At age seven, Dr. Im immigrated to the U.S. from Seoul, Korea with his family. He grew up in Fresno, CA and after completing Bullard High School with high honors, he entered undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCLA, he studied human and animal physiology and in 1998 received a B.S. in Biology. He continued his education at Cal Poly Pomona and finished a two year post-graduate program in Nutrition.
In 2002, Dr. Im began his journey in the field of dentistry when he was admitted into the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry (UCSF). During his studies at the university, he was quickly recognized by his peers and faculty for his skills and dedication to the field. Impressed with the new techniques developed for saving teeth and technological advances in implants, Dr. Im became increasingly drawn to the field of periodontics. In 2006, after graduating from dental school at the top of his class, he gained admission toUCSF Periodontal Residency - a specialty program focusing on advanced surgical interventions for treatment of periodontal disease, cosmetic tissue reshaping, and replacement of missing teeth with implants. During the residency, Dr. Im was recognized for his leadership and teamwork and was elected chief resident two years in a row.
Dr. Im received a Masters degree in Cranial and Facial Sciences from UCSF upon completion of the periodontal residency in 2009. His research was focused on halitosis, and was published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Dr. Im completed anesthesia training at the UCSF Ambulatory Center and is certified in IV conscious sedation and oral conscious sedation.
A Los Angeles native, Carmina is a biology major at San Francisco State University, where she will be graduating in December. She has been working in dental offices for over 3 years and if you've ever called us you may well have heard her friendly voice. Her guilty pleasures are SF Mission-style burritos and good coffee. In her spare time she loves running, going to the movies, and finding great new spots to eat. Carmina helps us keep everything running smoothly here at SF Implants and Perio, and the whole team is grateful for her hard work.
From Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Molly attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where she graduated with a BS in Biochemistry in 2007. She moved to San Francisco in 2011, looking for new opportunities and gentler winters. As a nature lover, Molly found much to love in the Bay Area, frequently volunteering at local animal rescues and as a hawk migration bander with the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory. She was accepted to the Dental Assisting program while attending College of Alameda and began interning with Dr. Im before graduating in 2016. Molly joined the SF Implants and Perio team that same year, first assisting Dr. Gunstream and then taking over as Office Manager. In her spare time Molly can be found camping, hiking, and cheering on the SF Giants.
Jenny is a Surgical Assistant here at SF Implants and Perio. She has a kind and uplifting spirit, and is always ready to help others with her expert touch and trademark smile. She has three beautiful children, a wonderful husband, and loves to cook and dance in her spare time. Jenny has been working in dentistry since 1993, and 25 years later she is more passionate about her work than ever.
From Fresno, California, Ben is a childhood friend of Dr. Im who was already working for SF Implants and Perio, managing its social media, advertising and website for the last few years. Ben's interest in dentistry grew while doing the online work, and when there was an opening in the office for a new Dental Assistant he jumped at the opportunity. Ben has a gentle, calming way with people, and he loves putting patients at ease in what can frequently be a daunting experience. He is currently taking the SF State Dental Assisting course and will become a Certified Dental Assistant this year.
With over 30 years of dentistry under her belt, SF Native Jenny Jee is our veteran Dental Hygienist at SF Implants and Perio. An expert at scaling and root planing, she loves helping patients achieve their happiest, healthiest smiles via regular maintenance and prevention. She has worked with many excellent dentists over the years, and this experience has given her a remarkable finesse for putting even the most nervous patients at ease. She loves traveling, cooking, and hosting her beloved family's holiday parties. She has worked alongside Dr. Mukai and Dr. Im for many years and has been a key part of the SF Implants and Perio team from day one.
Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Connie was always fascinated by the art in dentistry, but the idea of pursuing a career in the field did not crystallize until her 4th year of undergrad at University of California, Santa Cruz. She landed an internship at a dental office where, under the tutelage of a wonderful hygienist, she was inspired to become one herself. Connie received her degree in Dental Hygiene at Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, CA, where she graduated with high honors. Now she proudly serves the Bay Area as a hygienist at SF Implants and Perio.

I've been under Dr. Im's care for almost 10 years and have had a lot of work done in my mouth because of advanced periodontal disease. I can't say enough good things about him and the quality of his work! I would recommend him to anyone who needs periodontal care. He is a dedicated professional who truly cares about his patients.

I've been going to Dr. Im for several years and have been very pleased with my treatment there. He is very friendly, knowledgeable and patient, and takes the time to explain the available options for various issues. The hygienist Connie is also wonderful, friendly, and efficient. And the staff always makes me feel right at home. I would highly recommend this office for anyone with periodontal needs.

My time at SF Implants and Perio was fantastic! Dr.Terry Im is very knowledgeable, patient, and caring for his patients. The rest of the staff is also very accommodating and super friendly. It was a wonderful experience!

I love these folks! I have had much periodontal and implant surgery over the years from four dentists. (They keep deciding that they need to spend time with their families or retire!) The folks at SF Implants & Perio are wonderful: competent, kind, caring and accommodating, especially during the pandemic. As you may have guessed, I am among the elders who felt particularly vulnerable (perhaps more than was necessary, given that SF's statistics were better than the rest of the state). Whenever I felt the need to cancel or reschedule, I felt respected, cared for and accommodated. Sadly, I have had more than my share of surgery: Dr. Im is as kind and competent a practitioner as I have had. If you are in need of this dental specialty, feel confident that you have found the folks you are looking for.

I know my implants are challenging and with your skill and professionalism I feel completely safe with you in charge. I am undergoing three implants with SF Implants and Perio. After a serious bout of anxiety on my part, Dr. Im and his incredibly competent and comforting team prepared the first bone graft with no residual pain requiring even tylenol. I can't say I am looking forward to the next steps in the procedures, but I am not dreading them, either.

Over 5 years ago I was in need of some extensive periodontal care. I interviewed 3-4 different dentists, but was not satisfied. A friend referred me to Dr. Terry Im. I knew immediately that he was who I had been looking for. He and his team performed the necessary periodontal surgery with skill and care to my complete satisfaction. He listened to my concerns and responded. Subsequently he and his team have taken care of my dental needs. Recently I had a minor surgery to repair some damage. Again he was superb. In short I am extremely satisfied with his professionalism and his humane care. I recommend him to all my family and friends without reservation.

I have been seeing Dr. Terry Im for almost 5 years. Usually you either have teeth problems or gum issues. Being in the gum issues camp, I am truly appreciative of Dr. Im's care and his staff's attention. I've had a few gum surgeries and ongoing regular cleanings with this office. The customer service from everyone in the office has always been wonderful and I highly recommend Dr. Terry Im.
