The truth is, Dr. J. Rena Owsley-Brown became a dentist because she wanted to help her Fayetteville friends and neighbors find a healthy smile. Its why she opened Smiles by Design in the first place! We know that good health often starts in your mouth and we want to share that knowledge with you.
Our entire team works hard to provide individualized treatments, without the clinical feeling you might experience in some dental offices. We have a lot of fun here, both as a team and with our patients. It helps everyone feel comfortable and relaxed. But no matter how at ease we are, we are also organized and on time which means less waiting and more smiling.
We understand that you need more than comfort, fun, and a gentle touch. You want dental care that is as up-to-date and advanced as possible. We have that too! Our team is truly passionate about learning and we are always taking continuing education courses to stay on the leading edge in both technique and technology. We definitely think you are worth it!
She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Lexington in 1996. In addition to her schooling, Dr. Brown has additional education and training from the prestigious Dawson Academy in Florida.
She is also a member of the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, and the Southern Crescent Study Club, with certifications in both Invisalign and Oral Sedation therapy.
A Kentucky native, Dr. Brown is now proud to call Fayetteville home where she and her husband are raising their two sons, while staying active in their Atlanta church. Balancing an accomplished career and a very active family life has given Dr. Brown the wonderful ability to truly relate to her patients with warmth, kindness, and candor.
Were so pleased to have Diane as part of the Smiles by Design team. Shes been working in dentistry since 1985 and is extremely knowledgeable about how to help patients afford a healthy smile that will last a lifetime. Diane is a graduate of Ball State University and dental assisting school, with numerous hours of continuing education incorporating all aspects of dentistry. Working with patients on a regular basis allows Diane the ability to forge great relationships as she helps them enhance their oral health, and discusses possible financial options. The mouth is the doorway to your overall well being. The more we teach our patients about dental health, the healthier they will be. What does she love best? When a patient finally attains a new, confident smile thats truly priceless. Besides the great patients, Diane says her team makes coming to work each day truly enjoyable. She says the team is absolutely awesome and functions like a little extended family that works together to deliver optimal patient care. Outside the office this music lover is usually singing her heart out in the church choir or at home with family and friends.
Prior to attending hygiene school at Central Georgia Technical College, Charity was a dental assistant. As an integral part of the Smiles by Design squad, shes usually busy conducting oral cancer screenings, taking and developing x-rays, doing teeth cleanings, scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance, dental charting, and discussing the most effective dental hygiene strategies with our patients. My favorite thing about my job is helping my patients maintain a beautiful smile. I enjoy getting to know my patients on a personal level and establishing relationships with them and their families. She enjoys working at Smiles by Design because of the level of camaraderie that can be hard to find at other practices. The atmosphere of appreciation and respect makes every day at work enjoyable. Charity has been married for 10 years and has two sons. She enjoys spending time with family, going to the lake, horses, cats, and shopping.
Melba has a Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene from Medical College of Georgia and an Associates of Psychology from Atlanta Metropolitan College. She has been working in dentistry for 21 years.We are pleased to have this dental professional on our team. Like her fellow team members, she takes pride in getting to know each patient to better understand their individual needs. She delivers quality dental care with a gentle touch. Away from the office, Melba enjoys spendingtime with her family and friends.

I have been going to Dr. Brown for over 5 years always feel valued as a customer. I had to get a deep cleaning yesterday and the young lady that did it was Amazing! She made sure I was comfortable and was not in any pain. Very personable and answered all my questions.

I'm not a happy camper right now. I've been a dental patient here since 2018 and I have been satisfied to this point. However, my last visit was pretty disappointing. I am not happy with Dr. Brown right now and the way she handled me, the concerns I had, and my teeth cleaning. Here's what happened--I went in for my semi-annual cleaning. After the dental hygienist McKensie was done I ran my tongue over my teeth. I didn't feel the silky smoothness that I normally feel after a cleaning. I was expressing this to McKensie when Dr. Brown walked in. Right off she said, "I'm sure she a great job cleaning your teeth." She took a defensive stance to side with her employee before she even looked in my mouth instead of ensuring that I--her patient--was satisfied with the work performed. It got pretty tense in the room because I had other questions about my teeth. I have sensitivity in my teeth but I want to have them whitened. I wanted to know what options I have. During this exchange Dr. Brown was very curt and short with her answers. There was no real discussion as to what I could do. She pointed out that I have a cross-bite and chips and cracks (as if to say your mouth is messed-up) but simply dismissed my concerns with no explanation after telling me all of that! McKensie did however, attempt to make things better for me. She wanted to go over the areas I wasn't happy with. She tried but I just wasn't satisfied with her work and so I asked McKensie how long has she been doing this. She said, "Uh. . . a long time." Really?? How long is a long time? . . .smh. All relationships have ups and downs, this includes with doctors, stylist, etc. and I chalk this up to that. I haven't given up on this practice because I really want to remain a patient in support of a black woman owned practice. However, I will not pay good money and accept her dismissal of the concerns I have about my dental hygiene. This kind of treatment is unacceptable. There are many dental offices around here however; this is the practice I chose. If anything close to this happens again. I will find another office.

Great job, Smiles By Design! I went in for my routine cleaning, and as usually my hygienist, Charity, asked if I had any change in medications or problems. I said yes that I am having a problem with a tooth on the lower right side. She immediately took x-rays and brought the issue to Dr. Brown's attention. Dr. Brown put a plan into action to take care of my problem. I have no worries about my dental care. Dr. Brown and her staff continue to be the best!

I had my quarterly appointment this week at Smiles by Design in Fayetteville! My Dental Hygienist, Charity, did a great job as always! Dr. Rena Brown made an adjustment to my bite which alleviated the pain I was experiencing each time I chewed on my left side. Overall, it was a great visit! I highly recommend Dr. Brown and her team of professionals. They do a great job!

This was my first visit and I had a great experience. Everyone was professional, efficient and quite friendly. My hygienist, Cherie, is the best. Great job cleaning my teeth while I forming what I need to to keep my teeth and gum healthy. Will highly recommend to my family and friends
