I knew at a young age that I wanted to create beautiful smiles and my passion for orthodontics has led me to develop an environment that is caring, trusting and lots of fun for everyone. With office locations in Grandville, and Plainwell, I enjoy providing excellent orthodontic care to the communities of West Michigan!
I attended Hillsdale College, where I studied Biology and Chemistry. After only three years, I entered dental school at the University of Michigan where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and graduated at the top of my class. After graduation, I entered a residency in general practice at the University of North Carolina, where I received my certificate in advanced general practice. From North Carolina, I traveled to South Carolina where I entered private practice.
Although I enjoyed general dentistry, I decided to pursue the rigorous process of becoming an orthodontic specialist. I was accepted into the orthodontic residency at the University of Tennessee, one of the oldest and most established programs in the country. I then received my Masters of Dental Science (MDS) in orthodontics. My experience as a general dentist and as an orthodontic specialist gives me a unique understanding of orthodontic treatment and its relationship to general dental health.
In order to keep up with the constantly changing world of technology and advances in orthodontic care, I regularly attend training and educational seminars. I am an active member of several organizations, including:
My wife, Kate, and I are extremely excited to make our home in West Michigan. Together, we enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. In my free time, I can usually be found on a running trail or playing the piano or guitar.
Becky spends her time with her kids and attending all of their many activities. In her spare moments, she enjoys listening to music, drinking coffee (or something stronger) and planning trips for her family! She loves to laugh, explore new places and relax at the beach.
Jen is blessed to have 4 amazing children and 2 beautiful granddaughters. She loves her Bull Mastiff, Dozer. Jen is an avid reader and can always be found spending time with family or hanging out outside!
Kristal loves spending time with her family and attending her kids sporting events! For fun, she enjoys being outside in the summer- camping, kayaking, and bonfires are a few favorites. She also loves tacos.. any day, any time!
Melanie enjoys spending time with her red heeler puppy, Phoebe, walking new trails and doing agility with her. She also spends her time hanging out with friends and family, riding her horse, reading new books, watching Netflix, and traveling.

Very pleasant to work with. My daughter is always anxious about any dental or doctor appointments and she absolutely loved going here. Was referred to a different practice and searched up other orthodontist and saw this place and we chose to go with this practice. Definitely glad we did

My 6 year old daughter was referred to a different practice, but I'd heard such good things about Dr Shannon that I decided to go to his office instead. I've been SO impressed with not only their technology but their compassionate work and making kids comfortable coming in for appointments. They've been very patient with my daughter, explaining each step they're taking in her care and have done a wonderful job of putting her (and her mom) at ease. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

LOVE THEM! Dr. Shannon and his team are talented, intelligent, generous, and encouraging. I am a dental hygienist at a different office, and I have always been impressed with the quality work I see on patients from his office and the confidence they have in him and the team. I went to him as my orthodontist and got clear aligners, and I highly recommend him. He listens to the patient, explains the process well, and his positive attitude is contagious. When evaluating for ortho, he not only evaluates the alignment of the teeth, but also the relation of the jaw and bite. I went to a few different ortho offices for evaluations, and his prices are much more affordable, while the quality of the work and experience is top notch! My teeth look and feel like a million bucks, and I enjoyed the process.

Shannon Orthodontist has courtesy and the friendliest staff I have ever experienced. They make sure to service you in whatever you may need and are very informative when you have questions. I appreciate their staffs kind and compassionate hearts! Thank you for all you do in the Ortho world!

My son and I both have services done here . Friendly staff .I gave it four stars because the only negative thing I would have to say would be the hours of operation , I wish they were a little bit longer they we're open to people that work later in the afternoon and then having to grab kids out of school if one child has an appointment I have to take the other one out of school also, they close at 4:00 so the last patient they can see is 3:30. (Possible one day a week longer hours) Other than that it's a great office I would recommend it if you are able to set up an appointment without having to request any time off from work ( unfortunately I have to save my vacation time for snow days, sick days for my children and for myself) or your child gets out of school prior.

Updated: Shannon Ortho continues to be the BEST! I have been a patient of Dr. Shannon's for almost a decade. Over the years Dr. Shannon and his staff have answered all of my questions and helped me maintain a perfect smile. Dr. Shannon goes above and beyond to make sure his patients are well taken care of. At Shannon Ortho they truly care about their patients. Several of my family members now go to Shannon Ortho. We wouldn't go anywhere else. Shannon Ortho is the best! The staff is friendly and Dr. Shannon is fabulous. His office has a family atmosphere. I needed braces as an adult and Dr. Shannon and his team put me at ease. The whole process from start to finish went great. My son is now a patient there. We love Dr. Shannon and his team. I highly recommend Shannon Ortho.

Edit: The office manager contacted me and is helping to resolve the situation. Everyone makes mistakes :/ Had a good experience several years ago when my son needed a spacer and then a retainer. Some complications with insurance but when isn't there. Time now for braces. Tech took some scans, then we met with the "Treatment coordinator" who began by asking my 12 year old son whether he preferred invisalign or braces, felt immediately like a sales pitch. I responded by asking for Dr Shannon's recommendations. She then left to talk to him I guess, but he never examined my son to my knowledge. She came back, we looked at the scans, and she explained the recommendations. Made sense to me so we moved on to the financials. Told her I would be splitting the cost with my son's father and that we would both likely be paying in full from separate HSA accounts, i just needed to confirm with him. Fine, fine. Set up next appointment and in the meantime received an email from the "financial planner" with payment options. I had since confirmed with dad he would also be paying in full up front, and so indicated that in my response (dad is cc'd). She replied that she would send us contracts. Did not mention said contract would need to be signed before beginning treatment. Which is fine, but she never sent the contracts or reached out for payment. So we show up for the appointment today and she comes out to the waiting room and asks for dad, who has never been there nor emailed/called. For some reason she thought he was coming to sign a contract accepting full liability for payment. I tried to explain that we wanted to pay in full before treatment. She said that she would put my name on the contract instead and insisted that there couldn't be two contracts because "one person might not pay theirs" which doesn't make sense because I could sign for the whole amount and still not pay it. The more I tried to explain and ask questions, the more double speak and nonsense she spouted. In desperation, I said I would like to reschedule the appointment and not start treatment until after paying. Still need contract to agree to treatment. Fine, totally understandable. Asked financial planner how she would collect payment and said dad could call her and she would set up a payment plan with him. Walked out because there was no one else there that could help. Writing this review because there's no way to contact anyone at the office except the front desk.
