Dr. Shapiro is a caring and gentle dentist who uses some of the most advanced materials and techniques to help his patients achieve the beautiful, healthy smiles they deserve. He spends his time carefully listening to the concerns of his patients, and then tailors a unique plan to help them reach their goal. Dr. Shapiros philosophy for his dental care is to make certain that he doesnt zone in on the individual broken tooth. He prefers to view the tooth as a component of the entire masticatory system: the teeth, jaws, muscles, TMJ and other supporting structures of the head and neck. By looking at the Big Picture, he can often find the underlying cause of the broken tooth and eliminate that! This will prevent other teeth from breaking in the future.
As a General Dentist, Dr. Shapiro performs all aspects of dentistry. This includes everything as basic as a simple filling, to as advanced as the surgical placement and the restoration of dental implants guided by Cone Beam Technology. While this means that most procedures are performed right here in the office, it is important to note that Dr. Shapiro evaluates each procedure carefully, on a case by case basis. If there is ever a procedure that he feels should be performed by a dental specialist, he works closely with many of them in the area, and will always make the most appropriate referral to the best person for the job.
Dr. Shapiro continues to study advanced techniques within the dental field on an ongoing basis. It would not be unusual for him to exceed the minimum number of continuing education hours taken by other dentists by 300% or more! He travels the country to learn from the Best of the Best, and strives to incorporate this knowledge in his day to day clinical practice.
Dr. Shapiro received his undergraduate degree in Laboratory Psychology (Neuropsychopharmacology) from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He then went on to complete his doctorate at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, NJ. While many dentists would go on to practice in their field at this point, Dr. Shapiro opted to continue his dental education. He successfully completed a Post-Doctoral Education Program in Advanced General Dentistry at UMDNJ, for which he received an additional Certification.
While dentistry is his passion, his family is his LIFE. He lives locally, with his wife, Cari and four young children, Morgan, Mitchell, Matthew, and Michael. He enjoys spending whatever free time he can with them.
