I've seen a number of dentists and hygienists in my life, but Anna and her Team are above and beyond your usual dental professionalism. Preventative and corrective care is out of this word. Front desk staff is amazing, they'll comfort you before and after an appointment. They'll make your you're on track, insurance/payment questions and concerns are taken care of. They're not your usual "dental clinic", they're truly SMILE DESIGNERS!

The front desk staff treated me kindly as did the support staff the RDH and dental assistants. They did everything they could to keep me comfortable. As a healthcare professional I try to be objective in writing reviews of medical offices. I have severe anxiety when it comes to the dentist. This is dated all the way back to when I was a child. I am also on the autism spectrum so there are some triggers and sensations that will always be intense. My tolerance does vary depending on my mood. I am willing to try anything once, however after an atrocious experience as I had on my second visit, I will make an exception to that rule. I had felt pressured on my first visit to do bite-wing X-rays. I had already gone through that with Kaiser. I gave it an honest try, tried my hardest to hold down my gag reflex but even with numbing spray as soon as something presses against my tongue I gag. I don't know how to "reduce it" it's just an innate response. One I do not even always see coming. I have trouble with thoroughly brushing my teeth because of this but I was put in effort and have recently incorporated mouth wash to assist. For the second time I had to provide dental X-rays since Kaiser's didn't get transferred. The staff kept insisting on Dr. Anna's orders to try all of these different instruments to get an X-ray in lieu of bitewings. I felt extremely uncomfortable with that process as I gagged through out, but one procedure after another failed. I even tried nitrous but it too failed. I appreciated them trying to accommodate but that should have told them why sedation was necessary. When I informed Anna of this, she said "There will be no needles, there are no cavities, there may have been one, I wasn't there but I will provide sealants and use lasers to fill in the deep groves in your teeth." I thought that was odd for one dentist to say I had 5 cavities and another that I had zero. This already gave me a bad feeling. Maybe it was a language barrier but that is verbatim what I heard. At the second visit today, I was informed that the appointment would take two hours. This worried me. I did not think that I could sit through that amount of time. I had been asked by Anna last time to "keep an open mind". I have a natural inclination to please. So against my better judgement I gave them a chance. Not even a few seconds in I began gagging when the handle of an instrument pressed against my tongue. I then asked for nitrous. About 30 minutes was spent in total trying to relax me. About 15 minutes in I allowed the hygenist to retry again. I felt the same sensation and decided it was time to stop. I did not have the energy to keep going. Anna had told me at the last visit that if I tried nitrous and kept "an open mind" about things that if this didn't work then I could say "I told you so". I trusted her word on that. She did not hold up that end and stated that my teeth will fall out by 40 and that I would have to wait to be in pain in order to justify sedation dentistry. There is literally a whole industry of dentistry for people like myself. I have had 3 major surgeries where I was totally sedated, intubation and all and did not have any issues. I had my wisdom teeth removed via twilight sedation. The whole reason the VA referred me to this care provider was because it had been professionally determined by others that me having several cavities and needing a scaling cleaning necessitated this to get done. I am only able to focus on now and not what I will do 6 months from now. This has set me back and I will feel anxious and defensive with whoever I meet next because I will wonder if they will truly help me in the way I need or if they will tell me taking a benzo will calm me down. I take medication for my anxiety and it isn't too far out there to think that I could have break through anxiety from this experience, which worsens my gag reflex. I will not give up on my dental treatment. But I know after many bad experiences what it is that I need not what others think I need.

I have a lot of health issues that impact dental work, anxiety & increased nerve pain being the worst, but Dr. Anna & the crew are the best. They're passionate, considerate & reassuring. They communicate on a level I've never found at a dentist office before. My teeth haven't looked or felt better, than after a few trips to Smile Designers. This is my Dental Fam & I don't see leaving them anytime soon! Also, for veterans out there, they are a part of the community care referral program through the VA! Edit: I just received an email from my dentist wishing me a Happy Birthday & I am blown away. I've never had a dentist this thoughtful & considerate!

Sadly this place my boyfriend and I had been referred too, we thought that it was going to be a really great place...every appointment so far between my boyfriend and I they have been 15-30 min late getting us back... this time, not only were they 20 min late getting me back but they're using an oil defuser in their office..... for a work place.... This seems like a poor idea for people who have a sensitively to smell.... Especially for a pregnant person such as myself. I drove 30 min already in a nauseated state, just to be called in late and ultimately have to reschedule due to not being able to tolerate the smell in there... not happy at all about this considering I wasted 1.5 hours pregnant with a 6 month old at home..... not going here again....

I am a health and wellness consultant in Gresham and I highly recommend the excellence of Smile Designers, the friendly and professional staff, and Dr. Anna who is very knowledgeable, caring, and skilled. The dental work is consistently excellent and I love the infrared camera which can see right into the tooth. I recommend this office especially to those who desire mercury free dentistry. I am moving and I wish I could take this whole office with me! You are the best, Smile Designers!!

A family member recommended me to Smile Designers about five years ago and I've been so impressed with the quality of care from Dr. Anna and her caring, professional team. I'm a busy mom and they help keep my entire family on track with preventative care, any dental needs, and are happy to answer all of my questions. Preventing cavities is extremely important in our family and we want our children to start off with excellent care so they may have healthy teeth in adulthood. I've had many dental procedures and experiences over the years, and this the first time I can honestly say that "it didn't hurt." I've felt minimal pain during my fillings and crowns. If you are looking for EXCELLENT care for you or your entire this is the place!
