Braces of the past were metal, uncomfortable, and the same for every patient. We now have the custom treatment options which make wearing braces more comfortable and less noticeable. At Shoe Orthodontics, we offer the latest developments in orthodontic treatment such as clear ceramic brackets. Ceramic braces may be a little less noticeable than metal, but they still require the use of a metal wire. Both types of brackets are bonded to the individual tooth with an adhesive and connected by the metal wire.
Approximately every four to six weeks, you will have a check-up with Dr. Shoe where he will check your progress and make adjustments to the wires so that they continually apply pressure. Occasionally, the brackets become dislodged, requiring an extra trip to the office for rebonding. With traditional braces, treatment typically lasts 18 months to two years, although every patient has individual needs and a customized treatment plan.
Once treatment is completed and the brackets removed, you enter the final phase of orthodontics, called the retention phase. We make you a custom-fitted retainer using a digital scan of your teeth. You will want to wear your retainer as instructed, or your teeth could shift from their carefully planned position. We provide lifetime replacement of damaged or broken retainers.
