As a recipient of the Colgate Palmolive Annie Elizabeth Bessie Delaney Scholarship Award, she entered the orthodontic residency program at Howard University where she received her specialty certificate in orthodontics and maxillofacial orthopedics.
Tired of the strictly clinical environments offered by many dental practices, she purchased her existing practice in Evanston, IL to offer quality, compassionate orthodontic care to all of her patients.
A southern girl at heart, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her beautiful daughter Kennedy! Together, they enjoy many outdoor activities including both skiing and water sports.
So it's no surprise that she is active in several service organizations dedicated to improving her community. Between motherhood, family commitments, and community service, Dr. Kim finds time to explore the world and an avid traveler.

Dr Smith is extremely thorough, focused on perfect results, and is always very friendly. She always took time to explain each step of the treatment and why it was necessary and what I could do to get the best results. My teeth are fantastic! They look and feel great. And the office environment and staff at Smile Suite are amazing - very friendly and fun.

*Update Post-Braces* After having braces for 18 months, I still love this office! My smile is better than I could imagined, and her estimate was 16-18 months, and I'm extra pleased that I finished in that timeframe. I had a lot of crowding, and she straightened that and she also did some teeth shaping. Whenever I had an issue (poking wires, or an issue with a bracket), she always got me in immediately to fix whatever was bothering me. My anxiety made me really worried about some things, and she was very reassuring and made sure that I got the care I needed. I got my braces off this week, and she scheduled a follow-up in six weeks to check on me and my retainers. If you are interested, I signed a waiver about sharing my photos, so you can ask for before/after pictures of my smile to see the great work Dr. Smith did!! The office staff and assistant (Byron) are also so wonderful. Despite my dental anxiety, I felt safe here. *Original Review* I actually haven't started treatment yet (waiting on new insurance info), but I wanted to go ahead and write a review because they are unbelievably kind and patient! I have been trying to switch insurance and that's taken a while and they're really patient. More importantly, I have MAJOR dental anxiety and I have emailed back and forth a bit and the orthodontist herself has answered my questions and concerns. I appreciate the 1-1 interactions and how thorough she is. She sent me an email Friday evening, off working hours, and it was long and detailed and I am BEYOND grateful for the reassurance. Whenever my insurance works out, I plan to start treatment here (if my anxiety lets me), and will update my review once treatment is done. This is the kindest office I have ever interacted with. I wish I could give a million stars.

My partner had a great experience with this orthodontics office. They were always available whenever she had any concerns or questions. She recently had her braces removed and her smile is beautiful! She's happy and that makes me happy. A wonderful office.

I am a periodontist in Charlotte. I had a patient that moved to the Chicago area last year and needed an orthodontist. I referred him to Dr. Mays (a colleague from dental school). The patient was in Charlotte for the holidays and had a maintenance appointment with me. The quality of her work was amazing! Knowing the difficulty of his case and remembering that, before moving, he was told "not to expect much" of the final result. The treatment planning and execution of this case and others (I have seen several pictures of her before and after cases), is top notch! Dr Mays has taken many courses beyond her residency to become an exceptional orthodontist!

Dr. Smith and her staff are so friendly and skilled. My 10 year-old actually loved getting braces with them and looks forward to every touch-up trip. We always feel so welcome and they even display the drawings she makes for them. The braces have made an unbelievable difference in her teeth (and surprisingly fast too!). I've been so impressed with every aspect of our visits to Smile Suite and Dr. Smith.
