The Southtown Council and Foundation awarded Sloop Dental Co., with the 2017 Southtown Up and Comers award. The award recognizes new businesses and investments that make a splash and help improve our Kansas City community, specifically in Waldo, Brookside, and Southtown.
When Jackie found an opportunity to work within walking distance of home, she grabbed it. In September 2015, Jackie took over Dr. Throckmortons 30-year practice. The residential structure, constructed in 1925, had been converted to an office in the 1980s. With the last major renovations completed decades ago, the property needed a refresh. As a local resident, Jackie was mindful of balancing commercial use with residential neighborhood values. Renovations (including a lot of sweat equity by she and her husband, Michael) have included re-painting and staining the building, improvements to the entry, redoing the landscaping, and working with Bike Walk Kansas City to install custom Sloop Dental bike racks. A host of interior renovations were also made to make the space welcoming, functional and kid-friendly. The resulting improvements showcase the practice while preserving the residential character of the building.
Bamboo Toothbrushes: When you leave your cleaning, youll walk away with a beautiful toothbrush carved from a single piece of naturally grown Moso bamboo. Our toothbrushes contain no toxins, glues, or paints. All ink used on the packaging is soy based and the packaging itself is made from recycled materials that are (re)recyclable.
Compost Bin: Weve partnered with KC Can Compost to compost organic material from our office, diverting waste and helping the environment. KC Can Compost is committed to creating jobs for formerly homeless men and women and exposing the injustices that exist in low-income and communities of color. Bring in your used bamboo toothbrush and compost with us!
Biodegradable Floss: Forget plastic floss, stored in plastic waste. We give all of our patients eco-friendly, silk floss made from just 3 ingredients: Natural silk, beeswax and organic mint leaf. Better yet, its stored in a plant-based shell that doubles as the dispenser.
Bicycle Parking: When Dr. Sloop started Sloop Dental Co. in 2016, there was one thing she knew we needed: bicycle parking. She partnered with BikeWalkKC to create our iconic tooth-shaped bike racks and today we encourage all of our patients to ride their bike to our office!
e-Bike Hub: Beyond bicycle parking, we are a Ride KC Bike Electric Assist Smart e-Bike hub! We have partnered with BikeWalkKC, Drop Mobility and RideKC to offer a place to check-out and drop-off the electric-assist bikes, perfect for that little extra boost on hills.

I can't recommend Sloop Dental Co. enough. The whole team is kind and funny. They will make you feel at ease, listened to and cared for, whether you're getting a cleaning, have insurance questions or are there for something more serious. Dr. Sloop is amazing and will inspire you to do a little good in the world. Full disclosure - they are a client, but this review is 100% mine.

I went in for my 1st new patient appointment last week and everything was perfect! Angi and Dr. Sloop were in Chiefs gear, they were both so friendly and nice and I'm excited to go back in 6 months. The office has a very homey and comfortable feel and with how welcoming everyone is you feel like family.

Can't say enough good things about the team at Sloop! They are caring, amazing professionals - I've always had severe dental anxiety but everyone at the office is so accomodating and friendly they put me right at ease. Extra special shout out to Angie and Brad who had me laughing during my deep cleaning! Highly recommend this dentist.

Love going to see Angie and Dr Sloop. They are so fun and nice. The office provides a very comfortable environment and I was blown away with all the measures they have taken to help minimize covid. My teeth always feel amazing when i leave and they aren't too judgy that I don't floss as much as i probably should.

This is a wonderful Dental office! Everyone is so kind and caring. My hygienist Carolyn and Dr. Sloop are amazing and very knowledgeable of what they are doing. I have been looking for a Dentist that cares about there patients and have found it. You will not be disappointed. I haven't had a dental deep cleaning like I had yesterday in years, very thorough. I thank God I found Sloop Dental!!!
