Dr. Bana Ball is more than just a board-certified pediatric dentist. In fact, she is a mother of two young children, Nikou and Nila. She loves spending time with her little ones and her husband, Mark, a urologic oncologist at the NIH. Dr. Ball is a comedy enthusiast, a crossword and jigsaw puzzle fan, an adventure traveler, a nature lover, and an aspiring yogi.
Dr. Ball completed her residency training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Maryland, serving as Chief Resident during her final year. As part of Dr. Balls residency training, she co-wrote the Guidelines on Restorative Dentistry for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, based on an extensive evidence-based review of the dental literature, giving her unparalleled expertise in dental materials.
After attending Centre College on a full academic scholarship and graduating summa cum laude, she received her dental degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, graduating at the top of her class. She worked as a general dentist for a few years after dental school, and it was during this time that she realized her passion for working with children. Returning to school for specialty training in pediatric dentistry became an easy choice, and she hasnt looked back since. Dr. Ball considers it an honor and a privilege to be entrusted with caring for children.
When you and your child walk through our doors, you will be greeted with enthusiasm and enter a child-friendly, yet calm environment. We have chosen a cool and soothing color scheme and decorated our family lounge with books and a few toys. If it weren't for COVID, the family lounge would contain even more fun items, but we are having to limit the number of things available. You understand.
First visits are tailored to your child 's age and level of expected cooperation, with many options for toothpaste flavors. We don 't have a 'one size fits all' approach, and we work with each family to get the most out of your child 's visit.

Love! I brought my baby for a FIRST dental check and Dr. Ball and her team were great. It's an all digital office, and very baby, kid, and parent friendly. I believe in trusting my baby's dental care to a specialist. Just a lot of thought and care all throughout the office, and Dr. Ball is AMAZING! She really took the time to give us good information and I came away with the tools to take care of my baby's teeth!

What a wonderful kids dental office! We were nervous to switch form our previous office due to insurance changing but this place was absolutely amazing. Wonderful, welcoming and friendly staff, clean facility. My 6 year old daughter loved her visit!

Dr Bana Ball is really amazing. She knew how to deal with my daughter's fear by creating a calm and trusting environment. She was incredibly sweet and thoughtful to assist my daughter in her two teeth extraction. Her office is beautiful and prepared to receive children. Dr Bana Ball's employees are also super attentive and caring. Our experience was really surprising. I thought tooth extraction would be traumatic but my daughter was reassured by Dr Bana Ball's excellent work. I highly recommend her. She is an incredible professional!!!

I just visited the office recently for the first time with my daughter and I absolutely loved it. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and patient. The office was super clean, updated and let's not forget how amazing the dentist was. Im really so happy I found this dental office.

Shady Grove Pediatric has the sweetest and best people, from the receptionnist all the way to the doctor. They also take great care of our princess, and are open to questions and give us great advice on how to care for our little ones teeth. Highly recommend this place for your children

Dr. Ball and her team were so kind and professional! I brought my two year old in after she lost her top front tooth during a fall and was nervous how she would react to the exam. She was so comfortable from the moment we walked in and had the best experience. We plan to return and bring our older daughter back for regular care. Highly recommend Shady Grove Pediatric Dentistry!

My 2 year old had his first ever dental visit with Dr. Ball. Pediatrician visits are usually VERY hard for us, so I fully expected a similar experience. Though my toddler walked in screaming, but immediately began to calm down upon entering. The visit only got better from there! He laid contently in the chair and took immediately to Dr. Ball's warm and friendly personality. Few tears were shed and my little guy left with a smile on his face! ALL of Shady Grove Pediatric Dentistry staff worked together to make it a great experience for my child. I highly recommend Dr. Ball for any parent looking for a great experience for their child.

Bana Ball is AMAZING!!! I'm a dentist myself but I don't like doing major dental work on my own children. Dr. Ball was the first person I called when one of my children needed invasive dental treatment, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. She is happy to have parents in the room and my child LOVES going to see her. In addition to the confidence I have in her dental skills, Dr.Ball's office is ADORABLE! Fantastic experience with both kids, no tears and no stress. The whole team is amazing. The office is very child friendly and this fostered a sense of happiness from the moment we walked in. The health guidance they give is very helpful, evidence based and informative. I would recommend this office 100 times over. Dr Ball is really wonderful. Best dentist experience ever!

Wow! That's what I have to say about Dr. Ball and her team after several visits with my sensitive 6 year old and one visit for our toddler. Dr. Ball and her team have really gone the extra mile to work with my daughter - providing excellent care and treatment even though she has not been an easy patient (lots of sensitivities and minor trauma from previous dental experience at another local provider ). My daughter and I really appreciate how gentle, communicative, and empowering Dr. Ball and team are. We love Krista at the front desk and now we've met Hygienist Kayla, who also did such a lovely job working with my daughter. We are starting to look forward to going to the dentist now and so hopeful to build a better experience for our toddler.

We requested to see us at a short notice and Dr. Ball with her team were very kind to make it work. It was our toddler's first visit to the dentistry and the experience was amazing. The staff was warm and welcoming that immediately reduced the fear and anxiety for both of us. Dr. Ball took the time to make sure that my child is comfortable and cooperative. Overall the dentistry experience, office environment and team was so positive that our child did not want to leave :) . We are so happy we are going to be your customers for the years to come! COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!!! As soon as we walked in we felt welcomed. Dr.Ball and her team are absolutely phenomenal!They are extremely kind, patient, and quick.My boys were extremely nervous going back to the dentist, after a post-traumatic experience at a different place. The hygienist worked her magic with my 5 yr old and was able to keep him calm while singing him songs, I was completely blown away with how safe and calm he felt. Dr.Ball recommended the best dental treatment for my boys, and treated them as If they were her own. I am so grateful to have found this place! Dr.Ball, I cannot thank you enough for restoring my children's trust in a dental setting.

CHILD FRIENDLY! CLEAN! AMAZING STAFF AND DOCTOR! I am so amazed by this office. They knew exactly how to care for my daughter at her visit and I love their method they use for young children when Cleaning teeth. I was educated on many things and given advice that I needed. From the moment you walk into the waiting room, I felt so at ease. I would definitely give this office more than 5 stars if I could. Great Job to everyone at Shady Grove Pediatric Dentistry!

Wonderful! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. I loved the way they engaged with my son. He was given so many choices for is care. What flavors? What color sun glasses? What flavor sugar free lollipop? Even a prize at the end! The doctor explained everything to me and took her time. We will definitely be back and recommending to all our friends and family.
