Dr. Eileen Dano Calamia is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist who believes in establishing good, healthy oral hygiene habits at a very young age. Not only does she focus on providing a fun and caring atmosphere for a child during their dental visits, but she also highly values educating parents and soon to be parents about a well balanced diet and preventative care.
Dr. Calamia grew up in Orange County, California with her parents and two siblings. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of California, Irvine and then pursued her dreams of becoming a dentist at the New York University College of Dentistry.
Upon graduating from dental school, she expanded her training by attending a General Practice Residency at St. Josephs Regional Medical Center in New Jersey where she received an award for her outstanding dedication as a general resident. Dr. Calamia realized that her passion lies in making sure that children learned the importance of good oral health at a very young age. She then completed her residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City where she served as chief resident. Her goals are to make dental visits fun and educational for both parents and their children while addressing their dental needs.
Dr. Calamia currently lives in Long Island with her husband, Dr. Vincent Calamia, a general dentist practicing in NYC and Massapequa, NY, and their two daughters, Vienna and Gianna. On her spare time, Dr. Calamia enjoys Orangetheory Fitness, cooking, watching movies, and exploring new places with her family!
She was born in Romania and spent a year in Austria before calling Fresh Meadows, Queens her permanent home. She received her B.S. in Biology from St. Johns University in 2002 and attended Columbia University School of Dental Medicine to fulfill her dream of becoming a dentist. After receiving her D.D.S. from Columbia University, she completed a General Practice Residency at Montefiore Medical Center.
As a young child, Dr. Cristina did not have access to proper dental care which resulted in numerous procedures and visits to the dentist. Experiencing first-hand the stress and anxiety of these visits but having compassionate and knowledgeable dental providers, Dr. Cristina decided to pursue her dream and become a pediatric dentist. She attended Stony Brook University for her Pediatric Dental residency and completed her program in 2015 where she served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Cristina has enjoyed doing outreach missions with a Cleft, Lip and Palate team to help underserved children restore their confidence and smiles. She has also enjoyed speaking and educating children and parents about the importance of good oral health at local schools, library events and fairs in and around Westchester.
Dr. Cristina feels truly blessed for her tiny miracle who decided to arrive into this world 10 weeks earlier in July 2020. She loves taking him to the park and watching him develop and grow into a fun-loving little man!
Dr. Angel graduated from Amherst College with a major in Mathematics and decided to spend a year to teach English abroad before continuing on to dental school. She traveled to South Korea and taught Kindergarten for a full year. It was there that she realized her passion for working with children- theyre so full of love and deserve to be protected and cherished.
She went on to complete her dental training at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, with her heart set on pediatric dentistry. While she was getting her DDS, she simultaneously earned her Masters in Education from Columbia University Teachers College to further her passion for early education. Finally, she completed her two-year specialty pediatric dentistry training at Stony Brook University and served as Chief Resident.
In her free time, she loves to explore hiking trails with her fur baby, Tobi, and her husband, Dr. Kevin Lee MD, DDS an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon training at Columbia University. She also goes on mission trips to Guatemala to provide free dental care to those without access to dentistry. All children deserve a tooth fairy in their lives and Dr. Angel is so happy to be one!

The place is very clean. The whole staff from the front desk , dental assistant, hygienist , and the dentist was very friendly and professional. They explained everything while doing the work so we understand what is being done. Also made my kid feel very comfortable and safe and made sure he doesn't feel any pain. Thanks for making everything easier. Would definitely recommend.

sadly their attention to details of what is covered and not covered by insurance has dropped off, be careful to know what your insurer covers because most likely smile starters will not check and you will end up with a bill Its fabulous they give the AAPD recommended treatments as long as they tell you IN ADVANCE it will cost extra BEFORE they administer them, unless its an emergency, right?

This place is very welcoming. My daughter loves playing in the waiting room before the appointment. Everyone is very calm and patient with wiggly children. Highly recommend this office to everyone.

I am wholeheartedly giving Smile Starters 5 stars! I brought my 8-year-old here. He was scared and reluctant, but they were able to cheer him up. The clinic was clean and organized, everyone was upbeat and friendly, and my child said the cleaning was gentle. Thank you so much!

From the moment we walked in, we were amazed at the place. Everything & everyone was so bright & welcoming! We didn't have a long wait & each staff member- front desk, dental tech, hygienist, & dentist were friendly & able to interact with my child. Gladly giving a 5 star review.

My daughter who just recently turned 2 had her first appointment on Monday. Walking in I noticed right away how clean the office was and loved how it was so kid friendly! The staff up front were all very sweet and greeted us with a smile. Our appointment was at 1pm and we were taking in at 1pm....which was amazing! The Hygienist was so sweet with my daughter who was upset as soon as we walked into the office. She was so calm and patient with her and explaining everything and having her touch the tools that were going to be used, smelling the paste to clean her teeth. The Doctor came in after and was also so sweet and patient. (I wish I remembered names) I'm so happy we found this office and so beyond happy with the care that was given to my daughter. I already recommended to a few of my friends. We will see you all again in 6 months.

Amazing . The staff and place is remarkable. Warm front desk reception and spectacular waiting area. My child actually look forward to the wait. Some changes since the pandemic, but still inviting. Looking forward to resume the iPad station, hands-on activities , popcorn machine, coffee, tea and stocked water refrigerator. I love the option for side by side dentist chair for siblings. Kids look forward to the movie app on ceiling monitor as they recline. Fun for all. I actually enjoyed a luxurious full body massage chair while I wait for child. I initially thought it was a first timer reception but each child is given the ultimate attention for every visit. No long wait but prompt and focused attention to the child. Each child is given the traditional dental care goody bag with balloon attached. At checkout, child gets a token for toy surprise from vending machines. A real treat. On our last visit, mine announced that she has a tea party afterwards. She got extra balloons for the table and treats for guests. We love the personalized service. I highly recommend Smile Starters. All the children in my family go to Smile Starters.

Amazing experience! They took me in right away when all the other dentists would make me wait months. They did all my cavities in one visit and were very polite. Definitely the best dentist i've ever been to!

I brought my two young children (3 YO, 1 YO), and everyone we dealt with from the receptionist, to the dental hygienist, to the dentist, could not have been friendlier, more helpful, or good with my kids. There was also minimal waiting time, making our visit relatively quick.

My son saw the dentist for the first time! The staff and the dentist was great, very friendly and nice. She did explain me everything that is going on with his teeth and what we have to do. She was very very nice, I think her name was Angel and she was like an angel!

Amazing experience! Friendly staff and clean environment. The hygienist was clear and offerings suggestions and was walking us through each step. Kids haven't been to the dentist for a while due to COVID, this visit made the transition back to dental visits super comfortable. Can't wait until our next visit. Thanks for being so awesome! TV's on the ceiling, great distraction for squirming children.
