We love Pediatric Dentistry. Having the opportunity to work with children is priceless. Our team works alongside you and your child to allow them to explore and learn beyond the toothbrush to create a fun environment where children feel safe and can develop building blocks for a lifetime of healthy habits.
Our entire practice is designed to create a dental home for children and families to help guide them through exploration and education of their oral health and development. We work with your child to build a lifetime of positive attitudes towards dentistry while delivering safe, state-of-the-art treatment.
We (Dr. Leanna Shetler and Dr. Matt Dahar) were destined to be best friends. In fact, our Dads were best friends growing up. They played football together at University of Pittsburgh and were co-residents in Orthodontic Residency, as well. Our families were connected before we were even born. As we grew up together, we naturally became life-long friends.
Once we graduated high school, we both tried other paths but dentistry kept pulling us back. With such amazing examples in our lives of how you can love on and serve others through your God-given talents, the path was there for us. We grew up knowing firsthand what it meant to serve others with love and how quickly patients can become family.
So off we went! First dental school then we reunited at MUSC as co-residents, just like our Dads. Since then, we both found our forever home in the Upstate. Our families have grown since moving here, 2 boys each, and we love that we get to raise them in the beautiful city of Greenville. After a short time, it was a no-brainer. We wanted to start our own practice. One that does things a little different. From our roots, we wanted to have a local practice that is led by two lifelong friends who have the dental gene in their blood. We might be a little silly, and our jokes kind of corny at times, but above all, our goal is to provide excellent oral care and simply... to serve others all while having an absolute blast!
We promise to care for your child with the same gentleness and compassion that we give our own children. We only recommend and use techniques that we provide to our own family and always do what is right for each childs unique situation.
We are always evolving! Our doctors are both Board Certified Pediatric Dentists and have gone through a rigorous examination process with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and pursued an additional two years of education beyond dental school to be trained to serve children from infants through their teen years.
Only dentists that have completed a residency in pediatric dentistry can sit for the board certification examinations. Involvement in the certification process is a demonstration of our pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence.
At Smile Place, we believe in doing our part to serve the areas that we work and live in. When creating Smile Place, we felt that it was important for us to find a local organization for children and their families that exemplify courage, compassion, and hope. We are fortunate to help give to those in need through Clement's Kindness, a local non-profit that is dedicated to meeting the medical, emotional, and financial needs of Upstate families impacted by pediatric cancer.
We care about your children's futures. We want to leave a lasting impact not only on their dental health but on their world. We are constantly looking for ways to reduce waste and recycle. We reduce waste by using high-end materials and energy efficient appliances. We mindfully use recycled materials in the design and construction of our buildings as well.
As a pediatric dentist for over 40 years, I have seen the best of the best in our specialty. Dr. Matt is one of those best. He has the single most important quality needed to care for your child, heart. The kids in Greenville will be well served by this wonderful new practice and this fine young doctor.

Dr. Leanna is the best pediatric dentist in the Greenville area! She truly cares about each child in her care and has a special way of creating both a fun and relaxed atmosphere that kids can enjoy. Her knowledge and education shines through as she is always willing to talk to her patients about their dental care while setting time aside to address any questions that the child or parent may have. Dr. Leanna goes above and beyond for our kiddos and I am so thankful that I know that we have someone that genuinely cares about my childrens oral care.

My children love Dr. Matt and the team! They always make our experience comfortable and FUN! My oldest says "I love how they ask me questions and like the things I like." My youngest says, "I like playing those video games, the movies, and wearing the sunglasses" We love Smile Place!

My son & I had the pleasure of visiting this office instead of the Harrison bridge office . We were just as welcomed at this location , the staff was extremely friendly, patient, && informative.

Fabulous experience today with Dr. Matt. Although the appt was for my 18 month old daughter, Dr. Matt was able to win over my three year old son and now he is begging for his own appointment. The office was beautiful and had some super different experiences for the children while they waited. In fact, we ended up staying after the appointment just to play more! Dr. Matt listened and treated my daughter as if she was his own and I could not have asked for a better first time checkup:)

This place is the bomb!!! Take your kids here! I'm originally from Florida and I moved here last year, I was having the hardest time finding a place that my kiddos would enjoy and feel comfortable getting their teeth cleaned! My 6 year old needed a cleaning and also needed two teeth pulled. She had her big teeth growing behind her baby teeth. Anyway, Stephanie, Laura, Dr. Matt, their was one more person; I forgot her name they were truly amazing! I would definitely recommend to take your kiddos here! See for yourself, you will not be disappointed at all! I promise!

My son loves going to the dentist because everyone at Smile Place makes him feel comfortable. Dr Leanna and Dr Matt are both the best in town! We drive from Easley to see them and would never go anywhere else!!!

Today was our first visit with Smile Place. We switched my 5 year old from her old dentist and now are bringing our 18 month old. From the moment we came in, the staff was warm, friendly and patient. The hygienist was informative and talked me and my daughter through everything and what she saw. Dr Matt was so patient with my 18 month old, he got down on his level and was very soothing and kind before ever looking at either child's teeth. They were thorough but quick and did everything to make everyone comfortable. He and his staff truly know how to treat anxious children, first timers, and parents.

Smile Place has knowledgeable and caring staff. This is the only dentist my son (aged 3) has ever been to. We recently took our foster daughters (aged 9, 11, and 12) who had some bad experiences with a previous dentist. They were extremely nervous and scared. Dr. Matt, Stephanie, Laura, and Courtney all took their time with our girls and lovingly did what they needed to care for their teeth. They compassionately had tough conversations with us, so the girls could take charge of their tooth health. Our girls need further care and were thrilled to know that Dr. Matt could attend the OR with them. They feel safe and well cared for at this dentist which goes a long way! Thank you, Smile Place, for your above and beyond attitude!

We love Smile Place! I do not take for granted that my boys love going to the dentist! We've had a situation where my son is losing teeth slowly.. instead of rushing straight to "let's pull the teeth," Dr. Matt advised us to wait & see if he could lose the teeth on his own- a few times- and we ended up being able to lose the teeth on our own avoiding the extra dentist visit for teeth pulling & the cost. I appreciated that he advised us to "wait and see" rather than what would benefit his bottom line most. I fully trust his advice & recommendations. All staff members are friendly & pleasant...from the front desk, to our hygienist, Dr. Matt & check-out... a great experience all around! Thank you!

Smile Place is great with my daughter, she has anxiety and taking her to the dentist was a challenge at first, but they have made her feel safe and comfortable and she even likes to go now, Thanx Smile Place!!!
