Dr. Shelby Smith received her DDS degree at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1990. Having found her joy in working with children, she went on toUCLA, whereshe earned her Masters in Oral Biology and took specialty training in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. While there, she alsocompleted a fellowship in treating children with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
Moving back to her hometown after college, shebegan practicing in Antioch in 1993, specializing in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics for the past 27years. Wanting to give back to those who don't have access to care, she worked as the staff Pediatric Dentist at the Alameda County Medical Center Eastmont Dental Clinic, where she specialized in behavior management cases and served as a pre-doctoral instructor for UCSF dental students. In 2010, Dr. Shelby was asked by the Dental Board of California to serve as an Orthodontic Expert on their Peer Review Board. She wasresponsible for helping ensure that the public is being served by dentists who are ethical and who practice according to the standard of care.
Dr. Shelby plays a very active role in the dentistry community and is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the California Association of Orthodontists, the Contra Costa Dental Society, the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association.
As a dental practitioner, Dr. Shelby and her staff work hard to deliver dentistry in a fun, caring, and efficient manner, and to work with patients and families towards a lifetime of dental care. She loves seeing the surprise on a patients face when they complete their orthodontic treatment. Dr. Shelby and her team are amazing! My daughter is 6 and had a horrible experience with her previous dentist last year that she has been terrified ever since. Today was her 2nd visit and she went in nervous with tears and fear she will be hurt like before. But my daughter came out smiling most importantly she came out feeling Brave and Accomplished. She was so proud of herself today. Truly an amazing team

Dr. Shelby and her whole staff are AMAZING! Their new office is amazing! They are flexible, understanding and accommodating. They take the time to listen and explain...My son was having some terrible TMJ issues and Dr. Shelby was patient with his conditions and finding us the best dental treatment for him, which WORKED! Overall, amazing dental practice.

I tried numerous pediatric dentists when my kids were younger and none were a good fit, UNTIL we found Dr. Shelby's office. She's not only extremely knowledgeable about her field, but she's also great with kids AND parents. Her staff is awesome and my kids really like them all, too. It's definitely a win when you say, "I love Dr. Shelby!" and they respond, "Me, too!" They've had to have dental work beyond cleanings, so it's great that they, as kids, still feel that way, it definitely tells you something about her office and skills. AND now they're getting bigger and getting braces there too! Highly recommend.

Dr. Shelby is the best around! I went to her as a child and now bring my three daughters to her. The esthetic created is perfectly tailored to children and sets them up for a great appointment! From the fish tank with print outs detailing the fish inside to the cartoons above head to relax the kids to the calm and kind staff, everything is amazing! Dr. Shelby is a fantastic dentist who has spent lots of time and love creating an all around positive experience for her patients. I recommend her to everyone I know

We're returning after maybe five years and the warm and welcoming feeling is just as it was then. More importantly, the obvious expertise and knowledge of not only Dr. Shelby but her staff is still evident. My husband and I are comfortable putting our now 15-year-old son's dental care in Dr. Shelby's hands. He'll have to get a second set of braces. We knew that this would likely happen based on Dr. Shelby's early prognosis so we are resdy to return for phase 2 of his dental plan. This is a wonderful place to take your young person.

5 of my kids are patients of Dr. Shelby. We were referred to her because my son has extreme anxiety around the dentist. Dr. Shelby and the entire staff are beyond amazing. Everyone is kinda, welcoming, calm, patient with the kids, and they make the experience fun for the kids. My son's anxiety has reduced significantly around the dentist after going to Dr. Shelby for a while.

Always a fabulous visit with my children, superb 5 star service with the most fabulous people, can't say staff as you're made to feel part of the Shelby Smith family on your first visit. Friendly, Professional, astute, caring, and did I mention friendly! Absolutely flawless service, with genuine smiles all round. Dr. Shelby and her office staff are phenomenal.. I'm the mom of 5 and my youngest is autistic. The staff scheduled him with older children so he would not hear smaller children upset if they were scared.. they were patient and kind with my son and I highly recommend them!

Best dentist ever! We wouldn't use any other. She doesn't do unnecessary things and waits until it is reasonable for braces.
