Dr. Douglas Shaw was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated with honors from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Medical Biology. During his undergraduate education, he took a two-year hiatus to volunteer as a missionary for his church on the islands of Samoa in the South Pacific. He experienced the culture and found a place in his heart for service.
Dr. Rasmussen, known by his patients as Dr. Razz, grew up in Midland, Texas. He competed in Taekwondo and golf at state and national levels throughout his childhood, which taught him the importance of hard work and personal effort.
Dr. Shaw then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. SUNY is New Yorks #1 research University, and Dr. Shaw graduated #1 in his class and received clinical and academic honors. He was elected into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society.
During his dental education, Dr. Shaw participated in numerous outreach programs and served on the organization committee of the first-ever BOCA (Buffalo Outreach & Community Assistance) dental mission trip to the Kingdom of Tonga in the South Pacific.
Dr. Shaw has always had a passion for orthodontics and received his Certificate from NOVA Southeastern University. It was there that he learned the skills necessary to improve his patients lives by creating functional and aesthetically pleasing smiles.
Additionally, Dr. Shaw earned a Master of Science degree for his thesis on digital vs. analog cranial base cephalometric superimpositions. His training has exposed him to a wide variety of treatment modalities and techniques.
Unlike many orthodontists, Dr. Shaw is exceptionally skilled at planning smiles because he has experience with cosmetic dentistry and aesthetic evaluation of the face. He believes that every patient deserves to have a smile designed just for them.
Dr. Shaw is one of the few dentists in the world trained in digital co-diagnosis, which allows you to pay a central role in the treatment planning process. Youll be engaged, better-informed, and play an active partner in planning your treatment.
Having lectured internationally, Dr. Shaw enjoys working with both local general dentists and specialists. He helps them create treatment plans to serve their patients better and educate the community about orthodontics.
He went on to UTs prestigious School of Dentistry at Houston, where he graduated top of his class, served as president of the student body, and won the schools first nationally-recognized Hinman Research Symposium Presidents Award for his work on researching Craniosynostosis.
Finally, Dr. Razz passed the rigorous American Board of Orthodontics certification process to become Board-certified, which involved demonstrating his orthodontic knowledge in front of 18 nationally-recognized orthodontists and researchers.
In his free time, Dr. Razz likes to play guitar and travel with Danielle. When hes not dishing up stunning, healthy smiles, Dr. Razz dishes up delicious mealshe and his dental school friends won a local BBQ competition with their buffalo and caramelized onion sliders!
