On March 11, 2002, we opened the doors of Seymour Family Dentistry (SFD) to serve the dental needs of the people of Seymour and surrounding communities.I take pride in creating smiles for a lifetime for you and your family. SFD's commitment to community also allows me to enjoy the best part of my job, which is participating inevents such as Kids Fest, Mouthguard Mania, and Dental Health Month elementary school presentations.After graduating with distinction from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1994, I served honorably in the US Navy for nearly ten years. I completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA in 1995. As a LCDR, I served as Division Officer aboard USS America (CV-66) and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), proudly earning the Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards).
From 2001 to 2008, I was an Associate Professor of Operative Dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry. I was blessed to have mentored hundreds of future dentists in both the pre-clinical technique lab and on the clinical floor.
In the fall, I can be found with family, friends,my wife and two kids at IU football games in Bloomington. I enjoy tailgating, cooking my 'world famous' chili, and dominating at corn hole. Lastly, I have a strong faith that IU will regain its prominence in basketball. GO IU!!!
Born and raised in Louisville KY, I attended St. Xavier High School, and went to Indiana University in Bloomington. Being pre-med/pre-dent, majoring in biology was a natural choice, with minors in animal behavior and history, my favorite subject. I went to dental school at Louisville and completed a General Practice Residency at Kentucky.
Going into my senior year at IU, I decided to pursue a career in dentistry, and have never looked back. Medicine was always a favored career for me. However, I also wanted a profession that allowed me to use my hands on a regular basis and see a variety of patients. Thus, General Dentistry was an ideal career for me.
Dentistry is a large part of who I am, but there is more than just that. I thoroughly enjoy reading, primarily non-fiction books, but do enjoy a fiction from time to time. My other hobbies are enjoying live music and being outdoors. One other thing I do enjoy, though not always, is playing golf.

The staff here are always on point, knowledgeable and patient centric. Dr. Thurman is always precise and somehow maintains an engaging conversation to keep my mind off of what's happening in the moment. The music Playlist being pumped throughout the office is always unique, and adds to the overall ambience. Go here!!

I have been coming to this office since I can remember! I recently had my teeth cleaned and they had a news paper clipping of when the business I work for had their ribbon cutting! This office not only cares for you as a patient but they make sure to count you as one of their family members! 100% recommend if you are looking for a new dentist!

The staff is always very friendly. They take the time to explain things and talk you through each step of the procedures every time. They genuinely care about your dental health. I've been a patient of theirs for roughly 13 years now. Dr. Mansfield and Dr. Thurman are great.

I have spent a lot of time over the years in a dentist chair. I love Dr Mansfield and his entire staff. It's a joy to visit you twice a year. Keep up the good work.

The staff is always very nice. Rhonda is amazing! I am worse than a child getting me teeth cleaned and she has the patience of a saint! Both docs are absolutely amazing, great bedside manner, very nice. I moved and still drive 40 minutes to continue going here because they are so great to me! Would highly recommend this practice!

Everyone is so nice and helpful everytime you go in for dental work. They make sure to explain what they are doing and make sure you know how much things are going to cost before they do anything so there are no surprise charges.

When I went to Seymour Dentistry in November 2021 I was having alot of problems and pain. They were friendly and made me feel comfortable and relaxed. The staff was very knowledgeable and calmly explain what was going to happen. Dr Thurman was very gentle . The procedure was painless. Afterwards, the follow up instructions were explained. I lefted feeling confident and reassured. After a few days I had no problems and was ready to return. Thanks to all the staff and Dr. Thurman for all the help!!! I have returned with full confidence !!

My daughter had to have a tooth pulled and was very scared. While in the back she started to panic and asked for me repeatedly, and because of the NO PARENTS with there kid(s) in the back rule. She was pretty much ignored. When she came out the the waiting room she was balling. I didnt know what happened till the next day. We will NEVER go back.
