I am currently studying and taking my pre requisites to become a Registered Nurse at Montgomery College. I previously worked in a Physical Therapy practice as a Rehab Tech, and now I am happy to be working with the Shin Orthodontics team. In order to practice orthodontics, both doctors spent 11 years in training (four years of college, four years of dental school, and three years of orthodontics residency). During their orthodontic training, they spent three years learning the skills needed to manage tooth movement (orthodontics) and to guide facial development.
They are both Board Certified Orthodontists. ABO Board Certification is a voluntary credential that represents an orthodontists personal and public commitment to the standards of specialty practice and lifelong learning.
Gone are the days of painful headgear, clunky bands on every tooth, and overly tight stainless steel wires. Todays orthodontic treatment is much more comfortable than it used to be. Thanks, in part, to shape-memory NiTi wires.
With the same technology that NASA uses, NiTi wires exert a continuous force against the teeth to move them in the right direction. This gets rid of the need for wire tightening. This means you spend less time in braces, and the time you do spend is more comfortable.

I consulted with 4 orthodontists near MD and DC areas then I chose Dr. Debra Shin, and I think it is the best choice I can possibly make. While other orthodontists may push you to buy sponsored products or ask you to extract extra teeth to make their work easier, Dr. Debra Shin only cares about my needs, goals and feelings. She also has the courage to choose the more complex and challenging but much less invasive method for my difficult case. She responded to my questions even during weekends. Although doing orthodontics could be scary sometimes, I always felt relaxed to see her because she is very gentle and has a lot of patience. I am overall very satisfied with the final result thanks to her professionalism. Would definitely recommend her to anyone with the needs.

Dr. Debra Shin will not stop until she makes your teeth straight and corrected. She is very honest and transparent about how she is going to correct my teeth given the condition it was at and my age (I am pretty old), she managed to make my teeth much much better-- it took me a long time to achieve the nicest set of teeth that I have right now but it was all worth it...The staff are very nice and helpful. You should go visit her office if you need to make your teeth healthy and strong. She'll take in kids and kids at heart.

I'm always skeptical of places that receive a ton of 5 star reviews but this place deserves it. I scheduled my consultation back in December 2019 and I was blown away by the amount of time Dr. Debra spent with me. It was easily an hour we spent going over my treatment options and she was very transparent with cost, length of treatment time, etc. Every checkup I had during my treatment was the same - helpful staff, solid understanding of how treatment was going, and the next steps were never a mystery. I also really appreciate a business where you can text them questions. We're all busy and sometimes, you just can't find the time to sit down and call for a question. With Shin Orthodonics, you can send a quick text and they answer pretty quickly. I can't recommend this place enough! Definitely check them out for orthodontic help.

All of the staff are consistently courteous, my daughter is afraid of dentist because of a negative experience. She was very scared to come to a new practice but after one visit she was so much less anxious. I really appreciate the ladies who work here and their kindnes.

I had a wonderful experience doing Invisilign with Dr.Shin. He was very attentive and thorough throughout the whole process. When one of my attachments came off the day before Thanksgiving he came into the office just to replace it for me. My teeth look great, and my TMJ pain is completely gone. I plan to bring my son to him in a couple of years. Highly recommend!

(3.5, rounded up to 4) After searching for an orthodonist in the area, and going to many offices, shin orthodontics was definitely a contender. Facilities looked clean and Dr. Shin was very informative and seemed very caring. However, the financial representative was not friendly, and did not "sell" me. She was rude, and often short with me, on multiple occasions saying that I was in the wrong, and did not know my own plan (which I did). Is it unfortunate that someone that will not touch my teeth has such a large impact.

I don't even know where to start with describing how amazing of an experience I had here. I was initially scared about the process since I had previously worn braces for 6 gruesome years when I was younger. My teeth shifted a lot and I had major crowding. I went to several ortho consults before I decided with Dr. Shin's office. Since the beginning to the end, the entire staff has helped me through my Invisalign process (which I didn't know was an option for my teeth). Dr. Shin really takes the time to review the treatment plan so, I knew exactly what to expect. Not only was she confident in my treatment plan, she had such a patient and caring demeanor. She took the time to listen to my concerns and adapted the plan for me. The techs are AMAZING and so knowledgeable. The front staff are sososo sweet. I loved knowing that everytime I came to the office, I was greeted by smiling + friendly faces by the whole staff. The cherry on top of it all was having straight teeth in 10 months.

We love being part of the Shin Orthodontics family. Any time we have questions or need repairs they are extremely responsive and accommodating. Each step of the process was explained and we felt our son was in great hands. We have another kiddo coming up right behind with teeth only a mother could love. Glad we have an established relationship and happy to start another phase 1.

Could not have asked for a better orthodontist. I had been looking for an orthodontist for quite some time and they offered the best price and amazing service. They were EXTREMELY attentive and really helpful. They even gave me little appointment cards to remind me when I had to come in! I've never had a bad experience here and I 100% recommend the office for anyone that needs orthodontic work done!

I have been coming to Shin Orthodontics for over a year now, and every time I come is better than the last. Everyone here is so wonderfully friendly and helpful. Texting to set up appointments is great, their office is so inviting, and the atmosphere is very warm. Coming here isn't like going to a dentist, I really look forward to my appointments. Dr. Debra and her team has helped me with so many different situations from fixing my bonded retainer, to helping me get invisalign when I wasn't sure I could afford it, and fixing any little problem I had with no questions asked. What I really appreciated was the detailed explanations of all the problems I had going on with my teeth. Instead of a doctor just telling you what's wrong with you without any subsequent information, Dr.Debra from day 1 has been so transparent and honest with me. I couldn't be happier with how my smile has become and I couldn't have done it without all the wonderful people who have helped me at Shin Orthodontics. To anyone who is looking for a good, friendly orthodontist, this is the place.
