It is deeply rewarding to be an orthodontist. I get to be part of peoples lives at an exciting time, seeing each person gain comfort in their appearance and watching their confident personality emerge.
That transformation happens regardless of the persons age: children grow into social and happy teens, teens mature into confident young adults, and my adult patients are thrilled to finally have straight, healthy teeth and a smile they love.
Originally from Salem, New Hampshire, I attended the University of New Hampshire, Durham for my undergraduate degree and Tufts Dental School for my Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). My wife, endodontist Dr. Christina Penn, and I met at Tufts.
Orthodontics is a constantly advancing specialty. Ongoing research leads to new technologies, techniques, and materials, which improve the patient experience and outcome. As an orthodontist, it is my responsibility to stay current on the latest innovations, along with emerging trends and research, in order to provide patients with the highest-quality care.
I am an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association. Through these organizations, I have access to numerous continuing education opportunities, including meetings, seminars, lectures, and refereed journals. I am also a member of the Seattle and Spear study clubs, which allow me to learn from leading practitioners and my peers.
If Im not at Smile Hero Orthodontics, Im probably spending time with my wife and our young daughter. Were likely looking for the next great restaurant to enjoy or a new hill to hike! We also enjoy time with our family, including my parents and my brother and his fiance.

Following the initial exam, Dr. Chris will create your unique treatment plan. In designing the plan, he considers all aspects of your life, in addition to the orthodontic concerns. Hell then walk you through the approach, explaining what he recommends, as well as alternative treatments. He and the team will also present the financial aspects of care, disclosing all fees upfront, reviewing insurance and your financial responsibilities.
The day treatment is finished, the day your new smile is revealed? Well be celebrating with you! And when we run into you in the community? Well be thrilled to learn where youve taken that beautifully healthy and radiant smile the smile we achieved by working together!

Dr. Chris is the best!!! We went to him for a second opinion because our original treatment plan was crazy. He came in with a plan that made us feel so much better about my kids teeth. His office staff is so friendly and make my kids feel very comfortable. I now have 2 kids in braces and he has 100% worked to make my payments fit my budget. Best ortho ever!!

My daughter was seeing Dr.Cain for a couple of years and then he retired and Dr.Chris took over. We weren't sure how it was going to work but it turned out to being a great change. Her smile is just gorgeous. I now have my braces on (38 years old) and for years my teeth have been something I hid and wasn't comfortable with showing. Dr.Chris and his whole staff are wonderful and nice. Made me feel comfortable and at ease with the process. They are caring and they listen to all of your concerns. I recommend anyone to this orthodontist.

Amazing service! I took my daughter here after her dentist discovered she had a molar growing sideways. Entire staff was friendly, welcoming, and happy. Not only did she get a same day appointment, she also got her braces the same day. Thank you.

Dr. Chris and the team at Smile Hero are fantastic! The front desk staff and the assistants are all very friendly and helpful. I really didn't want to get braces as an adult, but everyone at the office definitely made my experience a positive one. I highly recommend this office!

I always look forward to my visit to Smile Hero! Juan is my favorite tech and it always feels like catching up with a friend, Juan is also wonderful at his job and always makes me feel comfortable. The front desk staff is always friendly and Dr. Chris? Dr. Chris is amazing, he always addresses my concerns and recommends not what is best or easiest for them but what is best for my teeth and overall treatment. I would highly recommend Smile Hero no matter your age!
