Shasta Community Health Center, working with private and public health partners, and by leveraging and efficiently using its limited resources, will help to create a seamless system of access to compassionate, high quality cost-effective primary and preventive health care for all residents of the communities it serves. Shasta Community Health Center strives to improve the health status within the communities it serves, particularly for those residents who are economically or otherwise disadvantaged.

Shasta Community Health Center (SCHC) is a state licensed and independent non-profit Community Health Center, led by an independent and consumer majority board of directors. SCHC is also a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n). As such, SCHC receives Health and Human Services funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including professional liability claims (i.e. malpractice claims), for itself and those covered clinicians/practitioners and support staff at SCHC.

Redding is located in the beautiful far north of the Sacramento Valley and California. Surrounded on three sides by designated wilderness areas, Redding is an attraction for those looking for an uncrowded experience, hiking, skiing, water sports, or just 'less traffic'. Redding has a population of 90,000 with numerous surrounding smaller communities. Redding is the major medical referral center between Sacramento and Oregon.

Located conveniently on I-5, events in Sacramento and San Francisco can be reached within 2-3 hours drive. The beautiful Northern California coast is 150 miles to the west, with state parks and redwood forests for the naturalist. Living costs are typically much less in the Redding area, compared to larger metro areas of California.

Residents of the greater Redding area have found it the ideal blend of infrastructure and services - and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. Family centered events, schools, sports and culture are relatively easy and inexpensive to access. Many residents choose to stay and practice here; Redding is indebted to the Family Practice programs that continue to attract and supply the bulk of primary care physicians in the area.

Two major hospitals serve the community Shasta Regional Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center /Redding. A combined 400 bed availability provides exceptional medical and surgical services with a broad range of primary and specialty care. We are especially fortunate to have a talented and dedicated medical community that provides outstanding care to our patients.

Shasta Community Health Center (SCHC) is a non-profit primary health care system and is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). SCHC is based in Redding, California and has served Shasta County and surrounding counties and communities since 1988. Shasta Community Health Center's mission is to provide quality health care services to the medically under-served populations of the community. Since inception, the health center has grown steadily and now includes outlying clinic facilities in Andersonand Shasta Lake City. SCHC has implemented a full Electronic Medical Records system since 2008 that links all clinics and HOPE vans, is remotely accessible and facilitates recertification and research pursuits. A full time IT staff supports our clinicians and is readily available for assistance when needed. Providers are provided with a laptop device specifically to allow remote and secure access to records and clinic database.

With a recently constructed state-of-the-art three story clinic building at it's flagship health center in Redding, SCHC provides primary medical, pediatric, dental, vision, mental health, urgent care, specialty consults, telemedicine, and HIV services. SCHC specializes in health care for the homeless, provides a ready point of access for the developmentally disabled population, and is a primary resource for medical treatment of substance abuse. SCHC boasts over 35,000 patients, providing 140,000 clinical encounters annually. SCHC employs over 400 staff and 40 healthcare providers.

The Dental staff and office staff are great. They are skilled, professional and very kind. As an adult, don't expect to actually receive any dental care from SCH. In the time it takes to receive dental care (in my case 2 and a half years on a wait list for an appointment) a small cavity has turned into a needed root canal, and I still don't have an appointment. In hindsight, it would have taken me a quarter of the time to save up the money needed for this procedure and pay out of pocket. I didn't realize that my tooth had decayed into such a bad state until I started experiencing extreme pain. It took me two days of waiting in the lobby to be seen as a "walk in".

I went here as a walk-in and it was still faster than a certain other place in town. They were fast, didn't leave me waiting after the shots and were very gentle! They might be short staffed because they rarely answer or return calls.

I took my 6 year old son here today. Overall, we did have a pleasant experience. The assistant was very kind and understanding. My problem is with the way I was spoken to as a parent of a child with cavities. I was made to feel like it's my fault he has cavities in his molars. The dentist blamed it on possibly too many snacks and not enough brushing. That may be a factor but you failed to mention the other major factors in tooth decay- genetics and fluoride. You didn't take time to educate me on fluoride or how Redding is notorious for tooth decay because of the minimal amount of fluoride in the water. It's funny because his pediatrician educated us on it and they're not even dentists. Water filters even filter out fluoride. Children's toothpastes don't contain fluoride. So for the first 5 years of his life his teeth lacked in fluoride. But I tried with adding in fluoride toothpaste but it was unfortunately not enough. You also didn't ask me about any familial experiences with tooth decay. Genetics play a huge role in your teeth. I am not a negligent mother. You also didn't ask about his teeth grinding that I checked on the list. Teeth grinding weakens enamel. Weakened enamel is prone to decay. The only possibly negligent thing done on my part was not being able to have him seen in a dental office until now. The pandemic made it nearly impossible to get in. I had to wait a couple of months just for this appointment. And his fillings will probably take even longer to get. I was a dental assistant for years and saw plenty of children with cavities. It's not uncommon. We made sure to explain tips and tricks to help prevent them. The staff was great with my son, and this is about him, not me, and I will try to give it another shot.

This is about the only dental facility in Shasta County that accepts Medi Cal and they have a 2 year wait list for new patients. Despite that, when I called them they encouraged me to show up as a walk in. After a bit of a wait they saw me. Everyone was professional and took care of my issue. Will return if another issue arises.

I am so fortunate that Shasta community health dental center was able to help me last week as a walk in to take care of a a tooth that a crown had been broken off several months ago and became abscessed. I was in a lot of pain had made several attempts to fine a dental office accepting new patients. Everyone involved in working on my tooth were so pleasant and professional I couldn't find any other dental office that could have assisted me better and as quickly. I am so thankfully happy with Shasta Community Health Dental Center!

Excellent! I was a walk in. Extremely thorough exam. Better experience than any private practice I've been to. Only downside is the long wait list to become a patient. After my visit I can see why.
