Dr. Sergio Berkstein completed his certificate in Periodontics at the University of Missouri , Kansas City in 1986. Dr Berkstein also holds his DDS degree and a Masters in Science from the same institution.
After completing his specialized training in Periodontics, Dr. Berkstein remained at the University where he served as an Assistant Professor in the department of Periodontology until 1990. During his tenure at the University, Dr. Berkstein participated and helped to run the UMKC dental outreach program, which provided free dental services for underprivileged people in Venezuela, South America. In 1991 he moved to California to pursue a career in private practice and established his office in La Mesa , California where he limits his practice to Periodontics and dental implants. With 25 years of experience in the field of Periodontics, Dr. Berkstein has just recently built a state of the art facility to provide his patients with the most comfortable and technologically advanced care. Dr. Berkstein has received the Top Dentist award by San Diego Magazine for the last five years and prides himself on his reputations and the trust that his colleges demonstrate by choosing him for their patients care.
Dr. Berkstein has been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Periodontology and is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Diego County Dental Society and the American Academy of Periodontology.

Jessicais our office manager; she joined our practice in 2020 with over 20 years in the dental field and 16 years of office management experience. She studied medical billing and coding and office administration. Jessica oversees the entire office including billing and treatment planning. She takes pride in helping our patients with any questions they may have regarding their treatment plan, insurance benefits or financial needs.
Lindsey, our office receptionist, is the first person you will see upon entering our office. She wears many hats in both the front office and back. She is extremely knowledgeable in many aspects of dental insurance and treatment coordinating. Her responsibilities include obtaining referrals, getting insurance benefit information, and coordinating care with other dental professionals. Lindsey loves interacting with patients and is very helpful and resourceful. When not working in the office she loves spending time around San Diego with her boyfriend and their Blue Heeler, Rigby.
Cynthia, our dental assistant, is truly dedicated to giving our patients the best possible experience. She has been working as a dental assistant since 2012 and is truly a caretaker at heart with an upbeat personality. With a husband and daughter at home to take care of, her caring nature extends to the patients of our office as well. She loves going to Disneyland with her family and adventuring around San Diego sharing memorable experiences with her daughter, Melody.
Cassandra, our dental assistant, has been in the dental field since 2014. She is devoted to providing the best care to her patients. When you visit our office, you will probably recognize her by her incredible laugh, and a smile you can see even under a face mask. After work, she loves to spend time with her husband and new baby boy, Ezra.
