Dr. Richard A. Shanty graduated from the University Of Maryland, Baltimore College Of Dental Surgery, in 1991 with a DDS (Doctor Of Dental Surgery). While in dental school, Dr. Shanty completed a clerkship in the diagnosis and management of oral lesions.
Dr. Shanty has been an active member of the community since opening his practice in 1993. He has volunteered at Head Start providing oral examinations to area children, and has provided dental education to students in the local elementary schools during dental health month.
Over the years, he has been involved in various youth sports organizations in Kittanning and Ford City. He also served as president of the Ford City Basketball Boosters during the 2011-2012 season. He currently sponsors local children's athletic programs.

A BIG shout out and thank you to Dr Shanty .. I had to have some dental work done. He was so kind, patient and gentle to me as I was so anxious. I hate having anything done to my teeth except I can handle having them cleaned .. I'm so grateful to have him as my dentist .....

Thank you so very much to Dr. Shanty and his entire staff for a pleasant, pain-free, non-stressful experience! For as anxious as I was, it was a breeze of a time, and it washed all of my worries away! So thankful for them! Outstanding service, and a breath of fresh air to really understand what all I had done concerning my crown! 10/10! My grandson accompanied us - and the staff made sure to shower him in lots of attention, too!

Went in for a crown. Appreciate how patient and considerate Dr Shanty and his staff are. He always explains in detail what he is going to do. I have an issue with gagging and he always takes his time and makes sure I am comfortable.

Always excellent service. Treated professionally at all times. Appreciate the patience as I am somewhat of a gagger and Dr. Shanty always takes his time, has great patience plus explains everything he's doing so it's clear. Would highly recommend! Wish I could give more than 5 stars!

Great experience discovering issues with teeth and getting two crowns applied by Dr. Shanty. Very good chair-side manner. LOL. Explains not only the issues or problems with the teeth, but he also explains how the issues will or are being resolved throughout the process. Friendly and courteous staff from the time you enter the office. Highly recommend.

Dr. Shanty and his staff are excellent! I had a 15+ year old filling that needed replaced and it was honestly the best experience I've had going to the dentist. I was a little nervous going in, because it had been over 15 years since I needed that kind of dental work. Dr. Shanty's communication during the entire procedure was awesome. The numbing process, which is the worst part for me because I hate needles was virtually painless. I couldn't believe it. I was in and out in around 40 mins, and about 20-25 of those minutes was me waiting for the numbing agent to kick in. Dr. Shanty is the best in the business. My wife and I both highly recommend him!

The absolute Best dental experience I've ever had. When you walk into Dr. Shanty's office you are treated like family. His staff always greets you with friendly words and smiling faces! The care and compassion Dr. Shanty and his staff show his patients is out of this world. They are fast and efficient at getting you in for appointments when problems arise. Out of pocket prices are reasonable and they are excellent at dealing with insurance. I'm all around impressed with Dr. Shanty and his staff. As long as he is in business, I will be a patient!

Dr Shanty has a knack for making a nervous patient completely at ease. Procedures are explained in a way that is understandable and calming. The office offers many services and comprehensive care. I HIGHLY recommend!!!!
