Dr. Sean, as his patients know him, is a board-certified pediatric dentist who is a specialist in treating infants, children, and individuals with special health care needs. His training included dental school and two additional years specializing in pediatric dentistry. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center.

After four years serving uninsured children in the National Health Service Corps, Dr. Sean realized a great desire to help underserved children. Dr. Sean decided to seek further training as a specialist in dental care for children. Dr. Sean then completed a two-year post graduate residency program receiving his certificate in pediatric dentistry at the University of Iowa. During his training, Dr. Sean provided comprehensive care for well children and those with special needs including emergency care, conscious sedation, and treatment in the operating room under general anesthesia. Dr. Sean is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

As a specialist, Dr. Sean is trained to treat a wide variety of children with unique needs. He is trained and certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), basic life support, and is certified by the Colorado State Board of Dentistry to provide in-office sedations. Dr. Sean is on staff at St. Francis-Penrose Hospital, and Audubon Surgery Center where he provides care to children who require treatment under general anesthesia.

Throughout his dental career, Dr. Sean has been involved in dental mission trips helping disadvantaged children receive basic dental care. He has led several dental mission trips throughout the world in various third world countries. He remains passionate to ensure that underserved children obtain the dental and medical care they need to become successful in life.

Dr. Sean believes in professional and community involvement and is an active member in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Colorado Springs Dental Society.

Dr. Sean lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, where they are awaiting their seventh child. In his free time, Dr. Sean is involved with his church, backpacking, mountain biking, obstacle course racing, climbing 14ers, and dental mission trips. Dr. Sean and family enjoy being actively involved in the community and are thankful to call Colorado Springs home.

Candace is a native of Colorado Springs and received her Expanded Duties Dental Assistant certificate from Pikes Peak Community College. She has been in the dental field for over 20 years. Her incredible knowledge of all facets of dentistry makes her invaluable to our team. Candace brings a wealth of managerial experience to the team and a passion for serving others. She seeks to make every familys experience at Simply Kids Dental the best it can be.

Alejandra, or Ale, moved to Colorado Springs from Mexico when she was just 3 years old. She is married and a mother of three wonderful children. Shes also a dog mom to Rexy. Ale brings valuable skills, a beautiful smile and warm greetings to our team and patients!

Jeannie has been involved in dentistry for over 30 years. As our Outreach and Event Coordinator, she is given the opportunity to teach good dental hygiene to children through our Dentist for a Day program. She also loves to showcase the great care offered by our team at community events.

Jeannie, a native of Pueblo, received her Expanded Duties Dental Assistant certificate from the University of Southern Colorado. She and her husband have two sons and two granddaughters. She loves to travel, read, bake, and walk in the evenings.

JoAnn, a recent resident to Colorado Springs, is proud to be born and raised in Texas. She joins our team with a wealth of front office experience working as a front office scheduler and a medical assistant at Children's Medical Center of Dallas for over ten years.

Linda is a native to Colorado Springs and graduated from Pikes Peak Community College with an Associate in Applied Sciences. Since joining Simply Kids Dental, she has been an invaluable team member. She has excelled in every position she has held and this is what led her to our team. Linda joined Dr. Sean for his latest dental mission trip to Vietnam.

Nawal graduated Pikes Peak Community College with her Associates of Science degree in dentistry as an EDDA. Nawal has been one of the most valuable team members of Simply Kids Dental since 2012, and is known for her calming and friendly presence with the patients. Nawal is frequently requested for her ability to put any patient at ease for their dental procedures.

On Nawal's free time she enjoys spending time with her daughter and son. She loves spending as much time outdoors as possible as well and enjoys hiking, grilling and joining outdoor events with her children.

Sandra grew up in Fountain, and completed the Expanded Duties Dental Assistant program at Intellitec Medical Institute. She brings to our team a vast amount of experiences working in the field of pediatric dentistry. Sandra is known for bringing a spark of joy to every child she treats.

Darla is a true native of Colorado and attended Mitchell High School. Upon graduating, Darla earned her Cosmetology certificate and successfully advanced within her company. Darla now brings to our team a wealth of customer service and managerial experience.

Kolbe, Dr. Seans oldest, moved to Colorado Springs from Iowa after his father completed his residency. Having an interest in the profession, Kolbe joined the Simply Kids Dental team last year and has quickly learned to be an integral team member. He will be attending Texas A&M University next fall and is determined to pursue a degree in dentistry. Kolbe loves a challenge and his soft manner and joyful attitude soothes our patients who need an extra touch of calm.

Isaac, Dr. Seans son, was born in Illinois but was raised in Colorado Springs. With a passion to serve other, he enjoyed getting a head start in dentistry while finishing high school. Having six siblings, Isaac loves interacting with children and making an anxious child more comfortable.

