Mark S. Jensen, DDS Dr. Mark Jensen graduated with a bachelors degree in biology from the University of Kansas in 1984. He then continued on to the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with distinction in 1988. Following graduation, Dr. Jensen completed a three-year general practice residency with the United States Navy Dental Corps. During this time, which he found to be both rewarding and challenging, he worked primarily with Marines in the First Gulf War. He learned many of the skills he now uses every day by working with some of the finest clinicians anywhere.

After completing his residency, Dr. Jensen moved back to Kansas City, his hometown. In 1992, he purchased this practice from a retiring doctor and developed the theme of Together, Dental Health for Life. While Dr. Jensen has practiced dentistry in the area for more than 20 years, and his practice has grown tremendously, he has never lost sight of what has led to any success he has had caring for his patients as best as possible.

Dr. Jensen has extensive training in several areas of dental care, including cosmetic dentistry and oral surgery. He also continues his education in dentistry on a regular basis, maintaining all of the required continuing education for accreditation with the State of Kansas Dental Board. In addition, Dr. Jensen is a member of the American Dental Association, Kansas Dental Association and Fifth District Dental Society of the State of Kansas. Furthermore, the practice is accredited by the Better Business Bureau of Greater Kansas City.

Avoid this place. They recently shut down without warning, and have apparently opened up under new management. The new management refuses to refund $200(ish) dollars that they had overbilled my wife before shutting down, and yet they continue to contact us to re-set appointments as if nothing had happened. Go elsewhere.

After being satisfied for years, I wasn't worried when I didn't get a appointment reminder. I called that morning, and they said they had canceled and "tried to contact" me, although I had no phone message, or email, or 'missed call'. I had to reschedule over a month out and then didn't get a reminder again. So again, I called that morning but just got their answering machine. When I went down there, the office door was locked, and I could see that the lights were off. A nurse from another office across the hall came out and told me the dentist was closed all the previous week too with patients showing up, and no one knew what was going on.

I received an email that the office closed until further notice, after I paid $6750 for my Mom's permanent all-on-4 fixed denture. We couldn't contact them. The oral surgeon from OFSA-KS couldn't contact them. The lab (Medallion) that creates the prosthetic couldn't contact them. My Mom was left in a temporary denture for over 6 months. I paid another office to finish the same work I had already paid for. Shawnee Village was sold to new owners who will not refund me, but they made an attempt to schedule me for a cleaning as if i missed an appointment. Through our experience my mom had 3 different dentists from Shawnee Village handle her case which made it incredibly difficult to feel like the 10s of thousands of dollars was well spent.

Update 8-22-22 a very nice, man answered the phone and was as accommodating as anyone could be under the circumstances. Apparently Jensen's practice was acquired through bank sale and they are scrambling to take care of all the people left in the lurch. I am unhappy with how it went down but do not recommend taking it out on the new staff/ownership. In late Spring 2022 I was contacted by the scheduler and told the practice closed suddenly and patients would be contacted with instructions to acquire records. I had been seeing the new female dentist after Dr. Jensen changed to an administrator rather than a practitioner of the business and had installed a new dentist billing under his name at the beginning of this year so this was a surprise. No contact thereafter. I called a few months later to try to find out how to best get records so I can continue my needed dental care and noticed the website is still active, appointment scheduling system still active, google listing states "confirmed by this business one week ago" and the phone system still answers with normal scheduling instructions in the message (I called after hours just to see if the number was still good). I cannot guess why but I see others saying they are non-responsive lately. I`m moving on to a better dental practice that is well-loved by the community and only hope they release my records. This is a sad continuation of unprofessionalism I experienced over the years from the front desk staff even though the dentists and cleaning techs were good. For this reason I cannot recommend anyone go here. There are too many great dentists and professional offices to choose from in the area.

Poor quality work from Jenson DDS. The rest of the staff was was great. Gave him a second chance to fix the problem and he was unwilling or unable.

Ever since Dr. Jensen retired this clinic has started slacking. They cancelled my 6 months scheduled cleaning with no explanation. Sent me a text to confirm that it got cancelled. Tried calling the clinic to reschedule and left messages to be called back. No one ever called me back and it took several days of trying to call them before I was able to get someone to pick up the phone. They couldn't get me in for a month and a half after the original scheduled date of my cleaning. They stopped sending reminders. I forgot the time of my appointment but knew the date. I called the day before my appointment to ask the time of my scheduled appointment. No answer and no returned call. I've called at least 5 times this morning with no answer. I've been coming to this office for 15 years and after today I think it's time to find a new dentist office. It's sad because the staff here really used to be great. Clearly the morale has slipped since Dr. Jensen is no longer around to make sure things are running smoothly.

Didn't have the same hygienist as last time so that was a unwelcome surprise. Did she quit or do they just put patients with whoever is available?. Dr shamed me for using floss picker tools instead of actual strings of dental floss. Also shamed me for not being on a strict 6 month schedule when they're the ones who rescheduled me to 7 months because my hygienist was out sick. Hygienist was apprehensive and timid with tools so maybe new grad? Idk. Not the best visit.

Read the reviews here about insurance and the front desk and take note. When I called to schedule the appointment, I asked to verify insurance coverage BEFORE I asked for time off of work. They couldn't be bothered. They said I'd receive a packet to complete online. Then, I started receiving texts from an unknown number asking me to text my SSN to verify coverage. Completing an online, secure form is one thing. Wasting a person's time and then asking to text private details and then to call in again is unprofessional.

I am sooooo disappointed right now?. I had made an appointment for my husband coming up on 4/28/22 and we were called about rescheduling it. The dater we were given was mid September. This practice had always been more than exceptional with their service and when I called I was just told they were completely booked. No explanation whatsoever from receptionist. When I said, "Can I ask why so far back? Do you have staffing issues?" She said "yes". I told the lady we couldn't wait that long and she said I will try if we have an opening sooner. Then said, " Don't worry we will just go somewhere else". I didn't get an I'm sorry or anything. She just said, " Ok, thank you!" She abviously didn't care!! So disappointed as a loyal customer

I would generally rather do anything with my day than go to the dentist, even bowling. That being said, Shawnee Village Family Dental makes it relatively painless. They compliment my grill when my grill don't deserve it, but it works. I keep coming back. Cheers to the dentist and hygienists that took care of me. I promise to start flossing more.
