Dr. Watkins grew up around dentistry in Northwest Washington, DC. His dad was a general dentist for 50 years and he considers it a privilege to carry on his dental legacy in the community with an emphasis in prosthodontics. Dr. Watkins has been married (Natasha) since 2001. They have fraternal twins and reside in the Northwest Washington, DC area. Dr. Watkins enjoys family time, tennis and photography.
Dr. Kaihara has practiced dentistry since 1981. His personal approach to dentistry enables you to achieve your dental health and appearance goals. Dr. Kaihara grew up in Fullerton, California. Prior to his formal dental education, he spent many hours in a private dental office of a local dentist in Fullerton observing and learning clinical procedures. Dr. Kaihara has been married (Shelly) since 1989. They have three children and are residents of Great Falls, Virginia. Dr. Kaihara also invests his time and skills alongside his family serving in dental missions with the Future of Nicaragua Foundation. He also coached youth sports including soccer, little league and wrestling in Great Falls and enjoys fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing and home brewing.

Dr Watkins examination was too brief and confusing. I was not aware I needed a root canal until I spoke afterwards with the receptionist and I assumed the dentist referred to was on the staff. Very confusing

Due to several home repairs simultaneously occurring - maddeningly, my 9:30 am appointment, which was right there in my iPhone calendar big as life, I did not show up for my routine propylacxis appointment. The Smiles International office manager called around 10:30 and asked if I was coming in. I apologized profusely and said I'd blow the appointment, and I was graciously offered a 2:30 pm appointment that afternoon, which I accepted straightaway. The hygienist was - as is always the case at Smiles - friendly, efficient and did an excellent job of cleaning, checking for pockets, polishing and examining for any other possible oral lesions. While in the treatment room she also made my next appointment. All in all, I couldn't have had a more satisfactory experience...she also explained how and why, because of the COVID problem, use of the - for lack of a better descriptor - "spitting bowl" - has been eliminated. This office provides the best care with the kindest, most attentive staff. They are organized and provide treatment plans that help you plan your dental costs in advance- no hidden fees or surprises day of service. I can appreciate that. They offer all the services you would otherwise have to go to multiple offices for. Dr. Pinto is amazing and has a great communication & a gentle approach to help ease anxiety for those of us that fear dental procedures. 5 stars overall!

Smiles International is truly a model dental practice. Dr. Gary Kaihara has been my dentist for nearly 30 years, and was recommended to me by one of his dental school classmates when I moved from Boston to Washington DC. From the first, Dr. Kaihara has exhibited a professionalism and genuine interest in dentistry to greater than any dentist I have ever encountered. In addition, he and his partners have always hired attentive and caring staff. The hygienists on the staff have always been highly attentive and personable, and I look forward to having them do my regular cleaning. The office staff are also invariably pleasant and efficient. I just had a cleaning which I had put off due to my great caution as to Covid. The extreme care and concern of Dr. Kaihara and the entire staff amid Covid gives me great confidence that going in for my cleaning was a wise decision.

I had a very professional and safe experience at Smiles International. I was seen on an emergency basis as a new client when I broke my tooth. I required an extraction of the remains of the tooth and a bone graft. Dr. Kaihara explained the procedure to me and what would be needed for an implant and cap. He called me that evening to see how I was faring. All went well and I could not have been more satisfied. A follow up visit up visit was scheduled for the following week.
