Dr. Kingstone Shih received his BA in biological science from UC Berkeley, his DDS from UC San Francisco School of Dentistry, and his certificate of endodontics from Temple University. He is a past president of the Mid-Peninsula Dental Society, assistant clinical professor at UCSF dental school, clinical consultant with the VA Palo Alto hospital dental program, and has clinical privileges at Stanford Hospital, Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital, and El Camino Hospital. In his spare time he enjoys personal fitness, travel, and cooking.

At age 65..& 9 month's I just had my first root canal. I definitely wasn't looking forward to it. I will never eat carmel corn..or any popcorn again! After reading Dr. Shih's bio. I felt more at ease. The procedure was virtually a breeze in his more than capable hands. I highly recommend him and his very efficient, awesome staff!!

TLDR: Questionable and misleading billing practices (even for in-network), well trained staff in passing the buck/deflecting questions, worst dental treatment experience Went for a root canal and was told Delta dental is in-network. Paid the 10% portion of treatment estimate in advance of surgery. During surgery: I'm in pain and the dentist starts off with asking where I work and makes a request for finding a secretarial job for his spouse in my company! Mention that I don't have any insights for that role type and new to company etc, but continues insisting (I'm still in pain), and then asks me to reach out in case I become aware of any low skilled jobs in tech industry. 10 days later: the root canal treated tooth is cracked majorly; had to find a new dentist for extracting it completely. Essentially root canal treatment was a waste Billing horror: Though Im in-network, start getting misleading bills sent to home that insurance paid only a portion and as per the contract I signed on the day of surgery, I'm liable for remaining amount. The bill conveniently listed only the amount that had been submitted to Insurance without mentioning the "Accepted fee/Maximum Contract Allowance"! Call to dentist office: after 4 months of misleading bills stating inflated unpaid amounts (6 times the correct amount) + interest applied (along with threat of sending it to collections), I make a call and this is the explanations I received on reason behind incorrect amounts 1. The first person: Yes, agreed you are in-network but we charge flat rates so pay up the original listed amounts. (When challenged) I will transfer you to billing/account department 2. Account receivable person: You know how many patients we see (apparently trying to say that errors happen). Many of the patients we see are out-network (apparently trying to say that we incorrectly treated as out-network). Our computer system was bad, I did not generate the incorrect bill. We always tell people to ignore bills sent home as insurance may not have paid their part and give us a call (trying every way available to deflect, mislead and put blame on others) If you already visited (or plan to visit in future) then check your EOB from insurance and compare against the dentist bills. Wish there was an easy way to file complaints with relevant CA dept, dental professional associations

Lets be honest, no one enjoys getting dental work done. Dr. Shih was great, though! He walked me through the whole process as he was working on me, checked in with me multiple times and even called me the following day to check in. I thought that was so nice and shows he really cares about his patients. The procedure was virtually painless. You can tell he takes pride in his work and is a perfectionist. I hope I don't have to go back for more root canals, but If I did, I would feel very comfortable seeing Dr. Shih again. Highly recommend. Thank you, Dr. Shih!

I was very happy with Dr Kinstone for my root canal procedure. The office was professional and friendly. I was completely at ease and comfortable during my visit. The treatment went better than expected and I was pain free. I strongly recommend anyone needing root canal to give his office a call.

I was referred to Dr. Shih for a molar root canal. After my experience yesterday, I can't imagine ever getting a root canal anywhere else. Dr. Shih exudes competence and expertise. Not only was the entire process completely painless but I was in and out within the hour, including paperwork, payment and consultation. Thank you!

Dr. Shih is an excellent Endodontist who is extremely conscientious and verified multiple times that he was extracting just enough tooth to ensure that the tooth retained its integrity was health and intact when he finished. This procedure was pain free. He is highly recommended.

It does not surprise me Dr Shih has such high ratings. In all my 52 years, he is the best experience I ever had apart from being so fast and efficient. Sweet staff, very accommodating with my disability and having to be treated from a gurney. Dr. Shih and staff made it possible! Best receptionist and assistant ever! You will be perfectly satisfied!

I had dental problems for many years, until more than one year ago I am fortunate to have found Dr. Shih's practice from online search. It was his admiring education background and practice experience attracted me. He was able to fix my three teeth in the order of priority within a short period time, then the pandemic hit, so even after his excellent root canal was done, I couldn't finish the crown from another great dentist on the last of the three. Now I am traveling back from another state just to have him fixing my teeth again because I trust his work. He gave excellent follow up suggestion for that old tooth, and fixed my new 4th problem tooth with the same speed and perfection! The front desk has been very caring and helpful too. Thanks so much for giving me the peace of mind!

Dr. Shih is the Root Canal King and I don't say that lightly. He actually performs root canals in about 1/2 hour. If you've ever had a root canal you know that is absolute magic. He is a great guy as well - personable, kind and gentle. If you need a root canal or any other endodontic procedure done, look no further and book an appointment. He has given me two root canals and I have a third scheduled. I seriously could not be happier.

I was having some pain and I called to get an appointment with Dr Shih and they were able to get me in the very next day! Very accommodating! Went in the next day and they were able to do my root canal on that same day. Dr Shih is awesome! I would recommend anyone who needs a root canal to have it done by him! He's quick, efficient and very accommodating!

My front tooth was grey and starting to die, so I needed a root canal. I was super nervous because the tooth is so tiny, but Dr. Shih reassured me that everything would be fine and I would be on my way in no time. He numbed my tooth and I was out of the office in about 40 minutes. After the initial shot, it was painless! He worked very well with his assistant Genia. And the front office was extremely pleasant to deal with! Thumbs up! If you ever end up needing a root canal, I would highly recommend Dr. Shih!!

I had a root canal today. He was very knowledgeable, competent and skilled (my root canal he did in 2005 has had no problems). I especially appreciate how well he communicated, both about the procedure and during the procedure. He was sensitive to my concerns and I felt very safe and well cared for. Unfortunately another tooth also needs a root canal, but I'm very glad he's there to take care of it for me. I highly recommend Dr. Shih.

Dr Shih is a great dentist. He did root canal treatment on my husband, my sisters and on myself, pretty much my whole family whoever needs a root canal. He is very competent and efficient. He is straight forward and tell it as it is. He got it done and no more pain. Highly recommend him for whoever needs root canal treatment.
