A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontists receive extensive training in these areas, including three additional years of education beyond dental school. They are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, and are also trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.

Periodontists often treat more problematic periodontal cases, such as those with severe gum disease or a complex medical history. Periodontists offer a wide range of treatments, such as scaling and root planing (in which the infected surface of the root is cleaned) or gingival curettage (in which damaged tissue is removed). They can also treat patients with moderate to severe gums problems using a range of surgical procedures. In addition, periodontists are specially trained in the placement and repair of dental implants.

During the first visit, the periodontist usually reviews the patients complete medical and dental histories. It is extremely important for the periodontist to know if any medications are being taken or if the patient is being treated for any condition that can affect periodontal care, such as heart disease, diabetes, or pregnancy.

The periodontist examines the gums, checks to see if there is any gum line recession, assesses how the teeth fit together when biting, and checks the teeth to see if any are loose. The periodontist will also take a small measuring instrument called a probe and place it between the teeth and gums to determine the depth of those spaces, known as periodontal pockets; this helps the periodontist assess the health of the gums. X-rays may also be taken to observe the health of the bone below the gum line.

Some patients periodontal needs can be managed by the general dentist. However, as more and more patients are exhibiting signs of periodontal disease, coupled with research that suggests a relationship between periodontal disease and other chronic diseases of aging, periodontal treatment may necessitate a greater understanding and increased level of expertise by a trained specialist. Patients who present with moderate or severe levels of periodontal disease, or patients with more complex cases, will be best managed by a partnership between the dentist and periodontist.

After going to different consultations for gum grafting, I ended up going to Dr Brice for a consult. She kind, honest and thorough. I decided to schedule my grafting with her and had it done a week ago. I couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism, wonderful bedside manner and results of the procedure. I would highly recommend her and will absolutely be going to her in the future for any periodontal work I need done. Thank you Dr Brice and staff.

I have had the absolute worst experience with this office. I called today to schedule an appointment for my brother who has special need and is a Special Olympics athlete. He has been seen by Dr Brice multiple times in the past, well today when attempting to schedule his routine appointment I spoke to someone on her staff named Stacy. Stacy told me that my brother could no longer be seen by Dr Brice because of an outstanding balance. I asked her what the balance was for and the date of service, Stacy told me it was in August 2020 and the amount. I remembered paying an invoice at the time of service for him so I was totally confused. I asked Stacy could i just pay the invoice, she told me no that the DR patient relationship was was cancelled. I was totally confused .... I told her that I know i paid the bill, Stacy told me that i would have to show her a credit card invoice or bank record proving that it was paid. I immediately called the bank and confirmed that the bill was in fact paid. I called Stacy back and told her that the bank said the payment cleared his account on August 27th. Stacy then placed me on hold for 15 minutes, came back to the phone and said yes, the payment did clear but there was more money owed. I asked her how ? Whatever the bill was that was presented to us was paid at the time of service. Stacy said "oh, that was just an estimate and once we presented the bill to the insurance company there was additional money owed ". I told her that My brother has disabilities however he could only pay what he was told to pay and what the doctors office presented to him to pay. She stated that they sent out bills, i confirmed the address where they sent the bills to and it was incorrect which was even more disturbing because they have a copy of his identification and email address on file. Stacy just seemed very rude and not helpful at all in fact she was down right nasty. I asked to speak to Dr Brice, She told me that I could not because she does not deal with the billing. I then told her that all of these errors are not our fault, that the ball was dropped in their office and it is bad practice to not be willing to fix their error especially now that their error is now showing up as negative credit. In addition she stated that he is being billed for a missed appointment but we had spoken to Dr Brice directly to reschedule the appointment . Upset is an understatement. This is just really really bad and I am highly disappointed that Dr Brice is practicing in such a manner, Stacy could use a lesson or two in customer service. Being rude and dismissive is sure fire way to loose business particularly when the error is all theirs ...
