Dr. John Howe is a Board Certified pediatric dentist who is compassionate, enthusiastic, and caring. He strives for excellence in clinical dentistry and provides an enjoyable, informative experience for each child in a gentle, nurturing environment. His philosophy is that dentistry should focus on preventing dental disease through education about oral hygiene, nutrition, and a coordinated approach between the child, their parents and his dental team. Dr. Howe and his team strive to make dental visits a positive experience for children of all ages through a combination of patience, fun and teaching.

Dr. Howe was raised in a rural farming community in northwest Ohio. He developed an interest in dentistry from his experiences going to the dentist as a child, both good and bad. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served for eight years as a hospital corpsman. He remained in the active reserves for seven years and was recalled to active duty during Desert Storm. He attended college at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, graduating Cum Laude in 1997 with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. Dr. Howe was awarded an undergraduate research grant on rapid detection of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). He represented Old Dominion University in 1995 at the Annual Undergraduate Research Conference in Detroit, Michigan. While attending college, he also worked full time as a blood bank technician at Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters, where he met his beautiful wife.

Dr. Howe attended dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio TX, which was ranked the #1 dental school in the country by US News and World Report in 1994 and 1997. He participated in a summer externship at the UTHSC Pediatric Dental Clinic and found treating children very fulfilling. After graduating in 2001, he worked as a general dentist in San Antonio for 3 years specializing in cosmetic and implant dentistry. However, Dr. Howe found himself missing the children, so he accepted a 2 year pediatric dental residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. There, he received extensive training in all areas of Pediatric Dentistry including sedation dentistry, intraoral procedures, behavior management, and treating special needs children at Temple University Hospital, Temple Childrens Hospital, and Temple Episcopal Hospital, graduating in 2006. He became Board Certified in 2012 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In fact, Dr. Howe was the only member of his residency class to pass both his written and oral boards on the first attempt.

Missing Texas hospitality, Dr. Howe moved to Houston to open his own pediatric dental practice. He opened Little Smiles of Sienna in 2009 with a partner and in 2014 he renamed the practice to Sienna Pediatric Dentistry and is now the sole practitioner. He is a member of multiple professional organizations including the: American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Houston Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Greater Houston Dental Society. He believes in giving back to the community by supporting numerous community school, sport and church activities. Dr. Howe also loves participating in programs such as Give Kids a Smile Day at University of Texas Dental School and he has gone on numerous mission trips to Latin America, including Mexico and Honduras.

Dr. Howe is dedicated to the oral healthcare of children and is an earnest child advocate. He strives for excellence in practice by attending numerous continuing education courses annually in this ever evolving field. Dr. Howe has followed an unconventional career path bringing a wealth of life experience to his practice and he believes that he has the BEST job in the world! He looks forward to meeting both you and your children. Dr. Howe currently resides in Sienna Plantation with his wife who is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine doctor at a local childrens hospital, and their cat Lucky. He is an avid fan of baseball and college football. In his spare time, he enjoys music, photography, movies, cooking, exercise, and travel.

Cute office and friendly staff. My daughter is a cry baby so a little brush made her upset but it was a short and sweet visit and her tears were wiped away with the princess crown and wand she got right after.

Scheduled the appointment and worked through the paperwork... got to the appointment and My baby was cared for from beginning to end. Not to mention the call after hours from the doctor himself because of his procedure. I appreciate you all and all that you have done for my baby I recommend 10/10.

Every time we come to this dentist we end up waiting at least 20 minutes before being called in to see the doctor. What is the point of having an appointment time when you have to sit in the lobby and wait? When I approached the receptionist, she told me that they are not running late despite me having an appointment at 2:30pm and I was still sitting in the lobby at 2:50pm! They don't respect people's time.

Friendly staff. Facility was clean and kid friendly. The Doctor was very personable and patient with my daughter who cried because she didn't want him touching her teeth. In the end he was able to clean and do an exam and we ended the visit with a toy. Job well done Sienna Pediatric! We will be seeing you again!

Go to a different pediatric dentist. This is not the place. For some reason, they have started to not allow parents to accompany their young children. The staff was extremely rude to my easy going child and the dentist needs to learn to keep his hands to himself.

First appointment for cleaning was great with Dr. Howe. Next appointment for extraction is where I got really upset. Quoted my husband for an extraction and a filling for my daughter's tooth. My husband told the receptionist that appointment is for extraction and ended doing both without the approval for filling.....and procedure we requested to be done by the same doctor, ended up being done by a different one. Sorely disappointed. Will go to a different dentist next time.

my child has been coming here. I started feeling funny about coming. I was walking in the back to see my kid Mr .Howe was walking up to me saids to me he has so many cavities loud enough for someone / everyone to here. I thought that was very unprofessional on his behalf I was pretty upset and embarrassed. Doesn't that fall under the HIPPA guidelines and didn't care for one of his Hispanic secretary she seemed very demanding and rude she was unprofessional as well. I found my kid another pediatric dentistry I couldn't be happier .

Dr. Howe and staff is great! My children have been patients for 10 years and they never complain about visiting the dentist. They make dental appointments like a fun day out. Thank you for patience and tender care. Momma Lowe.

I find it unsettling that they would not let me take my 4 yr old daughter to the back. Instead she was alone with people she never met. I understand there reasoning is because of Covid. Our temperature was taken at the door and I filled out all the questionnaire about Covid. When you take your kids to the doctors they do let you stay in the room with them, even though they are COVID cautious. Doctor who understand how infectious diseases work. We have never been to this dentist before and it made me very uncomfortable.

Dr. Howe is AMAZING! He is so incredibly kind and is great with kids. We had switched to many different pediatric dentistry due to either lack of kindness towards kids or staff was just completely unprofessional. Not only is his facility clean and with great protocols, Dr. Howe and his staff is just wonderful all around. Thank you for being so incredibly awesome to our kids! They used to be so afraid of going to the dentist and since we have started going to Dr. Howe, they are eager to go to their next appointment.