Each summer, we want to thank our amazing patients and their families for the privilege of serving them at our annual Patient Appreciation Party. Nearly 1,000 people celebrate with us at our private movie screening and party! Festivities include games, prizes, and fun for the whole family. Planning is already underway for our next party. As a way to give back to our community, Simply Kids Dental offers a field trip program to entertain and educate children about dental health. We are happy to come right to your door or you can join us in our office. Fun props and songs are used to encourage daily brushing and flossing habits, along with lessons on healthy food choices. February is dental health month, but any time is a great time to teach the importance of good oral health! Our office wouldn't be standing without the dedicated service of our Colorado Springs emergency responders during the Waldo Canyon fire. We honor our local heroes of police, firefighters, and military through our sponsorship of the Kids Zone and Kids Patriotic Bicycle Parade at The Patriot's Festival . Our sponsorship allows us to show our support for local heroes and military personnel who ensure our safety and freedom. Each year we sponsor a Halloween Candy Buy Back and buy back approximately 300 pounds of candy from our community. The first day after Halloween, Simply Kids Dental encourages trick-or-treaters to sell their candy back to Dr. Sean. We partner with Operation Gratitude to distribute candy and care packages to our troops serving overseas! We were proud to include inspirational letters and colorful pictures in the care packages that our patients made for our servicemen and women.

We team with Life Network in their mission to promote the sanctity of life in the Pikes Peak region. We proudly sponsor a diaper drive, as well as their annual 5K Walk for Life , a family friendly event, which benefits the various community outreaches of Life Network.

The Lemonade Brigade is so much more than your typical 5K walk/run fundraiser. It is an opportunity for our community to stand together on behalf of children in foster care. Hope and Home, the largest foster care agency in Colorado Springs, mission is to transform lives by making lemonade out of any past traumatic situation. Our team has proudly sponsored this event over the years and look forward to running or walking for this worthy cause.

Dr. Sean not only believes in giving back to the community, but to the world as well. Whether it's here in Colorado Springs at the KIND Clinic, or across the globe in 3rd world countries, he loves the opportunity to give back to children in need. Most of the children that Dr. Sean treats are blind, deaf-mute, or have other special healthcare needs. Dr. Sean gets his local patients involved by bringing care packages and gifts that were made by his patients. He also donated money to build two new classrooms and a playground to the school in Vietnam. One highlight to his recent trip was the actual opportunity to meet the 3 children his family sponsors in Kenya.

Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommends establishing a 'Dental Home' for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.

You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. If old enough, your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and their staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less to-do concerning the visit, the better.

It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as 'needle', 'shot', 'pull', 'drill' or 'hurt'. The office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.

We encourage parents to accompany child at all visits unless they feel the child will do better without them during the dental experience. We can usually establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present. Our purpose is to gain your child's confidence and overcome apprehension. However, if you choose, you are more than welcome to accompany your child to the treatment room. For the safety and privacy of all patients, other children who are not being treated should remain in the reception room with a supervising adult.

We are going to have fun. The first visit to our office will include a cleaning, x-rays, exam and fluoride treatment. We will also perform a risk assessment for your child. From that information, we will design an individualized preventive dental health program that includes tips on brushing, fluoride and proper diet. We will do anticipatory guidance about growth and development and oral habit influences. We will also provide counseling on oral emergencies.

Along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Sean recommends that your childs first dental visit be scheduled by his/her 1st birthday. This visit is designed to give you the information you need to help your child have optimal oral health in their early growing years. A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits.

Each year, we see many children age two and younger with beginning dental problems. We know that early intervention is the only reasonable way to insure your child starts with good oral health. Dental checkups for your children should begin at twelve months and continue every six months thereafter.

When you begin your childs dental checkups, you are establishing a dental home for your child. We provide guidance for your growing child with periodic oral health evaluations in familiar surroundings. We also develop an invaluable knowledge about your child and are a resource of information for you at anytime.

Payment for professional services is due at the time dental treatment is provided. Every effort will be made to provide a treatment plan which fits your timetable and budget, and gives your child the best possible care. We accept cash, personal checks, debit cards and most major credit cards. Also, we offer payment arrangements and financing through Care Credit.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND that we file dental insurance as a courtesy to our patients. We do not have a contract with your insurance company, only you do. We are not responsible for how your insurance company handles its claims or for what benefits they pay on a claim. We can only assist you in estimating your portion of the cost of treatment. We at no time guarantee what your insurance will or will not do with each claim. We also can not be responsible for any errors in filing your insurance. Once again, we file claims as a courtesy to you.

Fact 1 NO INSURANCE PAYS 100% OF ALL PROCEDURES Dental insurance is meant to be an aid in receiving dental care. Many patients think that their insurance pays 90%-100% of all dental fees. This is not true! Most plans only pay between 50%-80% of the average total fee. Some pay more, some pay less. The percentage paid is usually determined by how much you or your employer has paid for coverage, or the type of contract your employer has set up with the insurance company.

Fact 2 BENEFITS ARE NOT DETERMINED BY OUR OFFICE You may have noticed that sometimes your dental insurer reimburses you or the dentist at a lower rate than the dentists actual fee. Frequently, insurance companies state that the reimbursement was reduced because your dentists fee has exceeded the usual, customary, or reasonable fee (UCR) used by the company.

A statement such as this gives the impression that any fee greater than the amount paid by the insurance company is unreasonable, or well above what most dentists in the area charge for a certain service. This can be very misleading and simply is not accurate.

Insurance companies set their own schedules, and each company uses a different set of fees they consider allowable. These allowable fees may vary widely, because each company collects fee information from claims it processes. The insurance company then takes this data and arbitrarily chooses a level they call the allowable UCR Fee. Frequently, this data can be three to five years old and these allowable fees are set by the insurance company so they can make a net 20%-30% profit.

Unfortunately, insurance companies imply that your dentist is overcharging, rather than say that they are underpaying, or that their benefits are low. In general, the less expensive insurance policy will use a lower usual, customary, or reasonable (UCR) figure.
