People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Since I opened my practice 15 years ago, I have always wanted to make people feel like they are welcome, from the moment they walk in the door.
Dr. Mary C. Trahar-Thomas grew up in Annapolis. And while she has travelled the world to pursue advanced degrees in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry, Annapolis will always be her home. Thats why, when she was ready to open her first orthodontic practice in 2004, she returned to Annapolis and launched Smiles by the Bay.
Dr. Mary C. Trahar-Thomas grew up in Annapolis and attended Saint Marys School. She graduated with her bachelors degree from The American University in Washington, D.C. and received her dental degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1996.
Following dental school, Dr. Trahar-Thomas was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. She attended a residency program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. before serving at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, where she supervised a pediatric dental clinic.
After serving with the Air Force, Dr. Trahar-Thomas attended a combined specialty program in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she published her clinical research paper on distraction osteogenesis in The American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

I am extrememly upset with smiles by the bay. I have tried for over a month now to get my son an appt for broken brackets with no luck. I tried 2 weeks ago to get him an appt because his wire was in the tissue of his jaw causing him pain. They said they had no appts in denton or kent Island. My son was in so much pain that he pulled his wires out. What choice did he have. I can not believe that a orthodontist group doesn't leave holes in their schedule for problems or emergencies that may arise.

Dr. Mary Trahar-Thomas is one of the kindest, best people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I appreciate how fiercely she protects her one-on-one time with each patient -- it makes me feel good that I'm not rushed through my appointment. As an orthodontist, she is clear and straightforward. When I had questions about braces and Invisalign, she was very patient in her explanation. I wanted to know if Invisalign could be used to treat an overbite, and how much braces would cost vs Invisalign. And she never once made me feel rushed or like I was asking a stupid question. Honestly, when I was looking for an orthodontist near me, that's what I most needed to know. I assume the results are going to be great. That's kind of the minimum expectation though, right? But knowing that my daughter is going to be treated well and with respect means a lot. Thank you so much for everything you've done for our family!!

My dentist was very nice. She has been my favorite of all that I have had. She is so sweet and hilarious. Everytime I have had her I was laughing and having fun.

The people are always so nice. Sometimes it does hurt when they change wires but that's expected. My smile is starting to get better. :)

Awful job on my permanent retainers. I called in to get my permanent retainer fixed since the glue was falling off on both edges. Not even 2 weeks later and their job was already coming off. I made another appointment to get it fixed yet again and the same thing happened.

Been taking my twins here for a while now. Up until yesterday, I've been very pleased with the work and staff. Yesterday, I was late getting the boys to their 10:05 appointment and started checking in around 10:13. The covid check in site wouldn't come up on my phone or the phone of boy number 1. Number 2 got it up and I started there. By the time I got them checked in it was 10:18. Then I get a call from someone in the office stating that it was too late and I would have to come back at 11:40. This is where I have an issue. I'm perfectly willing to take the new appointment since I was the one that was late. I didn't argue or anything. Yet, the staff member who called me was snippy and rude. She was also rude to my wife when they called to see where we were. I know some clients can be hard to deal with but we don't cause any trouble and don't deserve to be treated like this. This is the only place on the shore where my boys can get their braces worked on and we do what we need to in order to deal with it. We drive over an hour one way. I don't complain when we have to wait on the days when the boys don't go back on their appointment time. I own a business myself and we're all stressed. But this staff member shouldn't be dealing with clients if she can't get her temperment under control. It would also be nice if they spoke to me or my wife about the next appointment date and time and not the kids. The kids don't know anything about that and calling back to change appointment times can be a little frustrating. We love coming to you to get our work done and hope that these two issues can be addressed.
