Dr. Bradley Portenoy earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Thesis Honors in Behavioral Science from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1985. A Thesis Honors is a Masters equivalent awarded to a student who completes, defends, and publishes research in a chosen field.
Dr. Portenoy, a psychology major with honors at SUNY at Albany, saw a need to study more psychology in the field of dentistry and conducted this research while also studying full time as a dental student. Following graduation, Dr. Portenoy attended a two-year residency program where he was among some of the first doctors to receive Branemark restorative implant training. The program highly emphasized prosthodontics and was the beginning point for Dr. Portenoys passion for comprehensive restorative care. During his residency, he was selected to be Chief Resident overseeing fellow residents at a large hospital dental facility.
Dr. Portenoy has also had the opportunity to lecture on a national basis having given dozens of lectures to dentists at some of the most prestigious dental meetings and dental schools in the country. He now consults for dentists who wish to attain a high quality comprehensive care practices. Dr. Portenoy also has published articles in several national publications.
Dr. Portenoy was raised in upstate Rockland County, but followed his wife to Long Island. He and his wife,Cathy,have lived in Rockville Centre for over 30 years. The Portenoysraised their three children in RVC, and are currently empty nesters!
Aside from his passion for dentistry, Dr. Portenoy has been a guitar player since the age of 7. He played professionally throughout his early adulthood, and was part of the backup bands for many oldies actssuch as the Regents, The Platters and Ben E. King. In fact, Dr. Portenoy worked his way through college by giggingThursdays-Saturdays, all while attending full-time college. Dental school was just too rigorous to continue playing out, so Dr. P finally retired from the music scene.
Today, Dr. Portenoy enjoys collecting beautiful and interesting guitars and playing for friends and family. He is also an avid collector of fountain pens.Dr. Portenoy also boasts being a horrible golfer and a mediocre skier. When not embarrassing himself on the links or slopes, Dr. Portenoy can be seen at the gym pumping what little iron he can still lift!
While providing the highest quality of dental care to her patients, Dr. Elaine Garver strives to make her patients feel as comfortable as possible. Dr. Garver believes in spending time with her patients to get to know them and their oral health. Her goal is to help a patient achieve a lifetime of excellent oral health, function, and esthetics.
Dr. Garver graduated with honors from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish. She then attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 2001. She completed a two-year residency at Nassau University Medical Center, where she was a chief resident and a student of Dr. Portenoy. Even after finishing her residency, Dr. Garver remained in the program for five years as an attending dentist.
Dr. Garver was born and raised in Vernon, Connecticut. As a young girl, she knew that she wanted to be a dentist. Her father, a pediatric dentist mentored her and she happily followed in his dental footsteps. Dr. Garver always worked in his office on her high school and college vacations.
Dr. Garver is an active member of the Hewlett East Rockaway Jewish Centre (HERJC). She is a Vice President on the Executive Committee, a member of the Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the Board of Education, Co-President of the Religious School Parents Association, a member of the Gala Committee, and serves on various other committees. She participates in HERJC events as often as possible. You can even find Dr. Garver reading Torah from time to time. On March 3, 2018, Dr. Garver received the Emerging Leader Award at HERJC's Annual Gala. She is also involved in volunteer activities at her daughters elementary school.

This is a great dental practice. Dr. Portenoy and the entire staff of Signature Dentistry of Rockville Centre are friendly and professional. The exam provided is very thorough. Everything is clearly communicated throughout the visit. The office is clean, modern and efficient.

Dr. Portenoy, Dr. Garvey and their team are always warm and friendly as well as being very professional. I feel very safe in their office in these uncertain and scary times. My family has been using them for years and the treatment we have received is perfection!!

Always a good experience. I've cut back visits to medical facilities during the pandemic and gradually am resuming regular prevention visits. I felt very safe as they observe health protocols. The staff is friendly and caring as always. Unlike many people, I don't dread the dentist. They are good, knowledgeable, and professional people.

Dr. Portenoy, Dr. Garver and everyone else at this office is incredibly caring and simply amazing at what they do. If you're anxious or nervous about going to the dentist, like myself, this is the place for you. They will do everything in their power to make you feel comfortable and at ease. They will hold your hand through the entire process and explain every little detail, if you want. They truly go above and beyond, and to boot, their work is spectacular. Everything is state of the art, and again, their work is truly top notch. I can't say enough great things about this office. If you're on the fence, don't hesitate, just make the appointment and go - and from beginning to end, the staff to the dentists, who I've worked with both, will help you out. Thank you Dr. Portenoy (and EVERYONE else too, literally everyone) for working with me.
