Dr. Francis William Short was born and raised in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Delaware, where he received a degree in engineering. He worked as a structural engineer for five years before returning to school in pursuit of his childhood aspirations: to become an orthodontist.
His engineering background gave him unique insight into the physics and material science of dentistry and orthodontics. As an avid sailor and surfer, Dr. Short decided that Florida would be a great place to practice, thus he attended dental school and orthodontic residency at Nova Southeastern University in South Florida, where he graduated first in class and was chief resident. After spending six years in South Florida, Dr. Short and his wife moved back to New Jersey in order to be close to family and friends.
Dr. Short is also extremely committed to academics. He is a published author, and is a clinical instructor at the University of Pennsylvania 's Department of Orthodontics, where he was honored as 'Teacher of the Year' in 2012. He is past-president of the Atlantic-Cape May County Dental Society, a member of the New Jersey Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists.

Dr. Short and his staff are amazing and very welcoming! I got my braces here, and they gave me a great smile. The environment is extremely welcoming and friendly. Every time I had an appointment, I would be excited to come! The best orthodontist around, I would highly recommend Dr. Short!!

My sisters and I have been coming to Short Orthodontics since I was about 13-14 years. Coming here has been nothing but smooth and amazing since then! Assisted by an always friendly and helpful staff, Dr. Short provides a comfortable environment that is both relaxing and fun to be in. Would highly recommend anyone to come and work with Dr. Short!!

My daughter recently got braces here. We shopped around and initially we going to use another orthodontist in Northfield, so glad we choose Dr Short, we have had a fabulous experience, office staff have been fantastic to work with. Schedule has been easy and Dr Short even called us the weekend after she had her braces on to make sure she was ok.

My family and I have been with Dr. Short for several years. He has treated me and 2 of my siblings. He and his staff are wonderful, they are thorough and meticulous during their examinations. They are a very friendly and helpful staff who are always willing to help with any issues. They have been a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend them to any family who is in need of treatment.

Dr Short and his staff are amazing!! We were in the area for vacation and my sons pallet expander came off. Not only were they the only office that was willing to see him they saw him same day and were so wonderful!!! If we were local we would be regulars!!!! Wonder office, doctor and staff. Thank you!!!

This office has the most kind, funny people. Actually interested in how you have been and having conversations. When I got my braces I felt no pain at all unlike some peoples experiences at other offices. My teeth were very messed up before I came to Dr. Short and now have improved so much. Not to mention the office has amazing availability to work around a tough schedule even with Covid going on. Truthfully wish this was my dentist office as well. Couldn't recommend this place more.

Fantastic staff and Dr. Short is simply the best! He always takes the time to chat while still making sure the appointments run on time. The office is clean and kid friendly and even during Covid they managed to always provide the highest level of service to both the patient and the parents. Would highly recommend!

Dr. Short's office is very accommodating when it comes to rescheduling or emergency appointments. There is never a long wait, you are in and out very quickly. Their estimate for how long I would have braces on was very accurate, and the end result was great. I highly recommend going to Dr. Short.

I, my wife and especially my son loved going to Dr. Short. We truly had an amazing and memorable experience at this office. The entire staff is extremely professional. We were given right advices from very beginning. They explained every detail about my son's situation and made us comfortable with the process. The end result is truly amazing. Thank you Dr. Short!! My son looks very handsome with his smile. Today my younger son started the treatment and we are very happy with our decision to see Dr. Short!!
