With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Joseph Heher has dedicated his career to enhancing and restoring the smiles of his Salisbury, MD and Delmarva-area patients. His practice iswhere several other dentists have chosen to receive dental care for themselves and their families. Utilizing innovative techniques, such as microdentistry and advanced dental technologies, Dr. Heher creates customized treatment plans that fit the needs and goals of each of his patients. His experience and skill, along with his trained artistic eye, make Dr. Heher a sought-after dental professional for preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures. At his private practice, Dr. Hehers goal is to allow each patient to feel comfortable and confident in their rejuvenated smile and to know that every patient treated is given the same degree of care he provides to his own family. This is why other dentists have chosen this practice to provide dental care for themselves.

Dr. Heher is highly skilled in many aspects of modern dentistry including preventive, general, cosmetic, restorative, and advanced treatments. For patients whowant to enhance the appearance of their smile, he provides veneers, teeth whitening, and dental bonding and recontouring. As a part of general dentistry, Dr. Heher offers dental examinations, oral cancer screenings, dental cleanings, dental sealants, fluoride treatments, periodontal scaling and root planing treatments (also referred to as deep cleanings). Dr. Heher also performs a wide array of restorative procedures such as the fabrication and placement of dental crowns, inlays, onlays, dental bridges, dentures, and tooth-colored fillings. Additionally, he offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation options for individuals who may experience anxieties during their dental visit.

After receiving his doctorate in dentistry degree from the University of Marylands Baltimore College of Dental Surgery,Dr. Heher devoted three years of service to his country as a Naval Dental Officer at the U.S. Naval Station on Guam and the Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He began his private practice in Salisbury, MD after completing his military service.

Continued professional study helps Dr. Heher remain at the forefront of modern dentistry. He has taken thousands of hours of post-graduate training both nationally and internationally in cosmetic dentistry, sleep disorder therapy, alleviation of dental apprehension, restorative dentistry, nonsurgical periodontal therapy, cranial osteopathy, preventive dentistry, and nutrition. Every year, Dr. Heher exceeds the minimum continuing education requirements required by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners.

In 2009, Dr. Heher was invited to join the Deans Faculty at the University of Marylands Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, where he continues to share his expertise with an upcoming generation of new dentists. In October of 2010, Dr. Hehers skill was acknowledged by Whats Up? Eastern Shore magazine in a confidential survey of dentists from throughout the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland for his quality of dental care. Unlike other best of listings which tend to be popularity contests favoring larger dental practices, he was the only general dentist selected by his peers from the lower Eastern Shore area. Dr. Heher is also an accomplished author and has been published in both regional and national professional dental journals.

Salisbury dentist, Joseph M. Heher, DDS, FIDC, was inducted as a Fellow into the preeminent and renowned International College of Dentists, the oldest dental honor society in the world, in recognition of his meritorious service and contributions to the art and science of the dental profession.

Membership into the College, which has chapters in more than 120 countries, is offered to outstanding dental professionals who can demonstrate theyve made significant contributions to the profession, their community and have been thoroughly vetted through a rigorous peer review process. Only 3-4% of dentists world-wide are invited to become members.

In dentistry, a Fellowship in the International College of Dentists is the highest honor a dental professional can achieve. At the 86th Convocation of the International College of Dentists held in Washington, DC, 310 dentists from across the country were inducted. Dr. Heher was the only dentist inducted from the Delmarva Peninsula.

Im honored to have been nominated, much less accepted, into such a prestigious professional organization, said Heher. Dentistry isnt just my profession, its also my passion. And Im grateful for that to be recognized by my peers.

Heher, a graduate of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery of the University of Maryland, has focused his career on providing cutting-edge, cosmetic and microscopic dentistry in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that is designed specifically for the care of apprehensive patients.

He is a member of the Deans Faculty at the University of Maryland Dental School, where he teaches clinical skills to future dentists. Dr. Heher is the previous president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Preventive Dentistry and the Eastern Shore Dental Society. He is the long-time president of the Salisbury Dental Study Club.

Dr. Heher has been married for over 50 years and has one daughter. In his spare time, his hobbies include photography, music, and dentistry. Dr. Heher realizes dentistry usually is not considered a hobby, but his passion for his profession makes it an intrinsic and enduring part of his life.

