It is a little blue pill. A sedative hypnotic pill called Triazolam that is in the same family as Valium. It is short acting, and half of it is used up by your body within 2 hours. It is the same medication that is prescribed hundreds of thousands of times a year by physicians as a very safe prescription sleeping aid. The drug enforcement administration has categorized it as a schedule IV substance, which means it is only one category higher than common aspirin. And, used for dental sedation there has never been a single case of a severe emergency using it in the dental office and there has never ever been a death using this medication in a dental office either. I emphasize, this medication is very, very safe. Again, this medication does not produce a deep sedation or general anesthesia.

Yes, there are two. First, some people get the hiccups.which usually only last a few minutes. And second, your mouth will become dry. But, if you do have one of these side effects you wont even remember having it.

Some people have difficulty getting numb at the dentist, and want to know how sedation dentistry will benefit them. Well, sedation dentistry helps a lot. Patients who are hard to get numb are much more responsive to getting numb when they are sedated.

Dr. Nazirs family includes 6 dentists who served as inspiration to continue the family tradition. After graduating dental school in 1988, Dr. Nazir completed the 3-year masters program at the famed Eastman Dental Institute in London. He then devoted another 2 1/2 years of training to be licensed to practice in the United States. Today, he maintains his knowledge by training in the latest advances as they happen (above and beyond what is required by the state board). He is a member of the AACD, OCDS, CDA and ADA. From 1998 until establishing Smile Magic, Dr. Nazir provided dental service as an associate. His years of experience and exposure to varied dentistry methods have culminated in a fine-tuned, patient-centric practice. It is a practice quite unique in the U.S.one with Eastern sensibility joined with Western technology and facilities. In fact, Dr. Nazir has been called the Deepak Chopra of dentistry.

Originally , I was born and raised in Upstate New York (Rome). I attended University of Buffalo in New York my Freshman year in college. Re-located to California summer of 1977. I worked and attended Cal Sate Fullerton. I received a bachelors degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Next, I went to UCLA Dental School from 1981-1985. I then re-located to Orange County and worked one year as an associate in private practice. After promising myself to start my own practice after one year from graduation, I began my own private practice in Santa Ana. I worked in that practice for the next twenty years. I decided to move closer to home, so in 2005 I re-located my practice to Newport Beach. My next adventure is to join practice with Dr Nazir. I am excited and looking forward to this new adventure. This move will enhance my current practice by expanding hours and offering a much broader spectrum of services.

However, the accomplishments I am most proud of are my five children. Family is the most important part of my life. They give all my other accomplishments much more meaning. I promise to treat every patient as though I am treating myself and my own Family. Whenever I am treatment planning a patient that does not have clear cut treatment options, the question I always ask myself is : What would I do if it were me in the chair? At that point, the suggested line of treatment usually becomes much clearer. I look forward to seeing everyone in our new office.

Dr. Campbell is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. In addition to her private practice, she has been an instructor at the School of Dentistry and an Attending Dentist in Dental Research at the Long Beach VA Hospital. For many years she served as a National Spokesperson for the American Dental Association, appearing on radio and TV shows to talk about dental care. Dr. Campbell has been very active in the profession of dentistry and has received many honors and awards.
