I feel absolutely blessed to be an orthodontist! How amazing is it that I can serve patients of all ages and be their partner on a path that leads to a healthy, confident smile? Ive seen the difference a beautiful smile can make for a young child whos embarrassed to smile for school pictures, or adults who cover their mouth when speaking because they are uncomfortable about the appearance of their teeth. I know that the smiles we create together can truly transform the way a child or an adult interacts with the world at large!
I received my Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where I was awarded my Doctorate in Dental Surgery. I continued my educational path with an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency as part of my four years of service in the U.S. Navy as a dental officer.
I am a staunch believer that every professional, no matter what their field, owes it to themselves and those they serve to stay abreast of developments in their respective specialty. Seeking the best training and education always has been, and always will be, my priority, so I am confident that I am providing the most appropriate, effective, and advanced care for my patients.
When Im not caring for my patients, you might find me practicing yoga, walkingmy dog, or trying new recipes. I also try to soak in some of this wonderful Florida sunshine and enjoy the scenic waters of Charlotte Harbor in some way!
Personally, I am passionate about supporting our local community through organizations like Girls on the Run and partnerships with our schools. I realize that my profession allows me to interact with our youth during some of their most formative years, and I hope that I am a positive role model for these bright and enthusiastic minds especially the young women who might also want to become a dentist or orthodontist one day!

I have been married for more than 25 years. My husband and I like to be outdoors fishing, boating, and kayaking. I have two older children, with whom I love to spend time. Any other free moments are spent running, reading, or relaxing on the beach with a glass of wine.
I completed my Expanded Functions Dental Assistant training in 2015 and have been working in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics ever since! Some of my most favorite memories were made visting local elementary schools to teach the importance of dental health. As an orthodontic assistant, I love creating the transformationfrom #day1 to #dayDONE and getting to know each unique patient personally. It's awesome to see confidence grow as a beautifulsmile is created!
I graduated from Charlotte Techical College in 2011 as an ExpandedFunctions Dental Assistant, and shortly after achieved a personal goal of successfully completing the Dental Assisting National Boards. I take great pride inmy active role of creating beautiful, confident smiles with Dr. Maura - it's truly amazing to see the transformationfrom #Day1 to #DayDone for each patient!! I also had braces myself as an adult, and that helps me personally relate and guide our patients through their orthodontic journey!

There is truly nothing negative to say about this office! From the front desk to the back offices, all of the staff are welcoming, patient and understanding. The office is impeccable. The quality of care is outstanding. I have taken both of my kids for braces and have always received great care. I would highly recommend Slacks Orthodontist to everyone I know.

Want to have a perfect smile and a good time in the process? Take the time to contact Dr. Maura and her team. You won't be disappointed! Slack Orthodontics is an A+++++ for sure! The work is stellar - Dr. Maura is an artist! How she worked her talent on my toothy mess is beyond me. ;-) Dr. Maura is also involved in our community. She supports programs like Girls on the Run. Not only will she sponsor events, but she's present as well (like helping at the Girls on the Run 5K). She sponsors events at my school yearly as well! The Slack Team is efficient, friendly, enthusiastic, and motivated. Faith always greets you with a warm welcome and handles all of your needs quickly and efficiently. I remember being really nervous the first day and she was super calming. Denya will coordinate your treatment. She is super thorough explaining the process, treatment and payment options. I felt welcomed and confident during my consultation. Logan and Sarah have both worked their magic on my teeth as well. They're patient and fun. They're easy to talk to and seem super happy all the time! I also appreciated how they were patient with me and helped with my rubber bands. I don't have steady hands, so they were super accommodating! As an adult getting braces, one of the aspects of Slack that I LOVE is how accommodating the team is with hours. I was unable to take time off for work for appointments and being super involved with my school, it was difficult to squeak in appointments during the week. They always scheduled me for Saturdays. So accommodating and convenient!!! There is always something fun going on too. Fun and free shirts, prizes, chances to win, and dress up days. The office is also very clean, tidy, and comfortable. There are iPads available for children to play on while they wait too!!! If you're thinking it's your time for braces, don't wait. It costs nothing to schedule a consultation with this awesome team. :-)

So long story short. Ive had previous orthodontic work. In my late 20s i had i approached Dr Maura. Through ALL my anxiety about teeth she has helped me and kept the process calm. Shes so caring and so unique. I love her temperament and understanding perspective. Her office staff are AMAZING. They are fun and accommodating! The office is always decorated for fun. My daughter even loves to visit when she can (too young for braces). However, when the time comes I will be sending her to Dr. Maura. Thanks to Dr Maura for being EXTREMELY understanding and always kind.

We love Slack Ortho! My oldest daughter has been in braces for a little over a year and my middle daughter is in the 7up club. The office is always so clean and inviting and the staff is amazing. I heard about slack ortho from the kids school parent pick up tags/agendas. I never even bothered looking anywhere else. Check in is quick and easy you just find your name on the tablet and check in. Appointments are generally pretty quick and there hasn't been a ton of wait time for us. My middle daughter has been in the 7up club about a year now. It is a free club for them to follow the progress of the teeth coming in so they kind of have a head start/treatment plan idea IF braces end up being needed. My son will eventually join the 7up club too. They always make visits fun especially with all their holiday spirit. Highly recommend Dr. Slack and her team! -candyce mullen

Dr. Maura and her staff are truly amazing! My daughter and I both were patients. We actually enjoyed going to the orthodontist for our visits because Dr. Maura and her staff makes it so much fun. We both completed our treatment earlier than expected. We were previously told my daughter would need teeth pulled but Dr. Maura was able to make her smile beautiful without pulling teeth. She truly cares about her patients and the community. Best orthodontist in my opinion!!!

I had my first appointment today, and I was treated with respect and kindness from the moment I walked in. The office is very nice- clean, bright, open and comfortable. Doesn't feel like a dental office at all. Everyone I came into contact with was professional and friendly. They answered all my questions, and I felt very comfortable. I'm looking forward to getting my braces here!
