Dr. Pavel is originally from Romania, where he graduated from medical school in Cluj-Napoca, a picturesque old Transylvanian city. After graduation he worked as an internist for a short time in Sinaia, Romania and 1986 he moved to America to advance his education.
He received his degree as a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loyola University of Chicago. Upon achieving his degree, he also worked as a teaching assistant in the histology department. Dr. Pavel is a Board Certified General Dentist and a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and Chicago Dental Society.
As an active member of organized dentistry, he was President of the North Side Branch in 2003-2004, also he served as Director of North Side Branch of Chicago Dental Society from 2013-2015 and is always proud to volunteer every year for the Chicago Midwinter Meeting- one of the top dental meeting in the world. Along with dentistry, one of Dr. Pavel passions is making wine.
He is an active member of The American Wine Society, and has received several prize medals over the years from international amateur wine competitions. Dr Pavel and his wife Cristina reside in Skokie.
He is an active member of the Chicago Dentist Society and he enjoys traveling, snowboarding, boxing, soccer, spending time with his family, and yoga. Hes also a yoga instructor at at Yoga Six downtown!
He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of multiple professional organizations. Dr. Zickmann is one of the founders of the Blue Sky Bio implant systems. He holds two US patent and has multiple other patents in the field of implant dentistry.

Well, If you are looking for the best then look no further. I would say give Chris a chance to treat your teeth and do his magic! As a Dentist he is excellent professional! As a person he is very down to earth and best manners I have seen in my career. My experience at Smile First was extremely pleasant from the moment I walked in. Julie was very nice and accommodating. She verified my insurance prior to my first visit and then called me to let me know about my plan beforehand. I met Dr. Chris as I was reclined in the chair. He was very thorough and took a genuine interest in my past dental experiences/history and my goals for future care. I was very impressed when he sat down to perform my actual cleaning, completing all except for the flossing and polishing. Talk about first impression! We discussed my current retainers, how they fit and possible alternatives. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Chris and his office. Kudos!
