Dr. Maria Axvig-Dwyer is an integrative dentist who is excited to continue her training in biological dentistry. She believes in a practice philosophy that seeks the safest, least toxic way to accomplish modern treatment while supporting whole-body wellness.
She is a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) and is SMART (safe mercury amalgam removal technique) certified. She enjoys integrating nutrition and supplements to support oral/total body health, and works closely with an established network of allied health professionals.
Dr. Axvig-Dwyer likes to provide patients with an esthetic alternative to braces using Invisalign, and finds great satisfaction when a patient finds a renewed sense of social confidence as an outcome of her treatment. She is also mindful of airway issues due to restrictive anatomy and seeks to provide orthodontic treatment that will not compromise the airway. She is passionate about diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea in both adults and children and is happy to be expanding her services in dental sleep medicine.
Dr. Axvig-Dwyer graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and joined her fathers growing practice, where she brings fresh enthusiasm and knowledge of the latest dental trends to compliment the practice. Outside of the office, Dr. Dwyer loves spending time with her husband and three active kids, and can often be found at the skating rink watching her hockey player or figure skaters. An avid supporter of humanitarian efforts to provide dentistry and opportunity to underdeveloped countries, she enjoys traveling with her family to Haiti where they are working to build a faith-based school, soccer academy, church, and dental/medical clinic in the rural community of Verrettes, Haiti.
After graduating from NDSCS in 1999 with her dental assisting certificate, Angie returned to her beloved hometown of Bismarck. Along with her husband and two beautiful children, Angie fully enjoys their shared outdoor activities, particularly fishing and boating. Her other highlights include reading and attending her kids many athletic events. Since 2010, Angie has loved meeting new people and welcoming them to Smiles by Design while playing a hands on role in restoring and maintaining beautiful smiles. With her patients as top priority, she uses her calm, kind and gentle approach to soothe any anxieties.
Laura has been assisting for 18 years, joining Smiles by Design in 2003. She loves spending time with her husband, two grown children, and two rescue dogs. She enjoys baking in her spare time. She grew up on a dairy farm south of Bismarck. Laura displays her ready smile and patient-focused care every day.
Kate grew up as a farm/ranch girl in NW North Dakota where she developed an appreciation for hard work and a passion for quality, values, and people. Upon graduating from USD in 1996, she married her hero John, a military veteran and firefighter and they made beautiful Bismarck their home. Kate has made teeth sparkle at Smiles by Design since 2008. An adored auntie to eight, she loves her golden retriever and enjoys gym classes, baking, biking, camping, and numerous other seasonal outdoor activities.
Kerry has worked for Smiles by Design for 35 years as a Dental Hygienist.She grew up in Bismarck and enjoys treating lifelong friends and many family members.Kerry is happily married to Melvin and they have two beautiful daughters. On her time off She enjoys golfing, travel,spending time with family and the outdoors
Jody is a registered Dental Hygienist and has been working at Smiles by Design for 18 years. As a hygienist, Jody enjoys working with a caring team to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere that ensures each patient the opportunity to achieve excellent oral health as well as enhancing their overall health. She strives to build relationships and gain the trust and confidence of her patients. In her free time, Jody loves being active and hitting the gym to participate in group fitness classes. She loves the outdoors and spending time with her son.
Tootie has been with Smiles By Design since 2015 but has been in the dental field over 25 years. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for 30 years. They have one son who is 26 and a 11 year old rescue puppy named Fiona. On her time off Tootie and her husband enjoy spending time in Colorado visiting their son and exploring new adventures there. She also enjoys boating, kayaking and fishing on the Missouri River in the summer. In the winter months she loves reading, cooking and shopping.
Nikki has been working as a patient coordinator for more than 20 years. The last year and a half shes been at Smiles by Design. Nikki was born and raised in Linton, North Dakota. She is happily married with two beautiful daughters, a great son in law, three beautiful grandchildren and a dog named Duke. On her off time Nikki enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, visiting her mom in the nursing home, golfing with her husband and taking walks. More than anything she loves working at Smiles by Design because of the relationships that she has made with her awesome coworkers and patients.
