Dr. G received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Texas Health and Science Center San Antonio Dental School. His passionate interest in and dedication to dentistry motivated him to continue his studies through rigorous, advanced surgical and cosmetic training at many prestigious and well known international and US-based institutions.
These educational achievements, as well as his notable patient-focused practice, has garnered Dr. Gutierrez numerous awards and recognitions. These include a Fellowship by the German Society of Oral Implantology through the International Congress of Oral Implantologists in Berlin, Germany. He is also a pioneer in bringing Plasma Rich Growth Factors dental biologic technology to Texas and was the first to utilize this technique in Houston. For introducing this advancement in the practice of dentistry to Texas and Houston, he was recognized by the Endoret BioTechnology Institute Center.
In addition to this excellent educational background, Dr. Gutierrez understands that top quality dental care goes hand in hand with patient comfort. This understanding led Dr. Gutierrez to pursue and complete a mini-residency in intravenous and oral sedation training.
This interdisciplinary background and training allows Dr. Gutierrez to bring to his practice a multitude of dental specialties including periodontal surgery (gum grafting), implant surgery, osseous grafting, prosthodontics, orthodontic as an Invisalign provider, esthetic dentistry, and much more. This broad and deep training reassures patients they are in good, skilled, and caring hands.
Even though Dr. Gutierrez has accumulated more than 1000 hours of continuing education from around the world, he believes in the importance of staying current with the advancements in dental technologies and procedures. As a result of his efforts, Smile Artisans provides advanced dental procedures using some of the latest high-tech tools and equipment. He has also been selected as a Key Opinion Leader and faculty for several well-known international institutions including BEYOND DIGITAL SOLUTIONS, Pascal International, Live Implant Training Institute, Institute of Houston Dental Synergy and more.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Gutierrez enjoys photography & traveling the world. In particular, he enjoys seeing the world with family and friends, exploring new destinations, growing spiritually through unfamiliar cultural experiences, and enjoying international cuisine. He is committed to his family, which brings structure to his life and inspires a strong work ethic. His wife, Dr. Liza Shevchenko is a board-certified orthodontist in addition to being an excellent life partner and mother to their daughters.
first step in her professional career was graduating with honors from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She then received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas Dental School in Houston. At the top of her class, she received her degree with honors and was recognized by the university as an outstanding graduate.
Building on her list of achievements in education and research, she was accepted into an orthodontic residency at The University of Texas Dental School. She subsequently earned her Master of Science degree and certificate in orthodontics. Dr. Shevchenko later completed a rigorous examination to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, the highest level achievable in education, evaluation, specialized excellent, and ethics. These accomplishments reflect her ongoing commitment to continuing education and professional excellence.
Dr. Shevchenko shares a passion for dentistry with her husband, Dr. Gutierrez, with whom she sees patients at their dental practice, the Smile Artisans. When not practicing orthodontics, she loves spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys world travel and learning from many different cultures.
Dr. Shevchenko is an orthodontic specialist following the highest standards of patient care using the latest cutting-edge technologies. Her goal is to build longterm, mutually rewarding doctor-patient relationships by being both responsive to each patients needs and ensuring each patient understands their treatments.
Dr. Garza attended Texas A&M Health Science Center, Baylor College of Dentistry to obtain a DDS degree. While in dental school, he served as president of his dental school class. He also was recognized with awards such as:
After dental school, he attended The University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center for a Certificate in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Certificate in General Surgery. He trained for 6 years in the prestigious Texas Medical Center. While in his Oral Surgery residency he obtained his medical degree at McGovern Medical School. Dr. Garza is board certified in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Garza enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and is expecting another girl soon. He is very close to his brother and sister, who both practice dentistry. He loves to play tennis, which he played in college for NCAA Division I Tennis programs

For my first time visit. I am not a person who is comfortable go to the dentist. I felt very comfortable and cared for. I feel like this a welcoming dentist. The dentist made me feel relaxed. I feel like my concerns were heard and questions were being answered. I am hoping this to be my answer to my smile to be returned to me. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Smile Artisans provides a top-notched dental experience. Dr. Gutierrez is a master at his craft, Dr. S is a talented orthodontist, Sheri, the hygienist, is the best, Maria at the front desk and all the dental assistants are an absolute delight. The care provided to the patient is second to none. Unfortunately, I've had the pleasure of visiting a number of dentists over the years , but my search is over. My best experience ever with a dentist. I was recommendes by my close friends to see Dr. Gutierrez as a second opinion. As soon as I came in to the Smile Artisans dentistry, I realized that I am at the place. The staff is perfectly friendly and attentive. The office itself is the state-of-the-art and super clean and neat. And the most important, I have received an exellent consultation that later has lead to a surgical procedure done by Dr. Gutierrez. It was my best ever experience related to an oral surgery. Doctor did such a fantastic job on me that I felt no pain after surgery, I did not have any swalleness or bruiz in a place of extracted tooth. Moreover, during procedure I was always controlled by doctor and assisstant for the pain or any discomfort. I have never imagined that the oral surgery such as the placement of tooth implant could be so painless for me. So, I highly recommend Dr. Gutierrez as a very professional dentist who you can absolutely trust!!

Absolutely professional doctors and staff! I have done two surgeries with Dr.Gutierrez and braces with Dr.Shevchenko. Also, the cleaning was amazing with their current Hygienist. I am very satisfied with my result and I am happy that I found this dental practice. So I have a reliable and trustable dentists group.

We love Smile Artisans! Both my kids have had or have their braces here, I had a wisdom tooth extracted, my husband has had his teeth whitened and a chipped tooth fixed. Both Dr. G. and Dr. S. are amazing! Maria is incredibly helpful and so pleasant to interact with.

Great first impression at Smile Artisans today! New patient consultant for orthodontic treatment. Dr. Liza quickly established I'm a good candidate for Spark Aligners, they were even able to get all of my scans and photos completed today! Now I'm just waiting for them to come in (should be about a month). Can't wait to get started and love my smile again!
