other dentists learn the nuances of what it takes to createbeautiful, long lasting smiles by presenting lectures on aesthetic and real-world dentistry. Its great to help other dentists see what dentistry can truly be for their patients, he says, and its even greater to see the change high qualitydentistry can make in patients lives. For me, a beautiful and healthy smile is about reflecting the person 's soul underneath.'
A member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD)since 1998, Dr. Sullivans passion for his profession eventually led him to an even higher level of service; for many years he served as a member of the AACD Board of Directors, and was the 25th President of the AACD, servingin 2011-12.
The AACD is an incredible organization that is changing the way general and cosmetic dentistry is practiced across the globe. Im proud to be an Accredited member, and was privileged that the membership allowed me to help shape their future, Dr. Sullivan said.
The AACD is the worlds largest dental organization dedicated to Cosmetic Dentistry, and is recognized for having the professions most stringent, double-blind, peer-reviewed accreditation for specialization in cosmetic dentistry. The AACD also encourages and enforces the highest standards of ethical conduct and responsible patient care among dentists. Dr. Sullivan earned his Accreditation in 2006,which means he has earned a level of accreditation held by less than five hundred dentists worldwide.
Testament to the memberships trust in Dr. Sullivan is that the AACD membership has invited him to continue on in his role of leader, participating as a speaker at annual AACD conferences and representing the AACD in Sweden, Japan, and South Korea teaching what he knows so well.
I have known Dr. John Sullivan since 2003, when I first began my career in dentistry, choosing to find and work with only the very best dentists in the country on their marketing and thereby help them attract patients whom they could best serve and who would be most likely to value the quality service delivered.
Dr. Sullivan was my first big client as strange asit may sound, but in the world of dentistry (and yes, there is one) he is a well-known and well-respected dentist, both for his skill and expertise and for his ingrained sense of honor. We became friends from that point on and over the next decade I worked with hundreds of dentists and dental companies.
Fast forward ten years and we found ourselves both single, and decided to become life partners. Why? For me, as Ive told so many of our friends, it was in no small part because of his basic down-to-the-core sense ofhonor and do-gooder mentality combined with his 'get-it-done' MacGyver-like skills.
Here's the thing: even if Dr. Sullivan never had to work another day in his life, hed still open the practice doors of Smiles4Oregon every single day in order to help as many of his friends and neighbors as possible. I always thought I was a serious pollyanna, but he outshines me by far. And when you put the two of us together, we start imagining fantastical futures where everyone has a happy, healthy, shining and beautiful smile so that everyones life can be as fulfilling as possible.
To that end, we actively participate in several philanthropic endeavors, from the national Give Back a Smile campaign, sponsored by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and focused on restoring the smiles of survivors of domestic violence, to participating in Free Dental Days across the country, to our own local initiative: Smile Forward.
What do we mean by Smile Forward you may ask? For us and our incredible team the phrase Smile Forward is our vision statement. It means that everything we do each and every day we walk into the practice is intended to make the world and our patients lives a better place through modern dentistry. It sounds trite to those not enamored with dentistry to the extent we are, but think about it: what fun is life if you cant talk with ease, enjoy your favorite foods, sing with abandon, or smile your love upon your beloved? To us, that is everything.
More true stories: every single testimonial from our real, happy patients. There are plenty more 5-stars on ourFacebook,Yelp and Google pages, but why notjustcall 541-225-4866 and find out for yourself what all of the fuss is about?
'By far the most enjoyable dentist experience I 've ever had....Everything about my experience was like nothing I 'd seen before. The office is beautiful. Like I want to live in it forever beautiful. Everybody was so friendly and I would have given 5 stars alone for the perfect use of that water spritzer - at every other office I either get a bath or I 'm covered in my own drool by the end of it. AND, on top of it all, I got a new tooth! The color is beautiful and perfectly matched and it all took less than 1 hour...'
