Dr. Harvey Sherman was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. He recieved his BA degree at Emory University in 1978 and graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1982. He is a member of the American Dental Association, The Maryland State Dental Association, and Frederick County Dental Society.
Nicole Office Manager After living in Baltimore for 25 years Nicole she has returned to her hometown. She has 23 years experience in the health and wellness industry in a variety of specialties, including massage therapy, aesthetics, oral surgery, periodontics and dental insurance. Nicoles belief in transparency is paramount to fostering lasting relationships with the practices patients. She values providing treatment planning for patients and providing dental insurance estimates.
Nicole is crazy about her French bulldogs: Melvin and Mona. She spends much of her free time volunteering for a MD raptor rehabilitation center where she is under a Master Rehabilitator apprenticeship. Nicole also enjoys cooking international cuisine and baking confections.
Mary Registered Dental Hygienist Mary earned her A.A. degree in dental hygiene in 1985 from Allegany Community College and has been working with Dr. Sherman ever since. In order to provide her patients with the highest quality care possible, Mary has taken many continuing education courses. Her goal is to bring all her patients to the highest level of periodontal health possible.
Alicja Certified Dental Assistant Alicja joined Sherman Smiles in 2017, bringing with her 12 years experience including periodontics, orthodontics, and oral surgery. She enjoys being a part of the life-changing experience that our fabulous patients go through under the care of Dr. Sherman.

Friendly, professional staff that are here to help you. Unlike chain clinics in the area, they are not here to sell you services you don't need. Happy to call Sherman Smiles my dentist!

I am so very happy to have found Dr. Sherman and his hygienist, Mary. I was treated with kindness and respect and felt that my future dental care is in good hands. I recently moved to Maryland and had a bad experience at a previous dental office and I will be recommending Dr. Sherman and staff. Their professionalism is impeccable.

I had broken my filling and needed to find a dentist fast. I was going to my previous dentist for a while but they no longer accepted my insurance. I went through my insurance portal and found Sherman Smiles on there. I have SEVERE anxiety with dentists so I was extremely hesitant on going. As soon as I made an appointment Nicole was AWESOME and probably one of the nicest front office ladies ever. She got me right in. Once I was in the office, she greeted me and we chatted. Then I was taken to the back by Alecja (sorry if I spelled it wrong!) I told her I was very nervous and she was SO SWEET and so funny! She made sure I felt comfortable and was super quick with doing the bite wing X-ray. Alecja went over my questions regarding the X-rays and went through each one throughly. Dr. Sherman came right on back and he explained the procedure. Then we chatted about lots of stuff while my mouth in the process is being numbed. He didn't leave my side once during this portion, which is something I had not experienced before. Once he felt I was ready and comfortable he started it up and chatted with us about the possible snow forecast, giving me breaks to talk and making sure I was still comfortable. I didn't feel a single thing while he was working on it. Once done, he made sure to go through everything he found and what the next steps were. If the filling breaks then... and your gums are inflamed so this.. he was wonderful at making sure I had no questions left and that I understood more about what he found and his next course of actions for me. Dr. Sherman did not even pressure me to come back, just that he wanted to make sure I was caring for my teeth no matter where I end up. I decided to set up an appointment for a cleaning in a couple of weeks with them, I could not recommend them enough. Everyone was incredibly friendly, patients in the office were chatting and you could tell the hygienists and Dr. Sherman truly care about their patients. I heard the staff following up with patients on their life updates and the happenings going on, which you don't find many people like this anymore! I just hope he doesn't retire for another 20 years and wish I would have found him much much sooner!

From Nicole at the front desk, to Dr Sherman (thank you Mary for all you've done for me), this practice is the epitome of kindness and professionalism. Highly recommend!

Every single staff member is friendly and accommodating. Dr. Sherman is thorough and explains things well, he also has a great demeanor that makes you feel comfortable which is pretty important because no one likes going to the dentist. I love that the practice is smaller and that there is the option of not just text updates but also being able to text questions regarding appts or any concerns. Highly recommend!

I wish I could give them a better rating - I genuinely do. The technician was wonderful and the dentist seems like a capable doctor. Unfortunately the new "manager" that works the front desk has been nothing short of difficult. At my first visit she was argumentative and condescending. We had an argument over insurance billing and her need to prove herself right overwhelmed her desire to provide good customer service. I decided to proceed with booking crowns because I liked the other staff so much. We booked out the appointment a month in advance but a few days prior to the surgery I found out from my insurance company that she never filed the Pre-Authorization. While not mandatory, the lack of a pre-authorization can lead to a higher cost than the estimate provided and might even result in a denial of benefits. When I called the office to reschedule and ask why this hadn't been done it was apparently the same individual. She began to tell me I didn't need a pre-authorization but I stopped her and stated that I knew the implications and that it should have been filed long ago. At that point she started saying that whenever we talk she feels like I don't let her explain and began criticizing me. I asked for a manager and she snidely stated she was the manager. She continued criticizing me and then I said I wanted to speak with someone above her and she smugly stated there was no one. I wasn't going to continue being insulted so I said I would address this directly with the Doctor and hung up. I then cancelled my appointment by text and she responded to let me know the Dr was aware of my concerns. I'd like to think he doesn't realize the true nature of her customer service defects but the fact he didn't want to speak with me about the issue gives me enough pause to discontinue service with them. Ultimately a doctor's office should service the needs of their patients and not make their lives more difficult. Thus the one star.