This was my first visit at Dr. Joseph Heher with my two sons. As new patients, the staff was very nice and polite as well as the doctor. Everyone engaged in conversation and the dental hygienist were very patient with my two sons while cleaning their teeth. My family and I felt welcomed and really enjoyed our experience. We look forward to building a relationship with this new dental office for they made us smile, laugh and feel comfortable!

Dr. Heher and his staff are wonderful. From my first appointment they have been welcoming, supportive, understanding and kind. Like many others, I had a great fear of the dentist chair. Working with this team of professionals has eased my fears and I actually look forward to my next appointment. I highly recommend Dr. Heher and his team.

Beware! My kids are patients for few years. They are just behind the money and trying to find loop holes to charge more. When my son was bleeding after the tooth extraction, they refused to give medicine until I pay. What a shame! Fortunately, nothing worse happened to my son.

Beware! Make sure you ask for the estimate before your visit. They try to find loopholes to charge as much as they can. Worst thing, they told no medicine for my son until I pay even when he was bleeding after the tooth extraction. What a shame!

Hearing that my son won't receive medicine until I pay was the pathetic thing. Tc

I drive from out of state just to see Dr Heher. We figured out today I have been seeing him since 2005 and consistently since 2013 with a slight hiatus when I moved. I couldn't find a dentist I liked in my new area so I chose to go back to Dr Heher. His staff treats me like royalty and I refer everyone I talk to in the area and out of the area to see him exclusively. I do not like work being done to my mouth, yet I have had my fair share and Dr Heher has always treated me with the utmost care and concern for my well-being. I wouldn't choose to go anywhere else now.

Dr Heher himself is AMAZING. I live out of state and come only to him. I hadn't been in a couple years, not having the money, I made an appointment to see him again. The problem here lies in the fact that I called Monday bc I realized I had my days mixed up, completely my fault, they aren't open on Mondays apparently. I did not leave a message. So I called back on Tuesday, about an hour before my appointment since I do work 45-50 hours a week and my day starts at 8am, this time the machine says "either closed, out to lunch or with a patient", this time I did leave a message explaining that I had called the day before and that I needed to reschedule. So at 2:15 they called to ask where I was?! How many hoops do I have to jump through to reschedule??? When I called back the woman who answered the phone was very rude and contradictory. First was going to reschedule me, then informed me I had to pay 60 dollars because I had apparently missed and appointment 2 years ago!? For real? No where on your answering machine does it say that leaving a message suffices as 24 hour notice. If I had known that I would have OBVIOUSLY left a message. Again, I live OUT OF STATE, this is over an hour drive for me but I would happily make it for Dr. Heher, but this whole interaction was absolutly ridiculous. So disappointing.

A wonderful dentist. He is the first dentist I've ever had that has actually asked me what I liked and disliked about the dentist. When I expressed my concerns he gave me alternatives. I never knew going to the dentist could be almost stress free. Office staff and hygienist are very nice and accommodating. Very happy with my experience at this office.

Beware. Was patient for years. Just got overcharged for a teeth cleaning. $500.00!!! I don't have cavities and no problems with teeth. Huge inconvenience. I called to make an appointment for my gums hurting and get a teeth cleaning in June. Receptionist said I would do her a big favor if I would take the appointment that afternoon that I just canceled. So I did I move my day around to accommodate them. I really wanted my gums looked at. After an hour of getting my teeth clean she says well my time is up. I was told I had to schedule another appointment to get my teeth finished cleaning She only did the upper teeth??? Never once did Dr. Herer check my gums as That is why I went there. Could not get in again till end of August. Just got out of 2nd appointment. Took her almost 2 hours to clean my bottom teeth. Then she turns to me and asked do I need to do your upper teeth again because we've really gone over our time.? They act as if inconvenience them with my teeth. After paying 350.00 for first visit I was shocked they had they gall to charge me 150.00 more! I've been a patient for years. Not anymore. I can't afford to spend a half a grand to get my teeth cleaned and spent two days out of my week for them to do one teeth cleaning. Very upsetting.
