Dr. Prospero Matos was born in New York before relocating to the Dominican Republic at an early age. There he received his Bachelors in Dental Sciences from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in 1998. He was later accepted into the New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) advanced placement program for foreign-trained dentists and graduated with his DDS in 2011. Dr. Matos practiced dentistry in New Jersey from 2011-2014, then relocated to Texas with his wife Lela.
Dr. Matos decided from a young age that he wanted to become a dentist due to his experiences with his own caring and patient dentist. He says, As a child, I remember thinking that the sight of my panoramic radiograph on the old view box with all of the crazy jumbled up teeth was the coolest thing ever.
As a practitioner, Dr. Matos most enjoys seeing a patient regain self-confidence by being able to smile fully. He combines the latest state-of-the-art technology to provide patients with a thorough and caring examination to meet each patients needs and wants.
Dr. Matos is a recipient of the Dr. Bernard E. Rudner Memorial Award for clinical excellence from NYUCD. He maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Texas Dental Association, and Hispanic Dental Association. In addition, Dr. Matos has participated in dental outreach programs, serving people in need in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Mexico.
Dr. Lela was born andraised on a farm in Bay City, TX, with her parents and older sister. As a young girl, she spent countless hours in her grandfathers orthodontic office and knew from a young age that she wanted to follow in his footsteps, practicing in the field of dentistry.
Dr. Lela attended Austin College in Sherman, TX, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Biology. She received her degree in dentistry at New York University College of Dentistry. After dental school, she spent two years at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) in Staten Island, NY, as a General Practice Resident and served as Chief Resident her second year. She completed her 2-year postgraduate education in Pediatric Dentistry at SIUH under the direction of Dr. Steven Schwartz, a pioneer in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Lelas comprehensive training at SIUH makes her well-trained in handling dental needs among patients of a wide range of ages and medical issues.
While at NYU College of Dentistry, she was invited to attend an Outreach Program in the Dominican Republic where she provided much-needed dental care to people that otherwise did not have access. Since finishing her pediatric training, she has been invited back by NYU to serve as faculty on their Outreach Programs to Nicaragua, Mexico, and Nepal. Being able to provide this type of service for those in need is on the top of her list of things that make her happiest.
Rachel received her Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene from UT Health San Antonio and has been a team member at Smile Advanced Dental Care ever since. She is CPR certified and takes 12-plus hours of continuing education a year. In 2017, New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung readers voted her Best Dental Hygienist. She enjoys getting to know patients and helping educate them about oral health and taking care of their teeth at home.
Away from our New Braunfels, TX dentist office, her interests include spending time with family and friends, participating in Bible study and worship at church, volunteering in the community, running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and yoga. A self-proclaimed foodie, she also likes trying new foods.
With more than 35 years of experience as a front desk coordinator and registered dental assistant, Diane greets every patient with a smile. She believes that dentistry chose her as she grew up without having her dental needs met. Diane understands the fears some patients may experience when visiting the dentist, so she strives to create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere in the office. She believes in caring for her patients as she would want to be cared for.
Diane is a mother of two wonderful children and grandmother to her athlete grandson. She loves the sun and sitting anywhere near a body of water. Diane has also been a part of dental missions trips to Honduras and Haiti.

Dr. Matos and his staff have created a very welcoming environment. I am new to the area and recently had my second visit to Smile Advanced Dental Care. I am extremely satisfied not just by the level of professionalism but also the friendliness that surrounds you as you walk in. My cleaning was extremely thorough but somehow it seemed like it was just a sit down chat session with an old friend. I was then provided an opportunity to have my questions answered and concerns addressed. Amazing care and attention!! I will be back for all my future dental care needs.

I have been going to SMILE for about 8 years now and love the entire staff. They are very friendly and always work to fit me in with times that work with my schedule. They do great work on my teeth (shout out to my hygienist Rachel) and Dr. Matos has been great. The front desk staff is so sweet! I always recommend them when people ask for a dentist office in town!

I have been seeing Dr Matos and his staff since he acquired the practice from my former dentist. The office is bright and cheerful, the staff is pleasant and efficient, and I gave utmost confidence in the professionalism of Dr. M and my hygienist, Rachel. They are really nice people to boot! Highly recommend.

Dr. Matos is a fantastic dentist. I have had extensive work done and he is knowledgeable and extremely patient. He takes the necessary time to answer all of my questions and never makes me feel rushed. I have had to have a few urgent visits and I have always been able to get in right away. His staff is friendly and professional. They work diligently to get you the care you need.

My boyfriend and I chose Smile Advanced Dental because of their amazing reviews. With him having some dental anxieties, and myself coming from the dental field, I had certain expectations for the office. I'm happy to say they exceeded that baseline. A clean office- everywhere, friendly faces to greet you, and personable conversation with many of the staff- special thanks to Robert. Not to mention the cleaning procedure done by the very nice Tacey who was efficient, sterile, and attentive to her patient's anxieties. Dr. Matos was stellar, he now has one more patient who is willing to put their anxieties aside to continue treatment with him and his lovely team. Leaving the appointment, Dianne up front was kind and informative, greeting us with a smile you can see through a mask, and giving us all we needed for our departure. Until next time! Thank y'all.

Let me start by saying that I have terrible dental anxiety and was not looking forward to my visit. I explained my dental anxiety and was overwhelmed with how accommodating Dr. Matos and his staff were about it. We've moved a lot so we've had several different dentist and this is by far the best dental office and staff. Everyone is friendly, polite and their dental work is amazing! Highly recommended if you're looking for a new dentist!!
