Dr. Shaw was born and raised in The Bear River Valley. He received his bachelors degree from Utah State University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1998. After graduation, he established his practice in Tremonton while also practicing in West Valley City.
When at home, Dr Shaw enjoys working on mechanical engines, learning the complexities of any new project, and spending time with his wife, 6 children, and 7grandchildren. Together they enjoy camping, boating, and playing games
Dr. Shaw excels in oral surgery, including implant placement, wisdom teeth extractions, IV conscious sedation, frenectomy, crown lengthening as well as treatment for pediatric patients. He strives to renderthese treatments while the patient is comfortable and at ease.
I started my career with white fillings and porcelaininlays and onlays to protect weak teeth. I was the first dentistnorth of SLC (about the year 2000) to own a CEREC IV (like the E4D) the in office 1 day crown andonlay making machine. I soon realized that I could not make a crown or inlay/onlay as strong as nor as good looking as my lab could.
To add insult to injury he was less expensive. I could charge less for his crowns than making my own crowns. I then tried to train my assistants to make the crowns, but the years experience my lab technician had was impossible to duplicate in the time my assistants had to learn. I reallydidnt have a chance competing with the professional lab.
Now, imagine my frustration as I realized that old fashioned silver fillings lastmuch much longer than the white fillings that I learned to place in dental school. Fifty year old silver amalgams are common place. White fillings last far less.If I wanted the longest lasting dentistry then the best choice I sawwas to use silver amalgam fillings.
Then I found Caries View. It uses near infra red light to see into the tooth.This allowed me the diagnostic power to see into the tooth by the sides of silver fillings. Wow I could see that there was decay deep inside the tooth next to the fillings that were hidden from x-rays and vision. So those old silver amalgam fillings are failingmuch sooner thanI thought.
NowI haveBiomimetic Dentistry the most advanced method of filling teeth. Ibond composite tooth colored filling material to the tooth with much stronger bonds, bonds similar to the strength of the tooth structure itself. I can now save all of thehealthy tooth structureand avoid using crowns. In order to place a crownhealthytooth structure must be removed. Biomimetic dentistrytruly is minimally invasive dentistry.
Imagine all this advancement then add the fact thatthey areless expensive than crowns, inlays, and onlays. Thank goodness for the advances in Biomimetic Dentistry! Now dentistry canlookgood, feel great, and last a longtime!

Dr. Shaw is a great and affordable dentist who does NOT take advantage of patients to earn a few extra bucks. He is one of those rare dentists that will only recommend cavity fillings when you actually need them. Once you find a dentist like this, I recommend holding onto them as long as possible. I live in Colorado and my new dentist there told me I had 4-5 cavities. This was a shock after not having any cavities for over 10 years. I decided to get a second opinion while I was in Utah and went in to see Dr. Shaw. I didn't say anything about the other dentist, but after evaluating me he said I didn't have any cavities. What a relief and he saved me a lot of money. My whole family visits Utah every summer and we always stop by Dr. Shaw's office for our checkups. Highly recommended.

I've taken both of my kids there and have loved it! They took amazing care of my very nervous 5 year old. Dr. Shaw and his staff have been so kind and patient and explained everything to them before they did anything in a way they could understand. Thanks guys!

Dr. Shaw and his staff are amazing. They always make me feel comfortable and are very friendly. Recently Dr. Shaw has started using Biomimetic Dentistry which replicates the strength, function and esthetics of the natural tooth. The filling he did on my tooth using this technique has been wonderful. There was less pain and discomfort after the procedure and no sensitivity. I would highly recommend Dr. Shaw

My family has been going to Dr. Shaw for years and we couldn't be more pleased. Dr Shaw and his staff are always very friendly and helpful. Recently Dr. Shaw has begun using biomimetic dentistry. This is dentistry that mimics normal tooth structure and saves as much of the healthy tooth as possible. Using these techniques, he was able to fill one of my teeth that would have otherwise needed a crown or possibly even a root canal. The filling is amazing! There was less pain and soreness than a normal filling and no sensitivity. The filling feels and looks great. I appreciate Dr. Shaw's willingness to do his research and make sure he's giving his patients the best treatment possible.

Dr Shaw and staff are the best!!! Dr. Shaw is incredible for a individual Who absolutely hates dentist!!!! Dr. Shaw made my visit painfree and very comfortable. I was very very nervous to have the extraction but he made me feel no shots no pain and completely comfortable through the whole process. The entire staff is so nice, helpful and make you feel at ease immediately upon entering the building! Thank you Dr. Shaw and Shelly for being THE BEST FAMILY DENTIST OFFICE!!!

We've been seeing Dr. Shaw for several years. The staff has been knowledgeable, accommodating and pleasant to work with. Dr. Shaw's work has held up over time, whether it be fillings or crowns. Our kids actually look forward to going to the dentist, so they must be doing something right!

I have been going to Dr Shaw for 15 years. He is an amazing dentist who has great concern for his patients. He uses the latest technology but uses the least costly options necessary to fix a problem. He and his staff are so friendly. I have spent a lot of time in Dr Shaw's office and will continue to see him until the day he retires. They accept most insurance, and are so helpful in accepting payments when necessary. A+ dentist and staff.

So, I live in China and really needed some reliable same-day work. Gary was amazing and despite the inconvenient time and scheduling was able to help me fix a tooth that had been bothering me for some time. I thought for sure I would need a crown and that it would be an expensive two-visit process - he did this thing called a biomimetic filling and I didn't need a crown. Basically, he "mimicked" the natural biology of the tooth without drilling it to a nub like was done with other crowns I'd gotten. It was really cool and I was able to enjoy a good American cheeseburger that same day! Thanks Gary and please thank that wonderful assistant of yours, as well! You guys were lifesavers! :-)

Dr. Shaw has been our family dentist for over 15 years now. He's always been patient and thorough. The staff is always friendly and kind. Just recently he saved me from getting a crown by using biometic dentistry. I love how it looks and feels like a real tooth!

Dr. Shaw and his staff treat me like a queen even though I didn't have have to have crown ;) You read that right! I didn't have to have a crown after my root canal! How is this possible you ask? Well, Dr. Shaw is one of only a couple hundred dentist that has been trained and has experience doing Biomimetic fillings. Crowns crack, break and fail. When it happens, it HURTS! With a Biomimetic filling you keep as much of your healthy tooth as possible (which is stronger than anything a dentist can put in your mouth) and then it is filled with the Boimimetic filling so the tooth is stronger! If the Boimimetic filling for some reason is compromised, there is minimal pain and its just a quick patch to fix it! You can say good-bye to your crown too and still get first class treatment! My kids love Dr. Shaw and his assistants are so kind and gentle with them. We are so glad he is local and we don't have to travel far distances to get quality, friendly and affordable dental work. Thank you Dr. Shaw and Staff!!

Dr. Shaw and staff are amazing! They are the best dental team around! I have never enjoyed going to the dentist much, but Dr. Shaw has made my dental care experiences so much better! Dr. Shaw makes sure you are happy with the work he does, and he bends over backwards to take care of your dental needs. He has gone out of his way, even after hours, to take care of my dental work.
